I like to compare Tate Forcier to Colt McCoy. They are very similar. Both have very accurate arms, both can run very well, and they had similar stats their freshmen years. The only difference is that colt had a little more experience his freshmen year because he redshirted the year before. I cant wait to see what tate can do in the next three years.
@kidzbopsux notice how jerrod johnson threw for 342 yds and 4touchdowns against texas. he also ran for 97 yds. colt mccoy threw for 304 yds and 4 touchdowns. colt ran for 175 yds and had 1 rushing touchdown. in total offense, colt beat johnson's total offense of 435 yards and 4 touchdowns with 479 yards and 5 touchdowns! impressive colt, but he went up against the 107th best defense in the nation. johnson went up against the 3rd best!
@kidzbopsux and yes throughout the whole year, johnson had 38 combined rushing and passing touchdowns compared to colt's 35.....despite a&m's defense johnson was the better quarterback. this is because all of the games a&m lost last year was because of their defense. and also, yes i have seen tons of highl;ight videos of johnson!
@kidzbopsux there are tons of highlights of jerrod johnson. nobody wants to see them because they dont want to accept the fact that jerrod is actually more talented than colt mccoy. did you even read the comments i left below? they are very true, and you know what, the truth hurts.
Re-read my comment, bro. I said MINUS the over-inflated ego. I know about his Fridays visits to kids hospitals, and his missionary work in S. America.
Read my post again, dangerdog... a wonderful athlete MINUS (without) the over-inflated ego... The most grounded, down-to -earth QB in the NCAA. He and Shipley's dad ar alums from Abilene Christian, for God's sake (pun not intended). You misread my compliment to my favorite Texas QB since Applewhite...
You werent even in the conversation, as I recall, and only a true DUMBASS judges intelligence when he's never met the person hes slammin. And how about some proper grammar there, since you are so obviously on a much higher level of intelligence than the rest of us?
Kyledaboyd3: Are you fucking kidding me!? Let's look at all the good teams he's faced: Mizzou,Tech,Ou,Ok St, Ohio St. He's done well in every one of those games. Yeah and in the OU game he had 277 yds and 1 TD ( should have had 2 because Roy Miller has no hands.) How is OU not a good team too?
This kids could be something really special if he gets drafted into a West Coast Offensive style of play. -Colt's composure and footwork (steps) would flourish amazingly in a WCO scheme.
Very average arm. The ball seems to float on him a good bit. It takes a while to get there. I don't see that much zip on his passes. He looks very slight. He needs to add more upperbody mass to see it he can put a bit more mustard in those passes.
@tastybrownies I never said that arm strength was everything, just that McCoy lacks arm strength. It's obvious. Anyone can see that. And his accuracy is an illusion. He has a high completion % because he dinked and dunked the majority of the time. Any QB can have a high completion % when he's throwing 5-10 yard passes the whole game.
@sevenfan7 short passes are part of our spread offense which is a very effective scheme. why do u think he has 45 wins under his belt. dont u know football?
@kidzbopsux David Greene, Timmy Chang and Graham Harrell won a bunch of games too. Where are they now? Having a below average arm, and dinking and dunking short passes in a spread offense in college doesn't mean a QB is good.
@InSouthGA were any of those 3 back2back heisman finalists. did any of those 3 have mccoy's composure. could any of those qbs perform a last minute scoring drive in a major game. (yes, harrell did lead one against texas, everybody knows)
and if you want to talk about below average arm strength and often throwing short passes, ever heard of joe montana. but mccoy and montana share a similar quality of making plays in crucial moments, and often overcoming late 4th qtr deficits.
@kidzbopsux LOL The majority of the recent Heisman winners & candidates are products of over inflated stats. The Heisman is not a barometer success or even being a good QB. In fact, most recent Heisman winners have gone on to become busts or at best mediocre. Are you really comparing McCoy to Montana? Haha A little premature don't you think? McCoy is a product of the UT's spread. He lacks elite skills from physical to intangibles. He could still become a good pro QB but it remains to be seen.
@InSouthGA i was not comparing mccoy to montana, i was just saying that qbs with below average arm strength do have potential. montana's arm strength was not impressive and he was picked in the 3rd round.
i was comparing mccoy to montana before their pro careers began. along those lines, they were both pretty similar. LOL
hey screw you haters if you watch Colt the kids is a atlete and has a love 4 the game...
Texas is # 1 because the kid is a leader he is up and down the sideline and helping everyone out and thats why they beat 2 national contenders in a row by a nice margin
oh ya and against missoui he had 3 incompletes the dude is a damn beast and is a future heismen.
All you idiots who are saying start Chiles are insane!! Colt is and has been one of hte best qb's in college football since he started, he was hurt his soph year, but then again he had the weakest line UT has ever had, and he has made some rookie mistakes but look at his freshman numbers... better than anyone else, shit his freshman year his numbers were better than troy smiths?? This year he is going to show everyone why he is top three qb in the nation.. Mark my words...
ive would have never thought that a kid from jim ned could go on and be as great as this, but that just shows you never underestimate the talent of a small school player, now if only someone would give tyler etheridge a shot (6man football allstar, broke Tex Tech Qb Harrels texas alltime passing record for yards and touchdowns and broke former florida gators chris leak's record for passing yards and touchdowns)
one great thing about this video is that it shows off the rest of the Longhorn team just as much as Colt... there's some great cathces and YAC's in this
@warrior77RC20 lol...Colt is quicker, faster, a better runner, can throw on the run, has a quicker release, more accurate, better a reading defenses, etc. Your 5 star has not been impressive at all.
Texas loses more games without McCoy in 2007. Don't be that dumbass. When Colt scrambles out of pocket, he's faster than the other guys who are faster.....ask many.
Colts a great college qb, no doubt about it but no way is he NFL material...floats too many passes (weak arm), throws to spots on the field (telegraphs his throws). in the NFL, you have to be able to throw into tight spots, not just throw it up in the air and left the receiver run under it. you also have to question his toughness (see his sideline wince vs K-State 2006).
love the guy, absolutely think he's a great college QB, but not NFL starter material...hopefully Im wrong...
Hookem, I must respectfully disagree that we should start Chiles over McCoy. Colt's gonna be a dark horse Heisman candidate. he had a bad season and he still went over 3300 yds and 22 TDs. if he just tucks the ball away and runs during some of those scrambles (when he threw the majority of his int.), I think he'll be in New York at the end of the season.
McCoy will break every record on the 40.Chiles is 205 at best, Vince was 240 when he left. I think Chiles a RB and need to redshirt and get hit alot as a tailback. Chiles has nowhere near the fear in opponents as Vince did , even when Young was a frosh or soph. JUST MY OPINION, Chiles is a RB.
He has repeatedly made HUGE mistakes that have costs us WAY too many games. We have talent. But, we have no leader at QB. If it weren't for Colt, we would've beat A&M the last 2 years... and K-State the last 2 years for. No question about it.
i think colt McCoy could be the next vrady or manning. he has dead on accuracy and thats mostly what these NFL teams need.plus he can run and scramble out of the pocket when the o line screws him.well see what happens after 3 more years
this is an amazing video i was at the texas tech game where they came back to win it was AMAZING! and i was at the baylor game when he broke the record AMAZING as well HOOK EM'!
Pride of Buffalo Gap, Major with an arm, more quicks and good knees at this point and to think you'd have to go Abilene to find a DQ from schoolboy days.
Colt was a great qb his first year. Without injury he would have had better end of year stats. I don't mean to rag on him, but a lot of his passes are softer (admitted he has a lot of finesse) and sometimes jump balls. I'll also say he has some of the best wrs in the nation. So, for the upcoming season, I'd like to see him put a bit more zip on the ball, as well as accuracy. I think if he does that (and grows a bit, as I've read he has gained weight and muscle) he'll remain one of the best qbs
Thank goodness Sweed is coming back. Too bad we have had four arrests of our defence this summer. Two DUI's and two robbery's, one with a deadly weapon...fuck. What is the deal? Ramonce Taylor, Tarrell Brown, Henry Melton, Sergio Kindel and many others in the past couple of years. You see what happens when you dont pay professional caliber players?
He's had accuracy down since highschool. Without the injury, he would have the record for TD's thrown by a freshman. It is a new season, he has been training with the exceptional Texas staff all spring and summer, he's stronger...that zip will be there.
