  • ¡Qué emocionante!

  • Che suono puro, senza "effetti" ... che bellezza :-))))

  • Bravo. Siepi's voice always evoked strong emotions and left me mesmerized. For me, he had the bass voice that I most wanted to hear.

  • Oh ... He feels like Philippo II, 15 years later of the other video around here!! GREAT!

  • Der echte RE, leidend und einsam.

  • Ragazzi, IL RE CI HA LASCIATO....... Era,è e sarà il basso piu completto di tutti.

  • Il Maestro Siepi resterà per sempre nella storia dei bassi più grandi mai esistiti! ricordiamolo per la sua scomparsa il giorno 5 luglio 2010.

  • Siepi died September 5, 2010 here in Atlanta. What a great loss. He was a wonderful singer and friend to us here. I often saw him at musical events here. He and his wife had two children, a daughter and son

  • @semiramide1945 he died in september of 2010???? : ) can you explaine us in what whey is that possible? you mean july 5....RIP TO THIS GREAT PERSON OF ART

  • @alexninko you are correct of course July 5th- Not sure why I typed in September, but thank you for pointing out the mistake. There is a memorial service to him this Sunday afternoon that I'll be attending where the family has invited friends and fans to share memories of him. It should be sad, yet happy also as he touched many lives- Mine among them when I used to see and hear him in operas-

  • Hoy se nos ha ido. Descanse en paz, maestro.

  • RIP

  • Thank you for putting this available, What a great ARTIST, and look at that conductor, the REAL THING, with lots respect to VERDI, not this young buffiones thinking they know the repertoire or style. HERE FOR YOUNG SINGERS< LEARN from great artists and don't listen to those voice teachers that NEVER sang.

  • Quel artiste! Quelle noblesse! Merci! Mille grazie!

  • ça veut dire quoi, noblesse?

  • I wonder what mr siepi is doing these days

  • I think this one is the best of his many recordings of this aria. Bravo!

  • This is a masterful performance - in every aspect of musicianship and vocal technic - I wish every young singer could see it...once a day!

  • excuse me, beautiful tone.

  • Cesare siepi is the best bass of history. His voice is so elegant and he have a beautiful.

  • I'm agree with you... the best of history,,,no doubts about it... elegance, beautiness, incredible technic, he had it all... Does anyone knows what's about his life? where he lives?...

  • To the best of my knowledge, he's married to a ballerina from the Met and they have two children. I'm not sure where he lives, perhaps dividing his time between Italy and Switzerland.

  • Thanks for your information, Vilabreze!!

  • Actually Mr. Siepi lives in Georgia, north of Atlanta with his wife and daughter.

May he be granted long life, wellbeing and happiness....He has given us soooo much!

  • @sprichbeeke Really? I didn't know he lives in the US? You're kidding right? Must be dead years ago!

  • @uglymoon78 ...no, not kidding...Sgr. Siepi is alive (87years) ,hopefully well and living in the USA

  • @sprichbeeke Thanks for the info! I'm so glad. Lisa Della Casa (visit my ldcfanclub on fb) is 91! Two greats who sang together often in DON GIOVANNI.

  • Wonderful to see a mature singer. I believe his age actually enhanced his performance and gave the aria exactly what it needed. "She never loved me" can be stated by having been heartbroken and age gives a truthfullness that youth cannot know. Pain with such style is Verdi at it's finest.

  • @sngngsolo Wow dude this came from your heart. I can also say that "she never loved me". She never did.

  • An amazing rendition. When you consider that

Siepi was only 27 when he made his debut at

the Met in this role, it's wonderful to see

him at roughly the same age as the real King

Philip of Spain during the difficulties with

Don Carlos. The performance is beautifully

introspective and the singing is a marvel of

sensitivity. Lovely phrasing and the voice

is still gorgeous. He conveys the loneliness

and pain of the king with such grace that for me, his remains the definitive portrayal.

  • what breath control and such beautiful tone and expressive singing.
