Siepi died September 5, 2010 here in Atlanta. What a great loss. He was a wonderful singer and friend to us here. I often saw him at musical events here. He and his wife had two children, a daughter and son
@semiramide1945 he died in september of 2010???? : ) can you explaine us in what whey is that possible? you mean july 5....RIP TO THIS GREAT PERSON OF ART
@alexninko you are correct of course July 5th- Not sure why I typed in September, but thank you for pointing out the mistake. There is a memorial service to him this Sunday afternoon that I'll be attending where the family has invited friends and fans to share memories of him. It should be sad, yet happy also as he touched many lives- Mine among them when I used to see and hear him in operas-
Thank you for putting this available, What a great ARTIST, and look at that conductor, the REAL THING, with lots respect to VERDI, not this young buffiones thinking they know the repertoire or style. HERE FOR YOUNG SINGERS< LEARN from great artists and don't listen to those voice teachers that NEVER sang.
Sono d'accordo! La voce risuona come uno strumento, con un'ampiezza e una profondità che anche i più famosi bassi di oggi si sognano (anche se qualcuno cerca, invano, di imitarlo...)
I'm agree with you... the best of history,,,no doubts about it... elegance, beautiness, incredible technic, he had it all... Does anyone knows what's about his life? where he lives?...
To the best of my knowledge, he's married to a ballerina from the Met and they have two children. I'm not sure where he lives, perhaps dividing his time between Italy and Switzerland.
Wonderful to see a mature singer. I believe his age actually enhanced his performance and gave the aria exactly what it needed. "She never loved me" can be stated by having been heartbroken and age gives a truthfullness that youth cannot know. Pain with such style is Verdi at it's finest.
Здорово!А лет-то ему немало!

Bravo. Siepi's voice always evoked strong emotions and left me mesmerized. For me, he had the bass voice that I most wanted to hear.

An amazing rendition. When you consider that
Siepi was only 27 when he made his debut at
the Met in this role, it's wonderful to see
him at roughly the same age as the real King
Philip of Spain during the difficulties with
Don Carlos. The performance is beautifully
introspective and the singing is a marvel of
sensitivity. Lovely phrasing and the voice
is still gorgeous. He conveys the loneliness
and pain of the king with such grace that for me, his remains the definitive portrayal.
