During the making of the movie, the crew then went to the sea bed and searched almost everywhere for the little car after making this scene, but it was never to be found, in any future herbie movies, it is not the original herbie.

I was a little confused but, what did Herbie do wrong that he was thrown in the sea? I wonder if it was because, he caused things to get damaged in the kitchen or he injured that chef in the kitchen who accidentally smacked Captain Blythe in the face with the cake or if it was because Captain Blythe didn't like getting smacked in the face with force by the cake from the chef because of Herbie.

I agree, it is sad. Maybe the sea men and Captain Blythe understood him but, they didn't care what he was saying or the sea men couldn't let him go without Captain Blythe's permission. That's true that, Herbie is probably calling help from Jim since he is Herbie's owner. Or, maybe he's calling help from Paco, Pete, and D.J. since they're all in Rio De Janero together. (He can also be calling help from Tennessee Steinmetz, Mrs. Steinmetz, and Willoby Whitfield since they're his friends).

Actually, I might be wrong but, Jim probably isn't abandoning Herbie since on "Herbie Rides Again" Herbie was staying with Mrs. Steinmetz who is the aunt of Tennessee Steinmetz who was friends with Jim and Herbie (Tennessee sat in the back seat of Herbie during the race on "The Love Bug") and here on "Herbie Goes Bananas", Herbie was under the care of Pete Stancheck who is the nephew of Jim where Jim gave Herbie to Pete to star in a race as Pete's friend D.J. mentioned in the beginning.

I think that I remember reading that the dumped Herbie didn't even have a motor, instead it had 2 eletrical motors to make the rear wheels spin.
