I saw Troy playing on Kalakawa Ave back in January '08....It didn't take me long to fish some cash out of my pocket for his CD....I still listen to him almost every day. What an incredible performer.
Aloha... mahalo for posting this video...I am from Sydney-Australia and cause of this video I met him along Kalakaua Ave when I was there. ...Bravo Bro...
Just doing some hawaiian instrumental jams while my Daughters take a break. Check out "tntmusic2729" there's 5 video's of my Daughter's singing at different performance's.
Howzit Troy... my boy Mika is the one who wrote to you on my account... I told him you responded & he was stoked! Braddah, he's really inspired to play & seeing you on YouTube gives him motivation to learn the skill... Mahalo! When he goes over to Oahu to visit his uncle, I'll make sure to call you to give him your mana'o. Side note... me & my wife consider your time w/ braddah Ernie & The Ka'au Crater Boys as Epic... PLAY ON, HAWAIIAN! Aloha ~ Dain
Troy, It would be great to see some more videos of your performances...You've got countless fans like myself that would really enjoy it...We miss you!! Looking forward to the new album.
Mahalo, and good luck to both you and your daughters!!!
When I saw Troy playing while on vacation, he was doing the Hotel California solo, and it grabbed me so hard, I RAN 3 blocks back to my room to get my camera, and caught this moment. Like some posts said, I had no idea I was witnessing a legend, He was doing more on 4 strings, than I'll ever manage on 6. It's great seeing Troy get all these well deserved props. I have a request Troy. Upload a vid of you doing Hotel California? I couldn't run fast enough to catch the end live..lol !
Aloha fishwister, First of all mahalo for taking video of me and putting it on You Tube. I'm not a computer person but ever since I was introduced to You Tube, I like to fool around on the computer. Next time we go down to Waikiki, my Wife will video my performance of Hotel California and put it on You Tube. There's one thing I would like you to do for me. Please remove the video response of ukulele911.
Aloha Troy...done deal my friend, he really butchered it eh?...BTW Troy, I think we may both know somebody...I believe you may have worked with Brett Ortone in the studio in Hawaii. We used to work together when he still lived in Cali...small world...play on braddah!
Oh man, I just saw Troy on kalakuah not even 2 hours ago! I heard him play Hotel California and a Hawaiian song; I thought it was amazing. I went to get some some cash to grab a CD from him. Man it was great because I was the only one there with jsut me and my dad, so it was an amazing intimate performance!
Aloha hytrees, I teach one on one private lessons monday through friday from 2:30 to 6:30 pm. If your interested call me at 737-7096. Mahalo Troy Fernandez
Troy, You are the best!! Wish I was there live. You are also the reason I picked up the uke. Street corner or Carnegie Hall, it is the talent that counts, and this guy is da best!!!!
Troy, that would be a fulfilled dream for me. However, I am from Chicago (your aloha reaches across the world). However, I plan to travel there around Thanksgiving time, and if you are still performing there (or anywhere else), there is nothing I would rather do than hang out. See you then.
WOW! Why is on the street??? Hopefully this is a treat for the tourist or something.. This bruddah is the reason I started playing.. Hope all is well him... Mahalo for the upload!!!
Aloha bjet1425, Preparing my Daughters for the big time is the main reason why we do street performance. Instead of only singing for Mommy and Daddy at home. I needed to find them an audience. I'm their opening act. Their the Headliners.
One day you will see my Daughters on MTV. Also you wouldn't believe how good we do in Waikiki.
Mahalo Troy Fernandez You can also come and hang out with us on the weekends too.
Aloha mistahukulele808, One of the best compliments is when I see other ukulele players playing my songs. And playing it well too. Good job. Mahalo Troy Fernandez
Aloha guitar guy 159, I know you got my back on this one.
I would have love to see what ukulele911 wrote on his comment but he had already removed his comment.
But the idiot ukulele911 had the nerve to send me a video comment of him playing the same song I did. Just like he's calling me out. I'm at the corner of Kalakaua and Seaside
every Friday and Saturday from 7 to 11. So come on down.
I may have, because I always walk along that stretch at night to enjoy the performers. I'll be back in late August and into Sep. Hopefully you will be there to see. Cheers
We definately will be looking out for you to throw some money in your pot. We'll be back in Waikiki Aug. 23 until sometime in September. Always look forward to it. Cheers
It's great to see you supporting your daughters dreams! I understand what you mean about the freedom you have playing on the street..more power to you braddah!!
gotta admitt...hes where i started learning my basics...but.... his style is so recognizable. when i tried to learn jakes or peter moons stuff by ear. das where the wall came up. was almost opposite what troy plays....troys OG tho..cant take anything from him..
You have to be an EXTREMELY GOOD uke musician to have your style "so recognizable"! I think this guy still has the true ukulele sound! For example, try to duplicate this on a guitar, I bet you don't come close! A lot of the other new uke players don't jam like this anymore...
Solid Jams Bruddah Troy! Mahalo for giving me something to model after during my younger years!
Yeah dont get me wrong Troy is good. I think his Ka'au albums with Ernie Cruz paved the way for a lot of Uke players like myself. True a lot of uke players dont play his style cause they werent around when Troy was popular. Troy still got it though....every decent uke player ought to know Guava Jam, On Fire, TNC. Das Classics!!!

Aloha, thank you for your support, why not on the street?
There's so much reasons why I like performing on the streets.
I meet people from around the world. A lot of people look at street performers as people that are struggling. But not even.
Me and my two Daughters perform every Friday and Saturday night on the corner of Kalakaua and Seaside.
from 7 to 11. So come on down and enjoy the fun with us.
