Can someone explain to me how to read notes like that?

Every site I go to has the chords set up that way,and I haven't the faintest how to read them.:(

each number represents a fret that your finger is supposed to go to, and each of the numbers appears to be on a string. for instance, in G chord it says for the bottom string and the next string up to press the third fret on each, and for the next two strings up to leave them open. then on the second string from the top on your guitar, to press on the second fret, and on the very top string to press the 3rd fret. if there's an "X" then that means to mute the note on that string

its a capo. it basically clamps down the strings so you can play open notes on a higher fret. enjoy!
