Anyone, can you tell me what special of Vovinam (the difference with others). It is like a mix of many kinds of kungfu. The only thing I can see it different is it is more likely kungfu for street fighting, there are wicked moves and easily kill someone.

Vovinam is started in 1936 (not for so long). I think Vietnamese professionals must do some research and proclaim to us such as where did Mr.NguyenLoc learn? and what did he base on to create Vovinam?

i think Vovinam was made to fight against the chinese during their invasion. They trained in weapons to fight, but if they didnt have a weapon, then they needed a quick technique to kill their opponents and tahts what the scissor kick to the neck is for. also, vovinam was consider the martial arts vietnam used to gain their independence, so they have alot of heart and respect in it.

Who said that the leg techniques are impossible moves to pull off? It's because you haven't studied Vovinam long enough in order to successfully pull it off. If, for example, a 150cm Vietnamese guy fought a 2 meter Smack Down Fighter, maybe that smack down guy could do the head slam, but normally, no one can do the head slam as u said, because the force of the whole body pushes to your neck, and moreover, Vovinam fighters don't just do the scissor to your neck and then stay there to wait for u to react, but right after the scissor he turns his whole body and then you end up being on the ground cuz u will lose balance

While I can't say that the scissors are the most effective way to fight, to call it useless is frankly BS. Less flashy versions show up in a variety of arts and I can see why they would show this in a demo even if they might not believe themselves that it's a good thing to try in a street fight. It shows the level of agility they have developed. Frankly I'm too big of a guy to probably physically do these moves without hurting myself, but this art has made top 5 on my list anyways.

Their kicks are as effective as Taekwondo, and even more stable because we care about the force and the strength of the kick, not how fancy a kick is performed. I got a black belt and first dan in Taekwondo, then took 3 years of Vovinam, and I see how deadly a kick can become if you can perform it right and apply the right force!!

They kick, punch, take down, scissor kick (check out an Cung Le, an MMA fighter, if you don't believe me!).

The distinctive style, from what i had learn, is the thrust kick (don't even know how it's called in english). There are many variation of the thrust kick depending on the situation or the distant between you and your opponent. They are really effective in a real fight!!
