I love your lessons. Can you or anyone tell me a great spanish-english dictionary app for my iPhone, I don't mind paying for one I just want it to be complete and easy to use and it MUST talk to me. Pronunciation doesn't come naturally to me so I need a talking dictionary. Any suggestions?
@MaLdERaranjuez Yo sé; pero a lo que yo me refería era en la parte donde él dice: "Son las cinco para las siete" lo cual es diferente a "las siete menos cinco" pues así también se dice en Argentina y Uruguay. Pero la forma como yo le estaba diciendo "faltan cinco para las siete" es como se dice en Colombia.
These videos r amazing, and ofcourse very helpful. What makes Prof. Jason's videos great is the fact that they r short and to the point, since long videos tend to get boring
Some people say "son la una" here in Argentina, though it´s incorrect . If I had to teach Spanish to English native speakers, I would have doubts very often heeheehhehehe.
I'm a native spanish speaker, and this video is correct, but when you say the time with minutes, let's say it's 6:40, you say: "Son las seis cuarenta" , not saying the "y". It sounds better. When you use "Y" is when you just say a specified length of time, like if they ask you, "How long did you took?" or in spanish "Cuanto tiempo te tardaste?" and you respond "Dos horas y cuarenta minutos" or in english "Two hours and forty minutes". Hope that helps
Senor Jason, Thank you for this video it completely made me understand how to tell time for my test which is in 45min . you are a god send as I was stressing out over it.
Great!!! this really helps for a beginning spanish speaker like me.. Thank you very much ( finally some usefull videos on youtube ;P ).. Gracias Hasta Luego
Well, according to rules etc. one must say: "¿qué hora es?" but saying "¿Qué horas son?" is also right (where I am, we often say: "¿Qué hora(s) tienes?" "¿Qué hora(s) traes?" "¿Qué hora(s) viene(n) siendo?")... "Son cinco para las siete" (2:54) , you can also say: "Faltan cinco para las siete" or "Quedan cinco para las siete."
NOTE: When you hear "¿Qué hora es?" "¿Qué horas son?" "¿Qué hora(s) tienes?" etc., the answer can also be: las 7, las 8, las 6, las 9, las 5 40, las 6 50, las 3 45, etc. without saying necessarily "son" and "y"
@SSamanosuke It depends the person. I'm native speaker as well, but i use tu say ¿"qué horas son"? My answe is always "Son las ... tal... " uy, ya son las 12:45 y no me he acostado" and sort of...
Pero, ¿Cuál es el acento de España? Deberías saber que en España hay 4 lenguas oficiales y más acentos, así que NO EXISTE ACENTO ESPAÑOL. Además deberías aprender a escribir, ya que "estube" es una barbaridad...
Don't get me wrong professor -I've been following your lessons and they're great.
I'm just not sure about this one though. I think it could be much simpler. If someone's learning to tell the time - for the first time - do they really need the 'quarter past' AS WELL AS the 'son las dos y quince'. Isn't it about easing yourself gently at this level?
(Look at 'La hora' by kplinske, for example.)
Keep up the good work - I don't mean to complain.) Oh, and stop saying 'OK' after everything, OK?!
@Whitecimarron carnal se ve que sabes español pero recuerda que se utiliza la ¨ñ¨ y no la n es un error muy comun para los que aprenden español ya que en el ingles no hay ¨ñ¨ saludos XD
Jaja... muchas gracias por todos los comentarios! Realmente aprecio las palabras de apoyo! Qué bueno que te hayan gustado mis videos :) Tu español ya está bastante bueno!
Hello I am a teacher in Colombia. I don't mean to insult your intelligance. What you said was that 6:40 would be, Son las siete menos veinte. The correct way would be, Faltan veinte para las siete.
liko, I believe both forms, the one I used and the one you suggest, are correct. Also, it is correct to say Son viente para las seite. All three forms are perfectly acceptable, though one may be more common in a given region...
In Spain is very common to hear for example 6:40 "Son las siete menos veinte".Of course not in my country Mexico or Colombia or maybe the rest of latin america but definitely is very very common in Spain, I heard that a lot from Spaniards. In Mexico we'd say "son las seis cuarenta" (6:40)without the "y".
gracias, professor jason ^_^ you've been very helpful in my struggle to learn spanish effectively. it's hard, but learning from you somehow alleviates the difficulty in speaking, reading and writing spanish. ^_^ you're a wonderful teacher. btw, can u teach us El Verbo SER, ESTAR, TENER & HABER?
When adding the minutes to the time ur saying it correct, but culturally we don't really pronounce the "y" or in English "and" (its pretty rare to do). Just pronounce it as u would in English like Four-thirty-five. Skip the "y" part in Spanish. Not when counting, but yes when telling time.
I have been studying Spanish for about a year now (off & on), and your videos are enormously helpful.
I wish there was a way to transfer your Spanish speaking skills from your brain to my brain, but since there isn't, I'll just have to keep learning from your videos.
Professor Jason! Explain please:
When we talk about 15 minutes later, for example 6:15, how should we write such phrase:
Son las seis y CUARTO
or Son las seis y QUARTO
In your video it's written in both examples, but which is correct?
