  • Professor Jason! Explain please:

When we talk about 15 minutes later, for example 6:15, how should we write such phrase:

    Son las seis y CUARTO

or Son las seis y QUARTO

In your video it's written in both examples, but which is correct?

  • So they taught us to say "Son las nueve en punto" and bieng the white guy i am, yelled out, "Isn't punto a cuss word!??!" everyone laughed XD

  • thanks that was real useful!

  • My spanish homework just got easier :D

  • we watched this in spanish class!

  • good video :)

  • Thank you!!!!! I missed my spanish class earlier this week. A classmate told me they covered days of the week, months of the year and telling time. With your videos, I was able to get caught up before I even got my notes from my classmate. Gracias!!!!

  • Hola Profesor Jason.

I love your lessons. Can you or anyone tell me a great spanish-english dictionary app for my iPhone, I don't mind paying for one I just want it to be complete and easy to use and it MUST talk to me. Pronunciation doesn't come naturally to me so I need a talking dictionary. Any suggestions?

  • i wish that u were my spanish teacher because i hate mine

  • Thank you Profesor Jason, i like all your lessons.

  • wow youre a REALLY good professor, I wish i had you at my college!!

  • omg?! this worked so much for studying finals 2morrow! :D gracias Sr.!

  • thanks i passed my spainsh test by being able to tell the time!

  • very good video thanks

  • These videos r amazing, and ofcourse very helpful. What makes Prof. Jason's videos great is the fact that they r short and to the point, since long videos tend to get boring

  • these videos are very helpful

  • Some people say "son la una" here in Argentina, though it´s incorrect . If I had to teach Spanish to English native speakers, I would have doubts very often heeheehhehehe.

  • Muchos Gracias!

  • I'm a native spanish speaker, and this video is correct, but when you say the time with minutes, let's say it's 6:40, you say: "Son las seis cuarenta" , not saying the "y". It sounds better. When you use "Y" is when you just say a specified length of time, like if they ask you, "How long did you took?" or in spanish "Cuanto tiempo te tardaste?" and you respond "Dos horas y cuarenta minutos" or in english "Two hours and forty minutes". Hope that helps

  • what if it is 3;40 do I say Son las tres y caurtoze

  • Or you can say son las cuatro menos veinte

  • No, you can say either "Son las tres y cuarenta" or "Faltan veinte para las cuatro"

  • this really helped me

  • Senor Jason, Thank you for this video it completely made me understand how to tell time for my test which is in 45min . you are a god send as I was stressing out over it.

  • Great!!! this really helps for a beginning spanish speaker like me.. Thank you very much ( finally some usefull videos on youtube ;P ).. Gracias Hasta Luego

  • these videos help me loads thank you, you make it so easy to understand. love it !!

  • Well, according to rules etc. one must say: "¿qué hora es?" but saying "¿Qué horas son?" is also right (where I am, we often say: "¿Qué hora(s) tienes?" "¿Qué hora(s) traes?" "¿Qué hora(s) viene(n) siendo?")... "Son cinco para las siete" (2:54) , you can also say: "Faltan cinco para las siete" or "Quedan cinco para las siete."

  • NOTE: When you hear "¿Qué hora es?" "¿Qué horas son?" "¿Qué hora(s) tienes?" etc., the answer can also be: las 7, las 8, las 6, las 9, las 5 40, las 6 50, las 3 45, etc. without saying necessarily "son" and "y"

  • @SSamanosuke It depends the person. I'm native speaker as well, but i use tu say ¿"qué horas son"? My answe is always "Son las ... tal... " uy, ya son las 12:45 y no me he acostado" and sort of...

  • I need more advanced , longer sentences can you upload longer sentences so i can practice for my new job?

  • Pero, ¿Cuál es el acento de España? Deberías saber que en España hay 4 lenguas oficiales y más acentos, así que NO EXISTE ACENTO ESPAÑOL. Además deberías aprender a escribir, ya que "estube" es una barbaridad...

  • Lighten up

  • Hell you're great :D

I'm learning spanish at school and aren't that good :S

But your vid helped me out a lot!

I'm going to watch your other vids too!

    Well, gracias.

(excuse my bad english, i'm from germany :S)

  • Thanks for the video you helped me clear some things up for be before my final =0

  • Jason, you're such a doll baby. :)

  • conjugation of the verb to have in spanish.

    thanks

  • Oh this is so great. My daughter is starting a Spanish class and I wanted to participate a little to support her. This is perfect!

    Thanks! (Gracias!)

  • Don't get me wrong professor -I've been following your lessons and they're great.

I'm just not sure about this one though. I think it could be much simpler. If someone's learning to tell the time - for the first time - do they really need the 'quarter past' AS WELL AS the 'son las dos y quince'. Isn't it about easing yourself gently at this level?

(Look at 'La hora' by kplinske, for example.)

Keep up the good work - I don't mean to complain.) Oh, and stop saying 'OK' after everything, OK?!

  • Profesor Jason,

    Hablo Espanol sin problemas.

Sin ser profesor, he estado tratando de ayudar a una persona a aprender Espanol y sus videos me han sido de una gran ayuda.

    Muchas gracias.

  • ah qué bueno cimarrón... es por eso mismo que grabé estas clases, qué bueno que te sean útiles!

  • THank you very much sir

  • @Whitecimarron carnal se ve que sabes español pero recuerda que se utiliza la ¨ñ¨ y no la n es un error muy comun para los que aprenden español ya que en el ingles no hay ¨ñ¨ saludos XD

  • que h0ra es???

    what time is it???

  • Jaja... muchas gracias por todos los comentarios! Realmente aprecio las palabras de apoyo! Qué bueno que te hayan gustado mis videos :) Tu español ya está bastante bueno!

  • Profesor Jason,

Ud. lo esta haciendo fantasticamente bien.

No ponga atencion a los mediocres y resentidos.

  • Hello I am a teacher in Colombia. I don't mean to insult your intelligance. What you said was that 6:40 would be, Son las siete menos veinte. The correct way would be, Faltan veinte para las siete.

  • liko, I believe both forms, the one I used and the one you suggest, are correct. Also, it is correct to say Son viente para las seite. All three forms are perfectly acceptable, though one may be more common in a given region...

  • I am a Spanish professor and I can assure you that both are correct and completely acceptable.

  • i was taught son las siete bla bla

  • In Spain is very common to hear for example 6:40 "Son las siete menos veinte".Of course not in my country Mexico or Colombia or maybe the rest of latin america but definitely is very very common in Spain, I heard that a lot from Spaniards. In Mexico we'd say "son las seis cuarenta" (6:40)without the "y".

  • gracias, professor jason ^_^ you've been very helpful in my struggle to learn spanish effectively. it's hard, but learning from you somehow alleviates the difficulty in speaking, reading and writing spanish. ^_^ you're a wonderful teacher. btw, can u teach us El Verbo SER, ESTAR, TENER & HABER?

  • At 05:18 the subtitle says:

    ?Qué horas es?

    Shouldn't it be

    ?Qué hora es?

    Otherwise, great job

  • thanks so much i was having trouble doing this in spanish class

  • Yeah man el acento de españa, UHHHH!!!!

  • When adding the minutes to the time ur saying it correct, but culturally we don't really pronounce the "y" or in English "and" (its pretty rare to do). Just pronounce it as u would in English like Four-thirty-five. Skip the "y" part in Spanish. Not when counting, but yes when telling time.

  • Thank You SO much for doing these videos!!!

I have been studying Spanish for about a year now (off & on), and your videos are enormously helpful.

I wish there was a way to transfer your Spanish speaking skills from your brain to my brain, but since there isn't, I'll just have to keep learning from your videos.

  • dude i love you

  • vivé dos años en Chile, cumpa

  • "vive" ???? vivi, claro con acento en la "i" Por otra parte que es "cumpa"? o quisite decir "compa" ?? de compadre o companero?

  • cumpa es compa(dre) en español chileno... Nunca leíste los Condorito? ;)

  • ser vs. estar is really confusing can u plz make a video for it. thanks alot

  • Very useful information. Muy bien.

  • i just love the way you eaplain things. You're great!

    Muchas gracias! ^ ^

  • what does "que tal" mean?

  • It means "how's it going".

  • that's a slur for like "How's it going", "what's up". The formal way would be "Cómo estas" or "How are you".

  • @sananabanana101 qué tal = what's up?

  • great lesson but there is one problem. you spelled cuarto in one part of the video. also can you make a ser vs. estar video?

  • very useful information , even my mood is better now, thank you. Wait for more Spanish lessons with exercises.

  • nice pronunciation!

  • I love your videos. I would like to see more portuguese please. Thanks Claudia btw do u have a my space page?

  • Last 2 lessons very useful. Much appreciated.
