Thanks for the sub man, keep up the compositions, they're all great! I particularly like this one! Take a closer look into jazz harmony - 9ths/11ths/13ths and just generally more dissonance perhaps with minor 7 flat 5 chords or dominant 7 sharp 5s and just stuff like that to spice up your pieces even more! Thanks again, Olly.
@AltoSaxOlly Hehe, dont worry man, Im a theory buff =D. I know from as simple as a maj7 to as complex as a dom13#5b9#11. This piece just didnt call for any severe amounts of dissonance - I just got a bit darker at the bass solo but thats about all the dissonance this needed >_<. I hope to write some more jazz and hopefully those half dims and more deeply altered chords would come in later! Greetings!
@Arrow9100kj - well said, i think perhaps you're right, it would of spoiled the 'lullaby' feel to add more dissonance perhaps! Im glad you're interested in writing more jazz, perhaps you could even experiment with improvisation, i dare you! ;) I really like what you do and i'll be very interested to see what you come up with next! I find composition a very arduous process! I did once compose a fantasia on a theme of chopin if you're interested, its on my channel somewhere :):):)
@AltoSaxOlly Oh yes, Im very much subbed to your channel and will check your fantasia soon. Composition can INDEED be arduous...I often have to take breaks....this particular piece was one of the most challenging ones I ever did - took me 3 days and a couple sleepless nights and weeks of studying and internalizing jazz structures O_O. I need to contact you so expect a PM from me soon, Olly ^_^
This is so pretty: The seconds in the first few bars just reel you in and then you get the surprise of the jazz :D It's like walking into a sleepy town and then finding out that people of different races and automobiles just driving everywhere and just how busy everything is! And then it goes back to the sleepy beautiful jazzy movement. This is so amazing! It's full of wonderful ideas everywhereee~ <3
@PianoSalmon Hahaha thanks VERY much Thien! This piece does represent growth and city life. The story is about a kid growing up and experiencing life. The piece generally has 3 sections the lullaby at the start - representing childhood innocence then the middle faster section - representing the hustle of young adulthood and then the final section which represents maturity in age. Im so glad you realised that I rearranged and spiced up the opening lullaby section at the end XD!!
It's cool, would feel right to add a fusion guitar in there. Sounds fun. Btw what is Aqua Regis. Also EP, ending piece? I'm used to ep as a short for epiphone.
Love the fast part and all the jazzy elements you added to this composition! If this were to be placed in a video game, I think it would be suitable as "town" music. :) The thing I'd like to know is what software you are using, and where I will be able to find it. I really need to get into composing my own stuff, and you've already inspired me.
Zomg, what excellent development, and EXTREMELY unexpected -- the jazz angle completely and utterly took me by surprise, and that doesn't often happen to me xD But now I get it -- "The Cradle Will 'Swing' ". God, you are clever.
This is one of the best things I've heard from you yet. You are a genius, indisputably *)*
@ZachEatonMusic OMG *Dies*! Thanks a zillion Zach! Tho you should have expected it cuz I told u in a PM that I wanted to have a swing at blues/jazz XD! Thanks for the props on my naming of the piece. I think I shocked myself with the name as well. Much gratitude for the unending support from you Zach! I also wrote a better description so check it out when ur free ^_^
I love how adventurous this sounds. I mean, you can never tell what's gonna happen next. It also has a really jazzy feel to it. The only thing I hope is that this wasn't meant to be a battle theme, because it seems too relaxed to be one. I know for a fact that you are great at making them, but this, although incredible as it is, isn't quite suited to be one. It's actually very similar to sazh's theme from final fantasy 13. Great job! Keep it up!
@typohear Thanks buddy! I get a kick outta keeping my audience's attention and sending curveballs there way every so often XD! Def not a battle theme pal XD! Look out for 'VG Composition Challenge" in the title for any of the pieces from my 5 piece battle theme suite. I'll get back to working on those pretty soon! Thanks for commenting ^_^!
The blues interlude seems to interrupt the development of the first theme rather than add to it. I think the first part needs more space to grow - there's interesting ideas but they're a bit crowded.
The second part is lovely, really nice trio sound! Bass sounds especially good. The structure of the whole piece gives me the impression that there's some extra story or context to the music?
@Kiamet Oh thanks Casey! Interruption of development was a central theme to this piece. I intentionally interrupted development in certain areas such as the beginning, notice how the lullaby was disrupted by the introduction of a jazz ensemble? Also, there wasnt any first theme to begin with - that section from 0:30 was all introduction for the blues section, I was basically getting the listener accustommed to the switch from harp to piano and I was introducing the walking bass TBC
@Arrow9100kj as I was introducing the walking bass as well, which supported the blues section. I also have a thing for surprising my listener's at very odd moments. I tried to set it up so that the listener feels like the piece is over at about 1:30 and then I just rearranged and did lots with the 'lullaby' theme at the start in a trio form ^^. And your intuitions are spot on! This piece does have a story. Im still too lazy to type a stellar description but the name "The CRADLE will swing" TBC
@Arrow9100kj I cant say EXACTLY what's the story but my friend BackToTheFoundation summed it up nicely. The story is pretty much about the growth of a character, kinda from childhood (represented by the lullaby) to teenage/young adult yrs (party vibe created by blues) and then maturity (the more refined piano trio at the end). Still pretty vague but that *kinda* sums it up. Btw, I love knowing that there's someone out there intrigued enough to give me such mature critique. Thanks again Casey.
@ComposerSyterious Thanks very much for your comment as usual! I find myself very excited to hear what you and Zach have to say about my pieces. I really appreciate the detail you 2 put into the comments. It makes uploading so very worthwhile =). Spot on with all your observations as well Hill - thanks for noticing the bass solo, I really wanted to let each instrument show off their leading abilities as well as their ability to support other instruments. Many thanks for your comment Hill ^_^
Yeah, that jazzy jump at around 0:30 really works. It's your wonderful familiarity with harp noise, now with a cool ranch flavor. Great job, sir. The slower jazzy part from mid-point onward is my favorite. The bass really carries it.
@Merlandese Noise? My harps never make 'noise'......my pianos do tho XD! Lulz, Im just messing with ya Lan thanks for commenting =). The ending jazz part is actually based off of the opening lullaby, if you have time you can actually listen to the intro and the end and compare em =)
This is a nice change of pace for you; do I sence a little aleatory from the piano or is it just disonance? Doesn't really matter anyway, it all comes together beautifully!
@FreedomSound2010 *sense -hate to be a grammar nazi but u know, OCD XD! Well u know our views on aleAtory differ but I do like the randomness of the genre so I guess it could have subconsciously influenced me XD! I really did go a little crazy with dissonance and stuff in this tho O.o.
@seikun616 Thanks Bry!! And I know how it is, I just got out of a rut so I know how it can be. Hope you get the time you need to write or practice guitar =)!
The sun has set and the citizens of the day lay their heads sleepily down to rest, relaxing dreamily to the quiet of the evening. The opening of this peace sounds very reminiscent of a lullaby, peaceful and calm and soothing, a great set up.
@BackToTheFoundation Then the denizens of the night begin to awaken and go out and more through the darkness, sunlight is replaced with neon glows as the cities fill with the most odd assortment of misfits and fitmises imaginable, all hypnotized by the thumping bass, the heartbeat of the night, and the dissonant piano that is the hectic voice of unpredictable events. A drunkédness settles over everyone, and lost in the abyss of their mirth the party increases in its wildness...
@BackToTheFoundation The night burns on, now the energy of before has drained down as some have left the scene, and a solemn tone of pensive ponderers and night musicians asking questions that no one can answer fill the scenes, the candle wick burns down, but the night is not yet over. The denizens talk to each other in drunken humor laughing and whiling away the hours. Then the dawn brightens, and unwillingly, they must retreat back to their dens until the sun sinks down again.
@BackToTheFoundation Very well explained, Dan! Well suited for a jazz piece. You really do find story in the music. =D This story should be quoted for this piece!
YES SIR! These atmospheric chords is reminiscent of Masashi Hamauzu's early works! Your style is really forming man. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Your piano personalityis cultivating into something formidable!! =)

I've always associated your style and instrumentation with Hitoshi Sakimoto but this is like Masashi and Hitoshi teamed up and created an awesome song, meshing both of their styles. Of course, it's still entirely original on your end, and it's great! I love it. :D

Extremely awesome structure (very well done)! It really is like an adventure, like Dan said! Love the dynamics so much!
When it began with a harp, I was thrown off when the jazz part began, and I like that. xD I like the 12-bar influence at 0:53. =D
The piano sounds amazing! It's like it's being played by Josei from Soil and "Pimp" Sessions, and he's an amazing jazz pianist.
Hey, I noticed that you did some of that walking bass in this, as well as an awesome bass solo.
Keep pursuing, Kevon!
