I find it humorous that all of you find it so entertaining to fight over drum corps via YouTube...especially when half of you posting have probably never marched drum corps.
@roosky34 haha i agree =D...i bet all the performers have best buds in every corps hahaha....i cant wait to join Phantom next year =)....i just dont know what to do about the financial part heehee
I think its pretty classy. I'd love to be treated to tribute after my victory. DCI should bring this back. At least PR doesn't stop their performances mid-playing because the hash marks are a litle faded(towards hopkins, not the members). Seriously though, you should know your drill well enough by then to march with your eyes closed. You could see it in their faces, the cavies enjoyed it.

the cadets hadn't even started playing. and they weren't a little faded. it was kinda not visible on and between the 40s. there is no reason to put down another corps just to make Phantom seem better.
Maybe you should re-read my comment. He said the field was suitable to march on, I disagreed and pointed out the flaws in his statement. Saying it's an attack on George Hopkins doesn't make it not an attack on the corps. Hopkins represents the corps as Director. Besides, there is no reason to bring up the Cadets in a video that does not relate to them.
i disagree, if i say i dont like barack obama for any reason, that doesnt mean i dont like america- where, according to your logic, any comment made against him, is an attack on the country.
Hey.. whoever recorded this was literally right behind me! Im the cavaliers dude right next to you to the right (the camera catches half off my face)... Phantom was incredible that night, Hornline and Drumline. Members were actually crying during this performance in both corps.. it was a true sign of class on everyones part. I will never forget that night.
How was this classless? This was at finals, there are no "encores", you leave it all on the field. Cavies played Somewhere Over The Rainbow (their corps song), and PR played this.
Phantom turning and playing to the Cavies at retreat is anything but "classless". By doing so they proved themselves as maybe the classiest corps. They recognized the Cavaliers victory and played an utterly amazing tribute.
betaomega04-"Mahler belongs on stage with a 300-piece chorus, not brass on grass."
Really? That's like saying, "Black people belong back out on the fields as slaves not as free human beings."
Just because something was done one way originally, doesn't mean it's the best or right way to be done. Nice try to bring down P.regiment a little, you were't successful.

I'm all for supporting every corps' successes. What concerns me more was their classless act. After the awards are given, corps' are asked to leave the field so that the winning corps can celebrate with their encore performance. Phantom Regiment chooses to play out-of-turn directly towards the Cavaliers and not the fans as if they had something to prove. I don't care who you are; that is just something you DO NOT do in this activity. Period.
What Phantom did was not classless, and they were not trying to prove anything. I have friends in Cavaliers, and they did NOT think it was classless, they actually thought it was very classy of Phantom and enjoyed it! I don't get why this is a big deal when Cavaliers enjoyed what Phantom did.

My brother aged out with the Cavaliers this past season...maybe if you toured with PR for the better part of a summer, you would see where I'm coming from. Before 1985, 2nd-place corps' would perform for the champion, but not since then. Even when Phantom placed 2nd in 1989, they didn't perform an encore. For a corps that consistently prides themselves on being "the best corps in DCI," it's sad they had to go that low to make a bad point.
@betaomega04 4 years later I can tell you that you are clueless. The biggest honor the Regiment can bestow is an Elsa's performance. Its normally reserved for alumni. The Cavaliers were honored beyond belief
Do you care to explain that video of Star's 93 corps playing their hearts out to the Cadets at the finals retreat?
I think its an honor to have someone else play for you. And an honor to play to the victor. Or just be like the Cadets and storm out of retreat in disappointment after losing to the bluecoats.
I marched Phantom Regiment 94. At retreat during the finals, every corps turns and plays for the remaining corps on the field. This was one of the greatest memories of the season for me. Don't worry though, all the corps had to abandon the field for the victor.
i marched Devils 94 and the coolest part for me was to hear the "walk-offs" played to us in the end-zone before our victory run. So classy, cool, emotional...you name it.
if they would have turned to the fans...then i'd say maybe they were trying to say someting...BUT they turned to the cavaliers...it's a musical way to say congratulations...quit trying to argue...tons have people have ganged up on you and have made you look like a jackass..as if you didn't already do that yourself by calling them classless...and I LOVE THE CAVIES..and i'm saying this
first off we asked there permission, and its a sign of respect for the winner. if you werent there you shouldnt comment on things you dont know. im an alum of phantom and we are one of the classiest corps out there. and after that there drumline played latin lover for us, its all love and respect.
if u marched phantom u would know. when i joined it was a corps that always finished in the bottom 6. people join phantom because they love music and love passionate music and dont care about winning, they want to perform and feel good about it.

Don't care about winning? Strange...for as long as I have marched, I've never seen a corps do that after awards...maybe they're trying to prove something after the fact?

i wouldnt rag on him for that post.
he clearly stated that the comment wasnt intended for the members, but for the misguided George Hopkins. re-read the comment, then re-analyze it.

Some people don't like America for the man currently sitting in office.
But back to my original point. There is no reason to call out a corps on a completely related video they are not a part of.
wowommkay 3 years ago
so i dont know how it works but does 2nd place always pay tribute to the champion?

Betaomega04...
It's.
A.
Tribute.
BD did this for SCV with "You'll never Walk Alone" several years before (probably 1981), and some corps still pay this homage to the champion.
You'll notice the none of the Cavs are acting like they're insulted. It's because they understand what it meant.
