Benn is a champaigne socialist hypocrite. He renounced everything from his aristocratic past, including his name and peerage, but he didn't give up his multi million pound fortune, his Stansgate country estate, his Notting Hill house. He hasn't put these houses into the public sector. He hasn't given away his fortune to poor people. He is all for redistribution of wealth, as long as it isn't his.
Nonsense, it is not hypocritical to fight for the rights of others less fortunate than yourself. By your measure everyone who advocates socialism should be dirt poor eh? That way of course they would be weaker. This man could have been PM had he chose the establishment, he didnt, he stuck to his principles. They even stupidly offered him another peerage when he retired, he refused. In his mid eighties he still traverses the country speaking to meetings to campaign for democracy.
Michael Moore recently commanded everyone to lay off Tom Cruise, since "His religion is own damn business.... He's not firing rockets into Iraq."
So it's OK for Tom Cruise to market a dangerous and damaging cult that seeks make a profit through the destruction of families, since Tom Cruise is not like an US soldier in Iraq????
Michael Moore thinks he is entitled to turn off the reasoning facilities of individuals just by evoking "Iraq" on every issue-- no matter now vile his position.
So glad the world is seeing Tony Benn. I've been a fan for many, many years and the youth are embracing a truly great communicator of their deepest fears of how the world they are growing up in.
Tony Benn is a lifelong (old) Labour Party member, and a man with a fervent, and unshakable, belief that society is at its best when it works together, and not as individuals: not in the sense of Communism, but in the sense of a cohesive moral force where neighbour watches over the welfare of neighbour.
I watched the Tony Benn interview on Sicko, and my God. That man is absolutely brilliant! He's a hell of a thinker, and it makes me feel hopeful that if a man like him can get into power, we can have more like minded people doing the same the world over.
god i love tony benn he is so damn right, money does turn morals upside down, if the CEOs of the HMOs weren't so high on cold hard cash, they wouldn't be that inhuman to the american people.

I can't tell what party that Benn guy came from, his commentary doesn't seem biased, and the interview with him was the best part of the movie.
