If that's one of your first attempts I'm impressed. The Ui is pretty overwhelming at first for some of the effects. I've only been using AE for 2 or so weeks now, I'm I'm getting the hang of it. Try animating the lightning layer, the position, to go along with the camera, not just the origin and destination points of the lightning, and decrease the core radius and the glow, and make the glow colour a lighter blue, and it'll look awesome :)

no its actually pretty easy go to effect>generate>advanced lightning
or u can look up "advanced lightning" in the effects & presets
