  • Sandy Denny one of the best folk singers ever. I have been a Fairport fan since about 1970 and having spent 45 years at sea travelling all over this lovely planet, this song means so much to me. Great.

  • laying in bed with my new girlfriend after a frantic session, the first time i heard this, never looked back with them or her. xxxxxx

  • Probably the best Fairport song ever

  • best song ever, always reminds me of my mum for some reason. it sort of is/was my mum and her life in one brilliant song.

  • always loved the way Lamble brings up the drums - just ace!

  • The late Martin Lamble on drums, just great...

  • arguably the greatest song ever witten...certainly my desert island disc

  • @herol64700 Hello there, yeah couldn't agree more, great group !!! The picture was just a random shot i found, if i can find it on my computer i will send it you.

    Davey Boy

  • @oplbgtfdesv654bvtgrf -just wanted to say ditto on the picture. Very lovely peaceful song and the pic goes nicely.

  • Just discovered a new musical world through following links which started at groove armada. This resonates. Wicked! Cheers!

  • I listened to this stoned during the war....1969 It was on the juke box on Tu Dou Street in Saigon.....

  • I honestly can't think of a better way to spend 11minutes and 11 seconds!

  • ... anything with 'sandy denny' behind it is awesome! cheers.

  • precious and thanx for sharing ... : )

  • Class! Musicianship all round and the late lamented Sandy Denny. Gives me goosebumps....

  • this is what music is all about - stopping you in your tracks

    what a song

  • Un rolon

  • i found a cassette copy of this record at a random thrift store in boston. i didn't rewind the tape, popped it in and this was the first song that played. fucking insane tune, the last four minutes are HEAVY.

  • One take and that good, Thompsons guitar Swarbricks fiddle, Denny at her peak, genius, it doesn't come any better!

  • Sorry all, but this is as good as it gets, Thompsons guitar and Swarbricks fiddle made me realise what beauty is, and it fu**ing rocks too, love it!

  • Perfection in sonic form

  • They stopped making them like that... Thanks and lovely shot of the sunset...

  • I believe they did this in one take. Fantastic song, great voice and amazing instrumental.

  • The first time I heard this, I was listening to the radio in my pickup, on the way to retrieve materials for a cabin I was repairing for a customer. I pulled off the road into an abandoned church driveway and listened, knocked on my butt, it was so good. It was my introduction to Fairport Convention. Thanks for posting this.

  • No worries, nice storey :)

  • @nailswood I'm glad this affected you like it did me, it's so worth pulling over for!

  • @nailswood ,hi just read your comments stopping in a layby to listen to fairport convention, i think thats brilliant cos i did the same thing when i heard the song... but hey just thought i d tell you that. cheers ..................

  • @earthangel1936 Thanks for the kind words, glad you felt the same awe. The only other time I had to pull off and listen was when I heard (for the first time) Tori Amos sing "Me and a Gun". Sometimes a person has to stand still and hear.

  • One of the greatest songs in folk/rock history. Sandy Denny's voice is perfect and the Thompson/Swarbrick instrumental is astonishing.

  • WHAT a song! Great voice.

    Thanks for sharing!
