The 700 is based off of the 660 and the 600 before it, but it got slightly bigger with the updates, therefore 686cc so istead of a grizzly 686 they called it a 700. They could have added all of this to the 660, but there are upgrades that are on the 700 that could not have been easily put on the 660, like its air intakes, shocks on the lower a-arms, radiused a-arms, wieght centralization with the lower gas tank, eps. It was just easier to design a new quad..
The 700 does use the things that worked well on the 660 like, diff lock and diff lock switch, independent suspension, stationary speedo/information center, ultramatatic cvt, and easily removable racks.
i might not got EPS but its still a Grizzly 700, plenty enough speed, but like the power, with 686cc's, just needs to 2 Cyliners not 1 and who needs a 800 or 1000cc?
I disagree, I have 2008 grizzly se that has hit 74 mph on my gauge in stock form. And I'm not just bragging up yamaha either, because I also have 2 Polaris sportsman a 600 and a 800 and one china v-bike. I just live to ride and have fun!!!
No stock grizzly can go over 68mph because of rev limiters. My buddies speedo would register 72mph with cdi on speedo but I would pass him doing 68mph on mine. With Dyna and many mods on mine I have hit 73mph
There is no point to the new 700 lines Yamaha are putting out. Everything is the same except an increase of about 20cc's over the 660 lines. they are called a 700, but they are all 686cc's. in the long run, 20cc's is nothing.
I don't know if you agree or disagree with me. I said and meant that their is no point to the 700 Grizzly, And no reason for them not making the 660 anymore. There is only a 20cc difference between the 2. 20cc's means nothing.
No shot. My point is there is no reason to make the quad bigger. The 700 is only 20cc's larger then the 660. Virtually no difference. So why didn't they just put all the stuff from the 700 on the 660? That is my point.
True that it's only 20cc's, but the number on the side is more important to most buyers who don't really research what they're buying. Look at the "1000" Cat. That 950 has a hard time beating an 800 Can-am. They can do it, but that is 150cc's. I believe the only reason they went to "700" cc's is for marketing reasons.
Because the 700's advantages are that it is a completly different animal! Gull wing style rear A-arms along with the EFI make it a 100% improvement over the 660.
Dont get me wrong, i am a 660 fan, but the 700 fixes basically any/all flaws the 660's came with.
haha hmm my 2012 brute force 650 eats up my buddys 06 grizzly 660 , looks faster then the grizz 700's too :P

20cc's means alot, along with all the other improvements and changes they made on the engine, you can't compare old to new technology

eps efi and front diff lock
conmanwebb 3 years ago
All of which could have came standard on the 660. My point still stands.
Charagrin 3 years ago
hay dumbass 660 didnt have efi it used a carb and the 700 was the first 4wheeler with power steering but the diff lock did come on the 660
also they are a little diffrent the motor ts moved and some other stuff
