Anyone who doesn't want to play things on PC because they don't want to use the keyboard.. You can use a PS3 controller or a 360 controller with a PC. I thought this was a well-known fact but I guess people are still ignorant of that fact.
I loved demons souls so much, most have gotten a couple of hundred hours on it, dark souls I have yet to be as gripped as I was with demons souls, but tbh I think of them as console games, cant really imagine them on pc but being on pc it would really boost the online prospect, also if demons souls came out on pc it would be great to play that again with there being servers for it.
and then the someone in the publisher, not necessarily the developer decides that dark souls 1 has to go so more people will buy dark souls 2 (insert witty subtitle here). valve or they flip a switch... oops your digital copy no longer runs. yet i can go and buy any old console game and it will run perfectly fine. tell me tb, why do you think they have a right to determine if we can sell and if we can still use something we bought?
This is sort of what I dont like about the PC community, BF3 comes to console nothing but hate on console gamers, PC players demand a game console players do nothing to stop it....
@TheUltraluke I rarely see hate on console gamers. I do see hate on the console companies for allowing their consoles to persist so long, and thus stagnating the market. I prefer PC, though I do have a 360.
@TheUltraluke You are right. It's not the players' fault that games do or don't come to PC. And it's not the players fault that the consoles have persisted so long, dragging the market down. I lay the blame at Microsoft and Sony.
Your missing one fatal flaw, the controls would be horribly designed, making the game a worthless piece of crap. The reason dark souls was so good was because the controls were smooth and worked really well when you held the controller In Your hands. Dark souls in graphics would be amazing on pc, but the game play would suffer dramatically making the game a waste of time.
once you mentioned "Monster Hunter" I instantly knew you're my youtuber of my dreams, TB. They actually have a Monster Hunter for the PC, it's called "Monster Hunter Frontier", but there's no western release of the game in sight for ages. And it's been out for maybe 6 years..
@Blazimun1 i actually got a full refund (in store credit) for taking back a brand new game that i had had for less than a week. It was 60$ and i got exactly that amount back
1Alot of the comments here are off topic this is not about game pad vs keybord but wither or not the game companies are going to make or lose money by investing in a port to pc. the points for this are made in the video if you see a flaw in the argument already made then make your case, or add your support to totalhalibut.2.I would buy it for pc if i could!3.it cost a lot less to port a game then to make a game and get into a market that they would other wise not be part of.4piratesareeverywhere
1) TH's argument is flawed because he focuses on the gamer's experience instead of the bottom line of the dev other than empty promises about the game being on the market for a long time to make sales over a long term. Nobody needs money 20 years from now if they starve today.
2) The dev already said ages ago that they won't make a port. Too bad nobody here knows how to read the thread TH linked.
Between my brother and I, we own 5 copies of 'Demon's Souls'.. We saw it come out in Japan and were like 'holy shit, this game looks like an orgasm in a box', so we bought it, then the American release came out and my brother bought that to play with his American friends, THEN the Australian release came out and we bought that so we could play without lag and with our irl friends.. Yet I would still buy both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were they to come to PC
Actually, gaming probably wouldn't much of anything today if Nintendo didn't basically revive gaming. With the Famicon, not the NES as most people would say.
Before that we had the wild west that was the Atari 2600,
there are a few things that i don't like about PC:
1) You only have to buy a console once. You have to continually buy new things for the PC. ( Graphics cards, new computers, etc.) This can cost 100's of dollars. Maybe even up to one thousand
2) Using a keyboard sucks!
3) If you don't like the game, you can't return it for a refund, like with console games.
I think that this game could be good on PC, but I don't want it to delay the next game and ruin the PC gamers' thoughts if the port sucks.
1) That's the whole point of the argument. Better Hardware equals Better Experience for PC Hardcore Gamers.
2) Totally subjective.
3) There are refunds available for console games? Enlighten me where. If of course you mean by selling it, it effectively means you support Used Copy Sales, (which I might add I personally don't find anything wrong with), HOWEVER, the argument here is that it PREVENTS selling of USED GAMES.
@AcidKandi ok, let me ask you this: I you got a brand new game for pc ($60) and you were so excited but then it sucked, you'd be pissed, right? Sixty bucks thrown away. If you had bought that game for console at a game store, you could easily return it sometimes even for a full refund. and if it isn't a full refund, at least you get SOME money back for a game you'll never play again.
@mindbend13 You wouldn't get a full refund, unless the game store you are dealing with is idiotic. Also, you can return games on PC too, just not digital copies.
I do admire and respect pc gamers want DS to PC. its a great game but for the sake so not every souls fan that plays console gets pissed, it would be best for this petition to make the next souls title into 360/ps3/pc. this way we are all happy next title, I would hate to have to wait for From Software to work out their DS code to port it to PC. that would mean a longer ass wait for the next souls title and if you let another company do it...well more than likely it will be a half ass job.
While everything TotalBiscuit says here is true, the importance (or lack of to be more accurate) of the gaming PC to the Japanese market and developer cannot be understated. The PC is barely part of the gaming world in Japan, with consoles and mobile devises much more prominent. Hell, the PSP alone has more market say over there. So, in the case of Dark Souls, it's completely logical that they don't make a PC port. I'm surprised they even did a 360 version tbh, considering it's profile in Japan.
@SenorStansfield Japanese market =/= global market. As long as we let them know that a PC port would be profitable and worth the time and money that goes into porting it they'll most likely oblige and provide. While your reasoning is correct in why they didn't originally make a PC port it's not enough of a basis to say that they never will make one in the future.
@blobbyblobfish I presume the pre-pubescentry is strong in you. Programmers don't program for a thousand different PCs, there are hundreds of thousands of possibilities. And how do you think that if you're using your operating system? And don't insult people if you're an eight year old.
I loved Fallout 3 so much on my Xbox I bought it again on my PC. After buying Halo Combat Evolved on my original Xbox I bought it again on my 360 AND my PC! Their is a BIG market for these games on the PC and people want to buy them! On launch Skyrim had 230,000 people playing on just steam alone. Beth knows what they are doing, they aren't stupid. They make games that have the advantage of mods for the PC version as incentive for people to buy on that platform. That's pretty damn genius.
I dont think they will port DS on PC just because they are stuck up company that is very greedy and money driven (like Blizzard level of greed), therefore they know that there is a huge "fear" of their game being pirated, and rightfully so. Also I'd prefer that they spend their time working on new DS game, whether it would be on consoles or PC. Wasting their money and resources on making a port for PC is not worth imo. Tbh u can buy used xbox for like 60$. It's a price of a single AAA game...
@xenocide983 it is silly some companies argues over and over PC is drowning on pirating. Yet, Diablo 3 preorders seems over 500.000, and WoW subscriptions were over 10 million. Still people complains about piracy.
@Qaosbringer Diablo 3 is a big-name francise. So is WoW. Also, WoW is a subscription-based game. Whether someone pirates the game or not, Blizzard still makes a lot of money on the subs.
But look, while WoW had 10 mil subs, the other MMO's had much less in terms of sales and subs.
To everyone that has got a bit upset on my comment on here. I have to say I was really drunk when I posted and didn't mean to slag the PC or it's gamers off. But I still think that it wouldn't work due to Mods that's all. So please stop with all the inbox messages cunting me off as if I get anymore you will be reported to youtube thanks.
How the hell do you reply to replies to comments in your inbox? To the sad little nasal queer- I bought a 2nd hand 360 for 50 quid, don't tell me I could have bought a better PC for that price. Why the fuk would I want to? the 360 has too many great games, all optimized to perfection and fun to play. If DS was on PC only a few people could run it.With a PC programmers have to program for a 1000 different machines and owners who like unenjoyable weird shit and moaning.
Eh, they hate the pc down in Japan for some strange reason. Japanese ceo's are notoriously short-sighted and only see the market in their own country. It's almost like they don't know that gaming exists outside Japan. For a very long time the only japanese games we here in the western world saw was Final Fantasy and they skipped a few of them cause they didn't see a market for it in the west. Strictly talking about home gaming here, not arcades mind you.
Dont besurprised if dark souls didnt came on pc even after showing theres so much demand for pc version.the japanese ceos never listen to anyone.thats why itagi developer of ninja gaiden games left tecmo and now joined thq and he is now praising western developers and now cries about his bad experience with his japanese ceos.i am sure dark souls would be on pc if its from anyother publishers other than japanese except capcom.japanese ceos have no heart.people are overworked to death there.
Japanese hate pc gaming and even if pc gaming was more profitable to publishers and developers than consoles japanese developers like bandai namco, sega, square enix, tecmo never develop any games for pc because they support sony and they dont want any competitor for playstation.they release some games for xbox 360 only because of microsoft.theres no one like miocrosoft to look after for pc.
Dark Souls seems to be a game that really could be released for the PC. There was once in 2001 this game Blade of Darknes (Severance: Blade of Darkness in America and Blade: The Edge of Darkness in Spain). Some people say the gameplay is similar, and I got to say, Blade of Darkness' gameplay worked very well on the PC even if it may seem like a much of a console game.
This man has hit the nail on the HEAD!!!! id darksouls came out on the PC i would sell my PS3 cause I spent so much on my PC i love PC with a passion its my baby!
Hang on! PC gets bloody everything! If dark souls came to PC all that would happen is you lot would make mods and fuck up what is hands down the best game going.
@DockingThought Everything "goes to" PC? Not true. Let's start by discussing what isn't there on PC: Most sports games, most fighting games, JRPGs, TRPGs, Halo, Gears, God of War. Then let's discuss the history of gaming, which is that PC gaming CREATED your industry. You need to grow some respect, mate.
You don't have to switch, and you don't have to love PC games or gamers, but the platform is very respectable and it's being abandoned by producers in spite of market demand.
Both Halo and Gears of war were availible for the PC. Gears was a huge flop in terms of sales. Especially after PC gamers said they wanted that game and got tons of extra stuff that the 360 gamers didn't get.
@sc0pl355 Then I stand corrected on those two titles. I left off Killzone 2/3 also. I also left off Uncharted/2/3, Motorstorm, etc. I also do not begrudge you platformers, as that really is a genre made for console gaming (I'm a Megaman type of guy).
My point is that Console gaming is a naturally evolved extension of the arcades. In fact, consoles killed the Arcades because Arcade ports were starting to get really good in the 90's, which negated the reason to go to the arcades. Soon, the arcades were getting ports of Console titles. Then the arcades died.
No, it didn't. The ARCADES created console gaming. Look at some of the earliest console games. Pong, Breakout, Centipede, Galaga, space invaders. All arcade games first. After the rebirth, Mario, Duck Hunt, Bionic Commando. All arcade games.
PC gaming was TOTALLY different from Console gaming up until PC developers started porting their games to consoles and then started migrating to consoles, seeking better returns.
@sc0pl355 You're right and you're wrong at the same time. You're right because I accidentally skipped a few logical steps there, and worded it wrong when I made them.
Consoles are currently being sustained by FPS, with the occasional 3rd person shooter. Skipping "Kinect Adventures," the best selling games on 360 read like a list of modern FPS titles: CoD:Blops, Halo 3, CoD:MW2, Gears, Gears 2, Halo Reach, and FINALLY GTA IV. Admittedly old, but the point stands. Cont...
@soulcutterx13 "Consoles are currently being sustained by FPS"
Nope. Third Person shooters and adventure titles are currently the most popular titles on the consoles. First person shooters are popular, but that is because devs make a lot of FPS. IMO, FPS is the laziest game type from a development standpoint.
In fact, a lot of Console gamers that I know, prefer third-person games over first person, with a few exceptions.
@sc0pl355 I don't believe sales reflect that. But either way, Adventure games led to TPS, and they came not from the Megaman/Mario/Sonic phenomenon, but from Tomb Raider.
Either way, I amused myself for a day. My work here is done.
@sc0pl355 On PS3 it's a different story, with sales not being especially dominated by any one major franchise. GT5, MW2, Uncharted3/2, Motorstorm, Blops... In short, it's got a few genres, which makes them a little less assailable.
In short, the FPS genre was a purely PC phenomenon for a long, long while before consoles started picking it up around the release of CoD 2, and consoles didn't dominate the field until CoD 4. PC gamers created and sustained the FPS genre, which IS XBL.
@soulcutterx13 "FPS genre was a purely PC phenomenon for a long, long while before consoles started picking it up around the release of CoD 2"
Halo, have you forgotten it? How about Goldeneye? Forgot that one? No, Consoles had FPS' long before CoD2. But the fact remains that Consoles are not really reliant on FPS games. in my collection, I only have a few FPS. But I have a lot of RPG, TPS, adventure and TBS games. Plus, a LOT of revamped classic games.
Oh shut up Halo could be put on pc withought no problem becasue it's made in XNA which makes pc and xbox version at the same time, all xbox can be put on pc, but they don't ask them that yourself.
@DockingThought I've been on all 3 sides of the issue, and I don't think that people need to like anyone. I'm not mad and I wasn't mad (though I probably sounded mad), I just think people need history lessons sometimes.
@DockingThought First of all, we do not get 'bloody everything'. We miss out on a lot of titles. Dark and Demon souls for just 2 examples. Second, why does it matter TO YOU, if we get a game and mod it? I'm not forced to mod it, but if there is anything I dislike about the game I have the oppurtunity to change it. Also how does it affect you in the slightest? It doesn't, you're just an immature child who for some reason doesn't want other people to play his favourite game.
just one thing for all the people in this comment section you cant say for someone else which game is better its a personal preference so stop being so fanboyish because its a waste of time :)
Same here man, on both counts lol. While I DO really like Skyrim, and while it DOES seem like a much more "finished" and engaging game than Oblivion ever was, there IS still something missing. Sometimes you find yourself just trecking around with nothing to do, or having to walk 500 miles, which is when it gets boring. Its probably the best game of its kind, but "Souls" is on a completely different level. It might not be as deep or open, but its MUCH darker, much more thrilling, RAW, and fun.
YOU SILLY BOY! If you played dark souls you'd know that its a very difficult game. And if you have played online you will also realise that the game does not allow much communication with other players eg; i played on xbox but as soon as i joined a party chat it forced me to play in "offline mode". PC has MANY MANY ways of communicating that uses other programs which Dark Souls cannot control. CHECK..FUCKING..MATE!
i play my pc just as much as my xbox, and i would like to see this game come to pc but ONLY if people do not mod public lobbys. even so the xbox plays well and theres no real problems simply buying a xbox pad for you pc would solve any problem about controls. and dont bitch about cost youve cand afford a good rig you can atleast buy a £15 xbox pad
When this came out it convinced me to try out Dark Souls. Practically raised on PC gaming, I have always been reluctant to devote myself to a console. Soon after a sleepless night spent teaching myself to remain methodical, even after you know you "have it down", Dark Souls has risen to my 2nd favorite game of all time. The art, atmosphere, combat, and overall awesomeness of it is an experience that few games have come close to matching. Needless to say, if it came to PC, I would be very happy.
@Doozyliscious if dark souls is your second favorite game, whats first? becaue it must be pretty damned epic to even come close to comparing to dark souls. i only have one game that is anywhere near as good, and thats monster hunter (freedom unite, tri sucks because wii sucks).
@TheNexProductionz I combine Diablo and Diablo II for my 1st. I would say dark souls has a better mastery of almost every aspect (as well it should), but for the immense overall experience and enjoyment I have received from the Diablo franchise over the last 13 years, they top my list.
@Doozyliscious never played diablo but i did have diablo 2 and the expansion, and it is an amazing game. im doubtful whether mt PC will run diablo 3 though, i can barely play starcraft 2 on low settings, and dont have any spare cash for a gaming PC, which sucks.
@TheNexProductionz Same here. I only recently purchased a console mainly for skyrim (you can shout bandwagon and you'd be mostly right), because my laptop is about 6 years old, and I only use it for Diablo 2. I still only own Skyrim and Dark Souls because over the past 4 months, they've been all I needed. I'm hoping to save enough to get a high quality gaming pc in time for Diablo 3. Skyrim is a masterful game, but Dark Souls is just so much more... I can't even put it into words.
TotalBiscuit make this game popular this game is very hardcore and has pure gameplay but instead of dark souls getting all the credits skyrim does that doesnt even got shit on Dark Souls
All very good points. I own Dark souls for 360 and could never think of purchasing a version for my 5 year old laptop however this is not a case of the glorious pc master race demanding something which is how I felt about this petition up till now. I see now that anyway to support the developer can only be a good thing as they have made two astounding games. The only reason I can think for their reluctance is piracy which is a lot more prominent on pc than consoles
@deama15 Unlikely, considering that there still isn't a working Xbox emulator, 7 years after the xbox was replaced. Sure, there are emulators for the PS1 and 2, but the PS3 is dramatically different. If there were to be an emulator, I say you'd have to wait 7 or 8 years from this point before the technology is powerful enough to emulate PS3 or 360 hardware because they are so different.
@sc0pl355 you do know that the xbox is made by microsoft? The same company behind the creation of most PCs? Well, you ever thought they made it so that the difference between the two is so different that it makes it almost impossible to emulate?
you are too biased towards pcs to be taken seriously. consoles have so many better games than pcs that I couldn't care less that pcs are more powerful than consoles. although the difference is nowhere near like you claim. the 360 and ps3 are vastly more powerful than similar specced pcs. pcs never get used to the full like the 360/ps3 will be now. pc gaming is souless and for people who are seemingly incapable of enjoying a game for it's playability.this game is much better than skyrim too.
@Blobbyblobfish An xbox 360 made almost 6 years ago compared to a modern PC? Your joking right? I can understand that a PS3 is a powerful system, but an xbox? Common!
@Blobbyblobfish You my friend, are retarded. 360 and PS3 are IN NO WAY IN HELL "vastly more powerful" than PC's of the same price, PC's destroy consoles in every aspect of gaming if you argue with that your an idiot, consoles are a value way to game.
@Blobbyblobfish I don't want to start a flame war, but I do want to explain a different point of view to you.
For one, in terms of specs, good PCs are much more powerful than 360's or PS3s. Not only are they more powerful, but they can be updated. Which means, while a PS3 that was made 7 years ago, with 7 year old specs continues to be old, a 7 year old PC can be completely upgraded to be far superior to what it was.
I'm running out of characters, so I'll continue this in another message.
You say that PCs will never be used to the full like consoles are now. PCs have been used before the consoles came out, and they will continue to be used far after the consoles are considered vintage.
Games that are on console, the majority of them can also be bought on PC. And there are many, many more PC games than there are console games. The PC supports indie titles far more than the consoles do. And indie titles are amazing.
@Blobbyblobfish And on your comment of skyrim, unless you've played both fully, beaten both campaigns and played the game until there is nothing else to do, don't make a comment like that.
@ncshuriken You clearly don't know what you're talking about so it would be wise to shut up before it's too late and you make a huge idiot out of yourself.
Theres a lot of games that should come to PC, but to be honest, I think if it was going to happen, it would have already. Games such as Wip3out, Tenchu, Killzone, Bayonetta, God of War, Heavy Rain, Suikoden, Bushido Blade, F-Zero, Zelda.
Lets just face it. If you REALLY want to play these exclusive games SO badly, then your just gonna have to either BUY the console its on when you have the dosh, or download the emulator when it becomes available, and put up with the crappy 3D emulation flaws.
I didn't like demon's souls at all, and I feared dark souls would be pretty much more of the same, as far as I've seen this has been held to be true.
There is hard and then there is grinding... I don't play PC games to grind I play them to play.
Also I remember demon's souls having a bad president for PvP/multi-player. Not sure if dark souls is the same, the thing that annoyed me about it is that it tries to make me PvP when I don't want to PvP.
Haha, I played so much Demons Souls when I first bought it a couple months back, but I dont even know if I ever even fought against another HUMAN opponent. I mean, I DID fight a "black phantom" (which is sopposed to be a real PvP character), but he was fighting like an AI character, doing the same thing, OVER, and over again, he was tough, but it was SO easy to work out his tactics that I beat him on half heath. It was in the level with the Gargoyles.
@ncshuriken Pretty certain they turned the servers off for Demon's Souls last year, so I don't think it's possible to PvP or Co-op at all in it, there are AI Black Phantom's as it goes so almost certainly one of them. Also the game tells you VERY visibly when somebody enters your game...
I can confirm the servers are still running. I've played Co-op quests a few times recently, and I've been summoned into other peoples worlds as a white phantom, but it was more than a fortnite ago since I did. They better not turn them off LOL!!
To be honest I have never understood why developers make games solely for consoles. Sure, some games have controls completely unsuitable for the mouse and keyboard - this I can understand - but these games are so few and far between it almost shouldn't be an issue. Surely the amount of money a developer would make tapping into an whole entire other market would justify a simple port over?
@hodder200 "To be honest I have never understood why developers make games solely for consoles."
Because consoles are where the money is and it costs money to make ports. So, they have to pick which platforms they make their games for. PC is bottom-rung in terms of sales on average. SOME games do exceptionally well, but that is overshadowed by the overwhelming majority of good games that fail in the market.
@sc0pl355 Considering that Alan Wake broke even within a day or so of its release on the PC and the (justified) hype behind Dark Souls, money should not be the problem.
1) Big dog publisher, yes, but big dog title or developer, I think not? With a headstart of more than a year AW sold 1,1 mio copies. Dark Souls did 1,4 mio. (1,0 mio on PS3).
2) Dark Souls is on many GOTY-lists and what other consol-only game can show up a petition for a PC port with 86k signatures? I call that good publicity.
@EquinoxIV 1) The developer was the same company that developed Max Payne, which put third person action shooters on the Map. Alan Wake sold 1.1 million copies on ONE platform. Dark Souls did 1.4 million on TWO consoles. There's the rub.
2) 86k would be pretty pathetic if those signatures were guaranteed sales, which they are not. I recall some Japanese games getting far more sigs to be ported to the US market with very lackluster sales. It doesn't cost anything to sign something.
@EquinoxIV If you want to be even, you would compare sales, platform to platform. It is easy to sell a lot on the ps3 because it had a lack of games for a long time AND Demon's Souls was on the platform.
Actually, death rally's remake sold over a million copies recently on iOS alone. They made a handfull of games, but all of them are in the million+ sales club. That makes them Big Dogs. In the case of From, selling 1 mil+ on the PS3 is probably the best they have ever done by a large margin.
@sc0pl355 ??? Playstation and lack of games? In Q4 of 2011? In what parallel universe do you live?
And why on earth would I care about the sales of Death Rally when the qustion at hand is whether a port of Dark Souls to PC could be viable? I mentioned Alan Wake because that game was ported just recently and made up for the costs of porting within days, whilst consol sales were not better than those of Dark Souls. Go figure.
@EquinoxIV What was dark souls competing against when it came out on the PS3? The point is, you can't compare PS3 sales to 360 sales and call it even because both platforms have different factors that affect their sales.
"And why on earth would I care about the sales of Death Rally when the qustion at hand is whether a port of Dark Souls to PC could be viable?"
Because YOU suggested that the Dev for Max Payne wasn't bigtime despite the fact that everything that they've ever made sold 1mil++.
@EquinoxIV "I mentioned Alan Wake because that game was ported just recently and made up for the costs of porting within days"
Alan Wake is from a better developer and bigger publisher than Dark Souls is. ALSO, come to think about it, as I recall, PC gamers have been waiting years for Alan Wake.
"consol sales were not better than those of Dark Souls."
Alan Wake sold much better on the 360 than Dark Souls did on the same platform. What part of that don't you understand?
@EquinoxIV Also, there is another factor to look at.
Alan Wake was exclusive to the 360, while Dark Soul's was on the PS3. Any guess as to who bought the most copies of Dark Souls on the PS3? Japanese gamers! 38% of them in fact. On the 360 version, 63% of the people that bought dark souls were american. Now, for alan wake, it sold the lion's share in the US at 52% while the japanese only bought 4% of the game. So, A japanese game sold well on a japanese platform in japan? Shocking!
@sc0pl355 A) Comparing an 99ct iOS game with a 60$ title is stupid. B) 1 mio in sales is pitty compared to real big devs, who sell 5+ mio. Neither Remedy nor From are "big dog". For me, thats no criteria anyway, I think Psychonauts beats 99% of all games out there (not Dark Souls though). C) So Americans love Alan Wake and Japanese don't. DS sold well in all regions. So could a PC port.
@EquinoxIV "1 mio in sales is pitty compared to real big devs, who sell 5+ mio"
Remedy averages well over 1 million unit sales dude. From averages about 300k unit sales. there's the rub.
"I think Psychonauts beats 99% of all games out there"
Oh come now, I like Psychonauts too, but that is a wild boast. There are plenty of games that are just as good if not better than psychonauts. For the record, I like Dark Souls too, but it wasn't the second coming of christ. It was ok at best.
@sc0pl355 Both AW AND DS sold about 600k in the US and 400k/300k in Europe. Sure DS on two systems, but that doesn't take away from the the fact that about the same number of people bought these games in US and EU.
All I am saying, PC is a viable platform, Alan Wake broke even WITHIN 2 DAYS, if DS needed a few days more, so what? There is still money to be made.
And I stick to the 99%, caus a) personal taste and b) there are a lot of shitty and uninspired games out there.
If you say, DS doesn't work on PC for that and that technical reason, it would be a fair point. And yes, many people think PC=FPS&RTS only. However, RPGs are big on PC as well and just stating that there was no money to be made whilst so many people ask for a port and other titles of the same caliber are doing exeptionally well is incomprehensible to me.
@EquinoxIV The thing is that Dark Souls is actually an adventure game like Zelda or something along those lines. There's almost no actual role playing in the game. There's no real character interaction, no real plot, no real storytelling. That's why I compared the game to Zelda because both games have that in common.
"so many people ask for a port"
86k is not a lot of people. 5-10x more people *asked* for star wars kid to be digitally inserted into star wars. Should lucas consider doing it?
@EquinoxIV Also, on top of 86k not being a lot of people, there's the fact that 86k isn't even a number of guaranteed sales or even a guarantee that 86k individuals actually signed.
Seriously, if you guys want the game so bad, then bribe the dev to port it. Each and every one of you send them $20, no expectations. Then we'll see how many people really step up to the plate. Until you put some skin in the game, you're just neighborhood kids that want the red ball because Timmy has it.
@sc0pl355 86k is a lot, no matter if these are all certain sales or not. It's not like nobody who hasn't signed would not be able to buy the port. Comparing it to the Star Wars kid thingy is just silly. Furthermore, many games are ported to PC without ANY petition floating around.
And god would it be great if Zelda went down the Dark Souls road... That would actually make me buy a Wii U.
No it isn't. The game market contains millions upon millions of gamers.
"Comparing it to the Star Wars kid thingy is just silly. "
No, it isn't. Hundreds of thousands of people seriously asked for star wars kid to be included. If 86k people asking for one thing is to be taken seriously, then hundreds of thousands of people asking another thing should hold even more weight.
@EquinoxIV "And god would it be great if Zelda went down the Dark Souls road... "
It has. The only REAL difference between the two is the graphics and Zelda doesn't have MP. Oh, and dark souls has different armor to equip. I don't think you guys understand what Dark Souls is. It is a basic-ass dungeon crawler. Why not just play Diablo II or something? It would be a lot more interesting.
So are Video Arcades. Your point? PC isn't the right platform for every game.
"there are a lot of shitty and uninspired games out there."
Most people mention Psychonauts because it is trendy and bohemian. Not saying you are, but a lot do. I finished that game and I can tell you that there are waaaay better games out there. That's not saying it is bad tho.
I would absolutely LOVE for dark souls to come to pc as it would look amazing. I love it on a console would love it just as much, if not more, on the pc
I hated the console version of Dark Souls, I found the difficulty to be bad controls, bad hitboxes, and all the bugs, but with a mod and precision controls of pc i might actually be able to appreciate the game for the actual difficulty of monsters and traps and whatever else
Hell, if us console gamers get to play awesome games like Dark Souls, why shouldn't PC gamers? I say port it, they're missing out big time if they're not playing somthing as awesome as Dark Souls.
i love dark souls looking forward for next release

Anyone who doesn't want to play things on PC because they don't want to use the keyboard.. You can use a PS3 controller or a 360 controller with a PC. I thought this was a well-known fact but I guess people are still ignorant of that fact.

and then the someone in the publisher, not necessarily the developer decides that dark souls 1 has to go so more people will buy dark souls 2 (insert witty subtitle here). valve or they flip a switch... oops your digital copy no longer runs. yet i can go and buy any old console game and it will run perfectly fine. tell me tb, why do you think they have a right to determine if we can sell and if we can still use something we bought?

Your missing one fatal flaw, the controls would be horribly designed, making the game a worthless piece of crap. The reason dark souls was so good was because the controls were smooth and worked really well when you held the controller In Your hands. Dark souls in graphics would be amazing on pc, but the game play would suffer dramatically making the game a waste of time.

viciouscrisis 3 days ago 9
@viciouscrisis Two things.
Too bad nobody here knows how to read the thread TH linked.

there are a few things that i don't like about PC:
1) You only have to buy a console once. You have to continually buy new things for the PC. ( Graphics cards, new computers, etc.) This can cost 100's of dollars. Maybe even up to one thousand
2) Using a keyboard sucks!
3) If you don't like the game, you can't return it for a refund, like with console games.
I think that this game could be good on PC, but I don't want it to delay the next game and ruin the PC gamers' thoughts if the port sucks.
mindbend13 5 days ago
@mindbend13
AcidKandi 5 days ago
@AcidKandi ok, let me ask you this: I you got a brand new game for pc ($60) and you were so excited but then it sucked, you'd be pissed, right? Sixty bucks thrown away. If you had bought that game for console at a game store, you could easily return it sometimes even for a full refund. and if it isn't a full refund, at least you get SOME money back for a game you'll never play again.
mindbend13 4 days ago

SenorStansfield 6 days ago
@SenorStansfield Japanese market =/= global market. As long as we let them know that a PC port would be profitable and worth the time and money that goes into porting it they'll most likely oblige and provide. While your reasoning is correct in why they didn't originally make a PC port it's not enough of a basis to say that they never will make one in the future.

That's pretty damn genius.
afroebob 1 week ago

Qaosbringer 3 days ago
@Qaosbringer Diablo 3 is a big-name francise. So is WoW. Also, WoW is a subscription-based game. Whether someone pirates the game or not, Blizzard still makes a lot of money on the subs.
But look, while WoW had 10 mil subs, the other MMO's had much less in terms of sales and subs.

You don't have to switch, and you don't have to love PC games or gamers, but the platform is very respectable and it's being abandoned by producers in spite of market demand.
soulcutterx13 1 week ago 20
@soulcutterx13 " Halo, Gears, "
Both Halo and Gears of war were availible for the PC. Gears was a huge flop in terms of sales. Especially after PC gamers said they wanted that game and got tons of extra stuff that the 360 gamers didn't get.
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 Then I stand corrected on those two titles. I left off Killzone 2/3 also. I also left off Uncharted/2/3, Motorstorm, etc. I also do not begrudge you platformers, as that really is a genre made for console gaming (I'm a Megaman type of guy).
soulcutterx13 1 week ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@soulcutterx13 " I left off Killzone 2/3 also."
Those games are owned by Sony. No Dice.
" I also left off Uncharted/2/3"
Also owned by Sony.
Sound familiar?
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@soulcutterx13 "PC gaming CREATED your industry."

Cont...
soulcutterx13 1 week ago
@soulcutterx13 "Consoles are currently being sustained by FPS"
Nope. Third Person shooters and adventure titles are currently the most popular titles on the consoles. First person shooters are popular, but that is because devs make a lot of FPS. IMO, FPS is the laziest game type from a development standpoint.
In fact, a lot of Console gamers that I know, prefer third-person games over first person, with a few exceptions.
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 I don't believe sales reflect that. But either way, Adventure games led to TPS, and they came not from the Megaman/Mario/Sonic phenomenon, but from Tomb Raider.
Either way, I amused myself for a day. My work here is done.
soulcutterx13 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 On PS3 it's a different story, with sales not being especially dominated by any one major franchise. GT5, MW2, Uncharted3/2, Motorstorm, Blops... In short, it's got a few genres, which makes them a little less assailable.
In short, the FPS genre was a purely PC phenomenon for a long, long while before consoles started picking it up around the release of CoD 2, and consoles didn't dominate the field until CoD 4. PC gamers created and sustained the FPS genre, which IS XBL.
soulcutterx13 1 week ago
@soulcutterx13 "FPS genre was a purely PC phenomenon for a long, long while before consoles started picking it up around the release of CoD 2"
Halo, have you forgotten it? How about Goldeneye? Forgot that one? No, Consoles had FPS' long before CoD2. But the fact remains that Consoles are not really reliant on FPS games. in my collection, I only have a few FPS. But I have a lot of RPG, TPS, adventure and TBS games. Plus, a LOT of revamped classic games.

I only recently purchased a console mainly for skyrim (you can shout bandwagon and you'd be mostly right), because my laptop is about 6 years old, and I only use it for Diablo 2. you are too biased towards pcs to be taken seriously. consoles have so many better games than pcs that I couldn't care less that pcs are more powerful than consoles. although the difference is nowhere near like you claim. the 360 and ps3 are vastly more powerful than similar specced pcs. pcs never get used to the full like the 360/ps3 will be now. pc gaming is souless and for people who are seemingly incapable of enjoying a game for it's playability.this game is much better than skyrim too.

@Blobbyblobfish An xbox 360 made almost 6 years ago compared to a modern PC? Your joking right? I can understand that a PS3 is a powerful system, but an xbox? Common!

@Blobbyblobfish "PC gaming is soulless" i won't even bother setting up a counter argument for you if you think like that

@Blobbyblobfish Continuing from my previous post.

I don't like encouraging bad presidents.

@DoomsdayR3sistance
It was in the level with the Gargoyles.
ncshuriken 2 weeks ago
@ncshuriken Pretty certain they turned the servers off for Demon's Souls last year, so I don't think it's possible to PvP or Co-op at all in it, there are AI Black Phantom's as it goes so almost certainly one of them. Also the game tells you VERY visibly when somebody enters your game...
DoomsdayR3sistance 2 weeks ago
@DoomsdayR3sistance

Surely the amount of money a developer would make tapping into an whole entire other market would justify a simple port over?
hodder200 3 weeks ago
@hodder200 "To be honest I have never understood why developers make games solely for consoles."
Because consoles are where the money is and it costs money to make ports. So, they have to pick which platforms they make their games for. PC is bottom-rung in terms of sales on average. SOME games do exceptionally well, but that is overshadowed by the overwhelming majority of good games that fail in the market.
sc0pl355 3 weeks ago
@sc0pl355 Considering that Alan Wake broke even within a day or so of its release on the PC and the (justified) hype behind Dark Souls, money should not be the problem.
EquinoxIV 1 week ago
@EquinoxIV Let's see.
1) Alan Wake is a big dog title, made by a big dog developer, published by a big dog publisher.
2) 86k signatures is NOT a lot of hype.
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355
EquinoxIV 1 week ago
@EquinoxIV 1) The developer was the same company that developed Max Payne, which put third person action shooters on the Map. Alan Wake sold 1.1 million copies on ONE platform. Dark Souls did 1.4 million on TWO consoles. There's the rub.
2) 86k would be pretty pathetic if those signatures were guaranteed sales, which they are not. I recall some Japanese games getting far more sigs to be ported to the US market with very lackluster sales. It doesn't cost anything to sign something.
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 Let's see: Dark Souls on PS3 1 mio copies in less than half a year. Alan Wake 1,1 mio copies in almost 2 years. Cheers mate!
Oh, and Remedy has exactly one great title plus sequel to offer. Makes them effing Rockstar, does it?
EquinoxIV 1 week ago
@EquinoxIV If you want to be even, you would compare sales, platform to platform. It is easy to sell a lot on the ps3 because it had a lack of games for a long time AND Demon's Souls was on the platform.
Actually, death rally's remake sold over a million copies recently on iOS alone. They made a handfull of games, but all of them are in the million+ sales club. That makes them Big Dogs. In the case of From, selling 1 mil+ on the PS3 is probably the best they have ever done by a large margin.
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 ??? Playstation and lack of games? In Q4 of 2011? In what parallel universe do you live?
And why on earth would I care about the sales of Death Rally when the qustion at hand is whether a port of Dark Souls to PC could be viable? I mentioned Alan Wake because that game was ported just recently and made up for the costs of porting within days, whilst consol sales were not better than those of Dark Souls. Go figure.
EquinoxIV 1 week ago

@EquinoxIV What was dark souls competing against when it came out on the PS3? The point is, you can't compare PS3 sales to 360 sales and call it even because both platforms have different factors that affect their sales.
"And why on earth would I care about the sales of Death Rally when the qustion at hand is whether a port of Dark Souls to PC could be viable?"
Because YOU suggested that the Dev for Max Payne wasn't bigtime despite the fact that everything that they've ever made sold 1mil++.

What part of that don't you understand?
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@EquinoxIV Also, there is another factor to look at.
Alan Wake was exclusive to the 360, while Dark Soul's was on the PS3. Any guess as to who bought the most copies of Dark Souls on the PS3? Japanese gamers! 38% of them in fact. On the 360 version, 63% of the people that bought dark souls were american. Now, for alan wake, it sold the lion's share in the US at 52% while the japanese only bought 4% of the game. So, A japanese game sold well on a japanese platform in japan? Shocking!
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 A) Comparing an 99ct iOS game with a 60$ title is stupid. B) 1 mio in sales is pitty compared to real big devs, who sell 5+ mio. Neither Remedy nor From are "big dog". For me, thats no criteria anyway, I think Psychonauts beats 99% of all games out there (not Dark Souls though). C) So Americans love Alan Wake and Japanese don't. DS sold well in all regions. So could a PC port.

It was ok at best.
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 Both AW AND DS sold about 600k in the US and 400k/300k in Europe. Sure DS on two systems, but that doesn't take away from the the fact that about the same number of people bought these games in US and EU.
All I am saying, PC is a viable platform, Alan Wake broke even WITHIN 2 DAYS, if DS needed a few days more, so what? There is still money to be made.
And I stick to the 99%, caus a) personal taste and b) there are a lot of shitty and uninspired games out there.

@sc0pl355 The numbers are from VGchartz.

Should lucas consider doing it?
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@EquinoxIV Also, on top of 86k not being a lot of people, there's the fact that 86k isn't even a number of guaranteed sales or even a guarantee that 86k individuals actually signed.
Seriously, if you guys want the game so bad, then bribe the dev to port it. Each and every one of you send them $20, no expectations. Then we'll see how many people really step up to the plate. Until you put some skin in the game, you're just neighborhood kids that want the red ball because Timmy has it.
sc0pl355 1 week ago
@sc0pl355 86k is a lot, no matter if these are all certain sales or not. It's not like nobody who hasn't signed would not be able to buy the port. Comparing it to the Star Wars kid thingy is just silly. Furthermore, many games are ported to PC without ANY petition floating around.
And god would it be great if Zelda went down the Dark Souls road... That would actually make me buy a Wii U.
EquinoxIV 1 week ago
@EquinoxIV "86k is a lot"
No it isn't. The game market contains millions upon millions of gamers.
"Comparing it to the Star Wars kid thingy is just silly. "
No, it isn't. Hundreds of thousands of people seriously asked for star wars kid to be included. If 86k people asking for one thing is to be taken seriously, then hundreds of thousands of people asking another thing should hold even more weight.
sc0pl355 1 week ago

"So Americans love Alan Wake and Japanese don't."
It explains why dark souls sold well on the PS3 and why Alan wake sold well on the 360.
"So could a PC port."
1) Japanese gamers don't like PC gaming for the most part. It isn't popular there.
2) Dark Souls is DEPENDENT on Japanese sales.
You're saying that they should release the game for a platform that is not popular to their core audience. Think about that.

I stopped buying consoles a generation ago.
One of my most recent Steam purchases was Psychonauts, a game I bought for PS2 almost 7 years ago, which I payed for again through Steam.
I can't imagine why any developers would not want to port their games to PC, and this video provides a superb list of reasons why it is a good idea.
