Good old times if you want the best graphic card simply buy the newest voodoo. I had the voodoo 1 with the weird connection to a hell i dont know pci card. I passed the voodoo 2 and later i had the voodoo 3. My next graphic card was the nvidia geforce 1, 2, 3 lol the hell.
Really good times, staying with 7 other guys in a small sticky room, eating bad things, sleeping two hours and playing unreal, half life, counterstrike, C&C and starcraft. I miss them :-(
After looking at the videos with 3DFX emulation, they don't seem to be quite how I remember it looking with a real 3DFX. This would have been a good reference video, but a shame it's such a low resolution.
@jobrook911 ITl ooks like it's stil running in software mode like you said. There was a special SE version that had a GL wrapper/support for smooth 3d. The framerate was insane in real 3d mode, not software.
@iris030380 the voodoo rush was the first 2d/3d card 3dfx made.and the banshee was slower than the voodoo2 it used the same chip just only one texturing unit compared to 2 with the voodoo2
VOODOOS were the daddies of the early 3D revolution. I bought a MATROX mystique for £100 in 1997 because I couldnt afford a Voodoo, but the only thing it could play was the bundled software and MotoRacer (no support for bilinear filtering!). I saved and bought a Maxi Gamer 3DFX card and it was a beast. In conjunction with my devil fast P200mmx, I was running carmageddon and Screamer 2 in 16bit colour with over 30FPS..... 30!!!!
can anyone tell me anything about an old graphics card i found in a 2000-2001 rig, its an innovision "mighty banshee" i cant find any videos or anything,
The voodoo Banshee was 3Dfx's attempt to build a 3D graphics card with 2D capabilities built in, removing the need to buy a second 2D card which was needed to run the VooDoo 1 and 2 cards. The Banshees were quite powerful for the time, a little faster than a voodoo 2, but lack of support for older GLIDE games let them down. The VooDoo 3 was also a 2D/3D card and far quicker, and killed the Banshee dead. Look at WIKIPEDIA for more info, it's all interesting stuff. Or maybe I'm just a big geek.
@iris030380 Actually the banshee was slower than the Voodoo 2 as it only had one TMU. It really was a good idea to have the two cards at that time. It wasn't until later with the TNT that a good card became an a-i-o.
back in the day 166Mhz is consider to be high end thing in mid 1990s ... that time my dad bought intel with 133 Mhz which he regret later on when some application need 166to run!!! hheeh... that time I have no idea we can overclock or something relevant to that!!! good old time!!
Dude the 133 was expensive. People still joke about it on rare occasions then again when the P2 first came out it cost nearly $2k but the P pro is the by far the most expensive that they have sold.
That would require a VGA box which are quite costly. You can't use capture software on 3DFX cards. Oh and btw to the video maker it *looks* like you're running in software mode. To run in glide you need to copy the NFS2SEA.EXE from the CD. :)
