What are mermaids and do they exists

I think there are probably varying degrees of mer-people (if they even exist now). The deeper you go underwater, the less and less they look human due to the extreme environment they must survive in. and they would probably lay eggs to reproduce. They would probably hide from humans, like what most animals do around people, and like most people do around threatening animals. Especially after what they've seen us do to other sea creatures. that just makes sense to me. and probably no super powers

Mermaids could also foretell the future and disaster. I apologise for my ramblings, lol, I just think that mermaids are one of the coolest mythological creatures ever. And I like to think that they exist :)

Here's what I think: maybe some mermaids are beautiful and others not so much; it varies from culture to culture. They have been known to live in underwater kingdoms together far away from humans but some come up to interact with and/or kill humans. Some myths say that they have powers, e.g. control over water and storms. As for child-bearing; maybe the mermaids shed their tail in order to make love and bear children. Or, a more darker side, they drown children to turn them into mermaids. :)

How do they have babies? Easy! Their bottom half is fish so the female lays eggs and the male comes and fertilizes. Or they grow legs on land.

@jaredddixon101 There are Mermen as well, the legend also says that Mermaids and Mermen can take a full on human form when out of the water. How long this form lasts is the subject of debate at this point.
