They ripped off the this design from Killer Instinct, i.e, Pre-rendered 2d sprites in a Pre-rendered 3d environment. Just like they ripped off the Ultra combos from them (Brutality). The only difference is that you can move around in a 3d format and not a 2d one.

Honestly, they're pretty much the same game but with different characters. DA has a better cast of characters to me (a lot of classic characters + Kenshi) but that's a matter of opinion. There are a few extra game modes in TE, but ultimately they are the same fighting engine with 3 overlapping characters. Buy 'em both! They should be cheap enough at this point.
