Hi i am from canada. a salesman came to our house& tricked my younger bro who was living with me at the time, took his signature, which they then used it towards a 5 yr contract which i NEVER approved of. so anyways after 5 yrs of suffering, they sent us some letter to our old house which obviously we never recieved & started the same 5 yr contract at our new house! in the end they ripped us of a total of 19k all by conning us.
&Enbridge's rate was 11.4/cubicM & direct energy charges 42.9/CubicM

I am sorry to hear that this happened to you. It's called Slamming. In the future get the names, times and information in writing for any changes that effect your billing. The reason they waited 3 days or more is b/c by law any contract can be revoked within that 72 hour period by the consumer. the contract was completed and agreed when you did the 3rd party verification call. Unfortunately, the sales rep was misleading but you also have to take responsibility in being naive as a consumer.
What we do is offer fixed agreements, yea if you already have a utilities provider than your on a contract we don't offer contracts per say because customer can opt out any time no exit fee. What we mainly do is help customers were fluctuating and volatile natural gas rates we lock a set rate with an all time low and a price cap just in case the price sky rockets it's really no scam

If you change your mind you have to call and cancel within those 3 days,If you do not call to cancel the switch will occur.You get a rebate form in the mail from a company called MPELL, after you get your 6th month bill, fill out the form and send it in then you'll get you're 250 bucks in an Amex Gift card.

We get the same from Direct Energy here in Canada, Niagara Falls.
I been in my place for 9yrs now, and I have always said NO to these salesmen.
It's not always Direct Energy, sometimes they use different company names.
My wattage is always cheaper than those locked into these 5 yr contract.
Just try to get out of the contract, my mom sent off 4 letters, costing over $20 in postage, and this took her months to get out of.

Hey Paul, I just saw your video about Direct Energy and I feel really bad that people can take advantage of others that are not educated on there energy bill. In Texas that is a huge market and companies like Direct Energy pray on people like you that just dont know how is works. They put you under contract and make you pay whatever they want you to pay! Its just not fair. But there is a solution. You can take control in to your own hand and educate yourself on companies that are not scamming

I just came across this video of how they are scamming canadians, ie Direct & Universal Energy. Some people followed these pitchers and got to residents b4 the pitchers arrived. March 18/2010 Dir. TV said for $65's wuld get me ALL fixed up; installation free. I took the $30 package."1 month l8r" I got a bill for $115's. Upon callng them I lernd they put me in a "more costly" package & of cours W/OUT my consent & obvisly added othr charges that wasnt s'pose 2 b ther. This broke our contract & I told them to "come get their stuff". Its now July 15th '10 still havnt gottn their box & still sendng bills.I st8d this is "fraud & embzzmnt 'n I wuld sue if they didnt remov bill

They are getting people in Canada as well. I know someone who works AGAINST the energy scam companies. If you have problems with them he can help you. He is based out of Guelph and is working to help victims in Ontario.

Hey Dude, No harm no faul means " You need to call to cancel within three business day and if you do not call then you bought the product or services" Direct Enerrgy is licensed by the Public Utility Commission (PUC) This means they are NOT a SCAM. Ask TXU to give up their license. A SCAM is illegal... So call the FBI, They will get rid of SCAMMERS. A SCAM can not offer a rebate or switch your electric bill....Just face it DUDE - you FUCKED UP and don't know any other way to vent.

Hey, actually I am a sale person for Direct Energy.You have it all backwards, apparently you did not listen to the phone call carefully, because you have 3 days to make your final decision. If you change your mind you have to call and cancel within those 3 days,If you do not call to cancel the switch will occur.You get a rebate form in the mail from a company called MPELL, after you get your 6th month bill, fill out the form and send it in then you'll get you're 250 bucks in an Amex Gift card.

Well, Direct Energy seems to be working very well to me now, my bill is reduced due to my price protection that i got for ONE YEAR!
Thats one year paying a fixed rate a lot lower that the normal, dude! That's awesome!
I think you should reconsider, 'cause your bill already came $185 less than it was supposed to, and would continue to come lower if you didn't do the stupid decision not to pay the cancellation fee.
Yeah....i think you def should get a job.
