Have you compared the GT-3000 with the GXL 24Pro. If you're buying gold and a customer brings in a gold coin which happens a lot you really need a tester that is accurate for 24K. There are fake gold medallions from a string of cons out of FL that are selling to gold buyers all across the US even out here in AZ. The medallions are stamped 18K and pass the electronic testers and can only be exposed if you scratch deep into the piece or have strong rare earth magnets. I was alerted by Mesa PD. Thx
@Gold4Giving the GXL pro is a great product, we went with the gt-3000 because we had to buy a whole bunch, and rarely saw items over 18kt. But good point you bring up...if you're relying on a tester for the coins...the GXL made be the best way to go.

I've seen other people using magnets as a first test to weed out the fake gold, what is your opinion?

Yep, starting out with the magnet works very well.

Wont always work, since not every gold filled jewelry has a magnetic base material.
