The ancient Macedonians were Greeks, spoke / wrote Greek & believed in the same Greek Olympiad Gods. Ancient Macedon was yet one more Hellenic Kingdom as the Greek city states and Greek colonies across the Mediterranean. Yes Alexander united all that under his rule, but he too was Greek as he admitted it him self continuously, when he gathered his forces to invade Persia. The Byzantine Empire (Empire of the Greeks) which reigned for another 1000 years was also Greek.

You're right that there was no "Greek" state / country until 1830, for the simple fact that the Greeks had huge empires that spanned from the Mediterranean lake to the Hindu Kush. Alexandrian Empire & Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire).

It was not until the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and the fall of Morea / continental Greece to the Turks in 1460 and Trapezond in 1461, which all that greatness ended. Until 1830, the Greeks called them selves Romaioi (Romans) legacy from the greater Byzantine / Roman Empire. But the western powers forced us to adopt our western name “Greeks” as we were known in the west from the ancient Greek colonies of Magna Graecia in Italy, so that we would not have claims in Asia Minor.

For all the Greeks out there claiming that "Macedonia is Greek".
It is well known that a "Greek State" never existed before 1829. The Ancient City states were conquered by Philip II, king of Macedonia, in 338 BC. And they were never united into a single nation until the creation of the Greek Kingdom in 1832.
Was it not the Macedonians who conquered the Ancient States? How then can ancient Macedonia be Greek?

Because the ancient Macedonians them selves were Greek to begin with. The spoke / wrote Greek, believed in the same Greek Olympian Gods, participated in the Olympic Games (No non-Greek could do so). Every single ancient inscription at the royal Macedonian tombs of Vergina and at the capital in Pella is in Greek. Macedonians were certainly not Slavs with an identity crisis like the poor & pathetic people of Fyrom today who try to steal & fabricate history.
