@sledrunners -- The Valois family looks Brazilian (and their captions are in Portuguese), so it is not surprising their subtropical home climate would make them feel cold here. I live in San Francisco, and our foggy summer weather often drops the temperature to 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius). It is also very windy, so it gets frigid in the late afternoon if you are near the ocean or bay.

In defense of Oakland--which I visit less than once a year--some of it's early 20th cent. commercial architecture actually surpasses anything in San Francisco--old former stores like Sears and Kress, covered with polychrome tiles like nothing over here. I would also recommend the Last Chance Saloon-close to the ferry landing in the otherwise horrible Jack London Square--where you can also see Jack London's Alaska cabin, and then race back to your ferry.

@hedablinka I agree with you. I go to Oakland evey weekeend since my grandma is in Alameda and I love the architecture there. Broadway has improved a lot and we still go to the Paramount Theater. I was a little girl when Sears was still open there.

San Francisco is a beautiful city.. rich and culturally diverse just like the whole San Francisco Bay are is.Alone SF bay is the one the top 10 largest economies of the wester hempisphere. Alone the Silicon Valley is home to the largest computer companies and the most well performing schools in the western United States. How is this city horrible? not at all

Take a walk through Haight Ashbury and you will be astounded by the number of fried 20yr old homeless kids. The city is dirty, there is no parking, the public transport is terrible, the rents are outrageous for a studio, ect..

I am an engineer and the booming professional scene, and de-facto legal marijuana is quite honestly the only thing that makes it worth living here.

@somekidfromtexas What neighborhood do you live in? That sucks dude. The east bay is freaking awesome man. San Francisco in comparison in my mind is horrible. Super expensive with yes, no parking. However, drugs are everywhere so good luck escaping those. And transportation. I take the BART for $17.50 a week. Compare that with a car dude. No comparison. Maybe you just live away from the Bart line in The City. It gets better. I was a conservative. Check that crap in at the door.

Go to Oakland, it is in the San Francisco metropolitan area. It is the most rundown place I've been to, it's almost like going to Eastern Europe in Ukraine or Russia it is so shitty and the streets are filled with cops it's horrible.

im from san francisco and i love it but if ur going to go visit san francisco try to stay away from hunters point especially if ur white, but if u do want to get robbed and shot then i recomend u go to hunters point lol. i got shot there because a had problems with some people from hudson ave.
