  • Leave it to Nova Scotians to show how pipes and drums should sound ;D

  • I love this video ! and music !! hallo from Italy !

  • Here is their history -- it may surprise you.

Old Jack (37 years service in the Canadian Forces)

  • That bass drummer was amazing!

  • that how us highlander do it

  • I salute you! Amazing!

  • hows it goin, eh

gotta love the pride of canada :)

    thanks for sharing

  • great music although they r canadians there scottish blood still runs in their veins its there motherland and halifax is a town in england im english but glad canada is a part of us and we a part of them

  • What's fascinating about the re-created 78th Highlanders from Halifax is that they portray 19th Century Scottish regimental piping and drumming. Note the deep sound of the rope tension drums. This is a sound no longer heard in pipe bands today and has a distinctly martial quality to it. Unlike the jazzy sounding Primier drums which are so popular today. This band is a fascinating living museum piece of regimental pipes & drums. Well worth seeing for this alone as well as their excellence.

  • @waterloo3 Is interesting to me to see how the detail of the drums change the entire environment of the music. With the ones used in modern days, the bagpipes makes you say "Hey what a great music!!!" with the ones I heard in this video you feel compelled to action and die for Scotland, even if is not your country of origin :).

  • well if that wouldn't give an Englishman a heat attacks, I don't know what would!

  • Hail to The Kilted Klingons

  • respect

  • It actually has nothing to do with whatever nationality you may think it is, or from...I was part of this group and am part of the competition band now but not this portion.. It's simply a re-enactment group at Citadel Hill from when the British were stationed in NS from 1869-1871, it's not 78th Highlanders of Canada, it's simply the 78th Highlanders.

  • Most of Canada was settled and developed by the Scottish, ya eejit! The pipers may be Canadian, but the music, and obviously the dress, originated in Scotland! Much of our democratic government was also taken from the Scottish ways. Do yer research, pal!

  • Greetings from Sao Pualo - Brasil ! Congratulations, great video !

  • Cool! Estes Park Rocks in September!

  • You have got to be Scottish

  • CANADA!!!! THE BRAVE!!!!!

  • @Astrotastic12 They are the pride of the Canadians, but the tradition, the drill, the garb, and the tunes they play are Scottish.

  • @Astrotastic12 Ignorance I presume? God bless Canada. Kept us fed in 41-42. Had the pleasure of spending 6 weeks there in ´99.

Wonderful to know there is other people who love a pipe band!

  • Were they at any time tae the Edinburgh tattoo? I'd Love tae see that! Just curious.

  • The 78th kicked Scotlands ass in piping back in the '80s

  • I love U guys

  • This is a Canadian Pipe Band. The 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel) Pipe Band is a non-profit, charitable organization whose members perform and instruct the musical arts of the Highland bagpipe, snare drum and other related instruments. The band has been in existence, under different names, since the 1930s and currently has approximately 60 pipers and drummers playing at the Grade 5, Grade 3 and Grade 1 level.

  • Those drums sound B*TCHN!!!

  • længe leve Skotland det almægtige land

if you don't no what it mean use google

  • Toujours aussi impressionnant...

  • @LexPhilogus well, i dont know anyone who speaks complete Gaelic 100%, because during the British rule over the celtic lands, they discouraged and ill advised the use of Gaelic, so we might never know how to speak every word in Gaelic.

  • i recently joined a group of pipers from the clan maxwell ( i be one of them) and we might not be as good or spectacular as them, but atleast we try to show are heritage.

  • alybagpipe asked your uncle if he knew John (Rocky) Andrews that is my father and also Stu Montgumery, he was with 48 th as well, Stu is my god father

  • Horses and Germans may not like pipes and drums, but both my cats love 'em. I play this once or twice a week, and they both come running. They also like Amazing Grace. Well done brave lads of the 78th.

  • @wrobinson7 I am german and love bagpipes! ;-)

  • @Germanhaggishunter Good. I'm half German myself, and proud of it. My mother's family comes from the Karlsruhe area, and my wife's family comes from Saarland.

  • I am not sure if its true but I have read that even in ancient times scottish wariors used to get in battles with their bagpipes with the intention to boost the moral and scare the enemy with the sound. Some even still used one in WW2 during battle.

  • I am so proud of being Scottish and Irish. I love living in America where I can celebrate the traditions of my forefathers. ^_^

  • I'm ex member of the 48 th Highlanders of Canada regiment in the late 70's

  • @TheBagger57 My great uncle played with the 48th during ww2, after the war he played with the Toronto Police, he was a pipe sergeant. He is still alive and still plays. He comes from the days when men were men, tough as nails. God bless.

  • @alybagpipe Please let him know that a foreign to this land admires him and respect him and for sure know that his a great man.

  • Different bass drum than what we're used to hearing, but I like it. 5 stars :D

  • hmm no not this a similar one

  • @piontro thank god you agree they do they cant do irish dance or play scittish tunes right.

  • Awesome vid. Thanks for posting it. Isn't it unusual to open with a slow march? Very dramatic tho'.

We're gearing up for our second Celtic games here in Cache Valley. This type of opening is a goal to be aspired to.

  • @piontro hahahahaha! pointo, you crack me up, you crazy french canadian, and you try to convince people your polite. for your information im not 18, im 55, married, with 3 kids, and a college degree, and, ive been all over the world, were you pointo, have explored the world through a moniter screen, your alot stupider than i thought.

  • @rahulpower Yeah I know you're just a fucking East Indian, dark and ugly as hell, so keep your comments to yourself, your boyfriend TheDarkestT44 might be jealous of you when hitting on real men.

  • @TheBagger57 your father would likely know my great uncle. My great unc was a piper, the 48th march off the landing craft playing bravely. He was wounded once but returned to full duties.

  • what is the second tune called?

  • @epicbassdude It's called "Lord Lovat's Lament" played as a march, if I'm not mistaken, and the third one is "The Battle of Waterloo", I think.

  • @MrSleepyFox awesome thanks man

  • @MrSleepyFox what's the song after the short interval called, starts around 4:40

  • @epicbassdude "79th's Farewell to Gibraltar"...didn't know that one before but recognised the tune while I was watching another video here on youtube^^

  • @MrSleepyFox thankyou

  • Once Upon a time, if You heard this comin in the distance.. A wise man would RUN...

  • @tedro1962 "Woe be it to the man who hears the pipes, be he not from Scotland." - unknown source.

  • I was suprised to find out the bagpipe wasnt scottish. But who cares, they are the ones that has brought forth its legacy

  • you don't have to be scottish to play the pipes, I don't know why people tend to get that idea. lol I would definently say it's a lot easier if you start a young age, just because the older you are the harder it is to pick up something this complicated and the bagpipes are hard to manage. i started when i was 11 or 12 and i'm very glad i started then :)

  • the drums just sound so powerfull

  • what's the tune at 2:18?

  • De la Classe!

  • very nice, although the quality isn't good

  • the quality is excellent - your hearing is just not so good!

  • Base drum is too loud, ruins the sound.

  • @Norn1993 is it? I don't think so. This is the rallying sound. If I wanted to be rallied - this is the sound I would like to hear. It's like the heartbeat. Just listen to it. Heaven!
