Pamuk is a magician. I've read 3 novels by him and I not only admire him for his artistry but also for his courage in voicing some of the most troubling issues of our times. People who denounce him as "traitor" do not know the ABCD of literature. How can someone doubt his deep love for Turkey after reading, say, "Snow"? Every page of the novel bears witness to his genuine love for his country. It's another thing that for people like Pamuk, as for all sensible people, LOVE is often more nuanced.

What I do have a problem with is; that mostly for political reasons on his views rather than his actual work that he is so well promoted. Aside from everything, the real reason why the Turkish intellectuals dislike Pamuk is simply because he's a plagiarist. His plagiarisms in "White Castle" (see Fuad Carim's translation of Critobal and Villanon's novel) is well documented. Part of his nobel speech is from a novel by Amin Malouf. Even Pamuk's mother admitted that "the bag" he referred to in the speech was just a small purse. It is really unfortunate for a writer to make fame with his political comments rather than his actual work.

I know few turkish guys and they told me that they hate Pamuk, and again the reason was politics and not that he writes bad literature. but I hope (really) that there are turkish people who have guts to face the truth about their own history (every nation have his own black spots on its brave face, even mine and everybody elses) and arent condemning Pamuks books because he tries to speak about it.

yes I am Turkish.I know many Turkish ppl knows history and the truth.Unfortunately we dont have freedom of speech,religion,expression etc.Thats why many ppl doesnt tell openly like O.Pamuk.Starting to join EU some law changed and ppl start to talk about historical reality
