@apalmalarrain Keep experimenting man :) Most people don't know this, but the strings, setup, and intonation are some of the most important things to worry about on the guitar. Can't play a guitar without strings.....can't play a guitar that has a horrible setup due to string height, neck relief/tension, and fret buzzing.....and you cant play a guitar correctly without even a slightly accurate intonation. Things like these matter. Have fun :D
@PrismaticDemi well it all really boils down to preference. maybe your fingers are less corrosive than mine. I like the ernie's just can't keep them on my guitar for more than 2 weeks
@PrismaticDemi I stay in central Texas, I have also lived in Gwinnett County Georgia, I don't think the climate is that much different, but I could be wrong,
@TheRatbeakmafia Georgia is known to be kinda humid, but im not sure about texas lol............never been there. But ehh.......earnie ball super slinky's usually last me about a month before i can tell any differences in playability. But as you said before and i agree..............It all boils down to preferece. Im thinking of trying out some elixir strings too, just because i keep hearing good things about them. as Rob would say.....Cheers Mate :-)
@PrismaticDemi Texas is a strange place when it comes to weather and climates. East Texas is really humid swampy in some places, West Texas is very dry desert climate, South Texas is just downright hot. Central Texas is kinda a happy medium although quite humid and extremely hot in the summer. I'm thinking humidity down here is similiar Tx 2 Ga is a straight line. down south it's just downright sticky, anyway take care, keep playing guitar
@TheRatbeakmafia Thanks for replying, you take care also and maybe one day we'll meet each other in the music industry huh? Good luck man, and to every other musician here :D
I wanted to try out some DR's but there weren't at my local store, so I picked a set of D'addarios. After a couple of days I went on a trip and left my guitar at home. Two weeks later they already sound duller than the earlier string set did after 6 months. I'm not a touring artist so am not going to change my strings every week nor am I going to use strings that die down after a week either. I still want to find DR's ;__;
I've used D'Addario 10s ever since I started playing and I don't seem to have any rust or dull tone problems. Could be the low humidity here or something, idk.
My dad used to buy me D'addario strings because they were like $5 for a whole set. They didn't last me a month cause they would rust and get dull too quickly. I been searching for a brand that would last me months and save me money now
@SilentDestruction900 Aw, my D'addario set sounds pretty dull. I played it for like two days and went on a trip, leaving my guitar at home. Now, two weeks later I believe my former set sounded better, even though it was like 8 months old and played everyday. I don't want strings that go shit after so little time, and I disliked the last set (they were HRS), so what am I supposed to buy D:? Your comment about Dunlops changed my mind..
i played EB's while learning guitar but one day I was curious so i bought a set of D'addario XL super lights, i was amazed how much better they we're. I also play saxophone and I love rico reeds which are also made by D'Addario. All around AWESOME COMPANY!!!!
damn right on all counts man, your definatly a good player, lots of style, really progressive an adaptive, you really put your own soul into what you play even if its somebody elses riff you make it sound like chappers. and you seem like a great guy oozing with charecter and ambition, really wish the best for you and your global domination and whatever else your dreams include.
Chappers what are the chances of getting a lesson with you if i live near guildford? :] I'm not a complete novice I'm just really tryin to get more.... technical laiho/ matt heafy sounds out of my solos. any tips at least? :]
Oh my god DR strings, the cat's knees, the bee's pajamas, they are the best. I use Pure Blues 10's, oh my lord, don't let the name fool you, I use them for anything from Djent to the jazz stuff I'm learning, they feel so good, and I bend the hell out of them, they hold up longer than Rotosound, Ernie ball rock n'roll/nickel steel/stainless steel, D'addario nickel/steel, GHS Boomers, so much sustain, clarity, warmth, smoothness, bite, it's all there. Screw everyone else
Ernie Ball all the way. I love their feel and sound. And I love how as people say here; they don't dull down and wear out as quickly as alot of other strings.
CHOCOLATE RAIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!!!!!! baha! Personally I hate D'Addario strings, they go black where I live far to quickly, as for earnies, they havent gone black on my paul since I got it! 3 months ago ! xD
Chappers, how are d'Addario strings compared to other strings (Ernie Ball, Gibson, Fender, Dean Markley, etc.), with respect to things like tone, length of string life, and other factors like that?
I like Rotosounds the best. I have tried Ernie Ball, D'addario, DR and the Roto's were the best. Second would be DR. The d'addarios always kept getting out of tune and felt really dirty after 2 weeks...The high strings felt like tin, it was terrible...I guess im more of a round core string guy
I like Ken Smith strings ... oh heck ... I'm a bass player ... AND female ... AND blonde. I guess, my global domination will stuck in a fish bowl. It's a fish world ... sniff.
i tried a bunch of different string makes and used ernie ball's strings for maybe 2-3 years. but then i bought a new guitar and i had it's stock strings (d'addario) swapped for thicker ones, and the only brand at that store, that had the string gauge i required, was d'addario! and after playing for a while i felt like they were more responsive, easier to play, sounded awesome and verry surprisingly buzzed only verry softly on the frets. i've been using them ever since for 4 years now. i <3 them
D'Addario and ESP. Those are the two companies I want to be endorsed by. I love the way ESPs feel, simple as that. D'Addario are easily my favorite sting. The work best for tapping, bending and generally wanking shit. I love them.
D'Addario, have a smoother feel than Ernies and they don't snap as much but they dull down quite quick which i hate. Ernies have a bright sound which lasts longer than D'Addario which is the desider for me plus in most shops Ernies have more Gauge options and at the end of the day i prefer playing Ernies.
@resington Ernies do have a bright sound, you are correct about that. However, about a week to a week and a half into their use, they start to dull out. I myself use D'Addario (Blues/Jazz Gauge) on all my 6 string guitars, and have not found a better brand yet. They stay bright and sharp, and can take a beating.
I also use D'Addario on all of my guitars, just sharing the brand as an exampe to check out :)
@truehart Agreed, it's such a subjective thing. Stringing with Ernie Ball's makes guitar playing miserable for me because I think they're so dull right out the packet and I have to dig in really hard to get any crunch. Yet I hear people say the same about D'addario, we all have different hands and ears I guess. I've had my main guitar string with D'addario for 6 weeks and it still sounds bright.
@resington Personally I find Ernies a bit tinny and wheezy for my taste. Maybe it's just my guitars but I find D'Addarios have a fuller body. I prefer them to both Ernies and Blue Steels.
do you think someone could get endorsed by a music shop just by giving them a cd and playing classics while demoing guitars. i seen the cashier stare at me when i played master of puppets in the right tempo. the dude said wow. how old r u. i got 5 free packs of strings.
what were your personal reasons? - and when you were endorsed by dunlop, did they insist you used their srtings, because i love the ultex picks and the mxr stuff but hate their strings..
For Monkey Lord Eb I use 10-42 EXL'S & for Drop C tuning with the Black Hand I use 11 guage, sometimes 12. My Rhythm player Gav uses 11-70 guage, he has to strip off the outer wire to string hi LP.
great advice. I think confidence is the key to everything. One can be a great player and nice guy, but if he lacks confidence he or she won't take advantage of oppurtunities when they are available.
With that positive attitude it's no wonder that the crab horde can't infiltrate your leafy borders LOL...... seriously tho, the world could use more nice people. congrats with ur latest endorsements.
ernies ball coated, elixirs nanowebs.. ive tried those, now its only D'addario left :)

Most companies have a how to on their sites but if they don't then they at least follow this:
1. Contact the company

3. Have reviews from a reputable source
4. Use their stuff or have a great interest in it.

One can be a great player and nice guy, but if he lacks confidence he or she won't take advantage of oppurtunities when they are available.
thanks!
