john arch was fates warning. i am from ct were these guys are from .new haven area. i felt this band with this line up should have been progressive metal icons maybe they were ahead of their time.love all the old fates jim laudano
A truly amazing band, Fates Warning open my imagination to new types of parallel universes ruled by witchcraft and demons. Mark Zonder is a terrific drummer aswell with great off-beats to top it off. 1986 and the entire decade was memorable year for metal and even if there are still many great bands today, it will never be the same again.
love these guys...if anyone has time check out my project orion....very much influenced by bands like these guys, megadeth, anacrusis, amorphis, testament ect...the track we have posted is lies within the lies...its about marshall law being declared and the warning signs that have been telling us for years...its a rough demo so be nice...i truley appreciate all feedback be it positive or negative...i dont have the cash to promote a record so here i am...rockin to a sweet band, promoting my stuff...
1986 has to be one off THE best years for rock/metal music. Here's a list of what I can remember (this adds to Beatrix 13) came out in that year. Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time Metallica - Master of Puppets Bon Jovi - Slippery when wet Slayer - Reign in Blood Boston - Third Stage Judas Priest - Turbo Motorhead - Ogasmatron Meat Loaf - Blind Before I Stop Europe - The Final Countdown There are probably more but that covers a wide a range of rock/metal
FYI ,,Artch - Matheos CD out 4 day.s... reunion ....New Fates to me. Heard it all... great. I think the only reason why Jim Matheos reuinted with John Arch is because he heard how good his solo shit was without him....Play Relentless by John Arch on youtube and you will hear a 12 minute masterpiece.
Oh, come on, isn't it the most incredible song you have ever had the pleasure to listen to? I mean, Arch's voice gives me chills in every single moment, so emotional, so beautiful, so "Fates Warning"...
@diogotomediogo Okay, I will admit, Turbo wasn't a total diappointment. There were a few good tracks. People like to give "Turbo Lover" a lot of crap when I actually don't think it's all that bad. Locked In and Out in the Cold are pretty good to, but "Rock You all Around the World", "Parental Guidance", and especially "Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days" are some of the worst songs Priest ever wrote. I didn't think Turbo was horrible, just overly commercial and inconsistent.
@thefateshavewarned that's better. every judas priest album is unique. and on turbo you can call it commercial, i think the songs there were very original. just look at the sounds of turbo and especially the guitar on locked in
@diogotomediogo That's exactly the reason why I love Judas Priest. Even if I didn't really like the release that they put out, they always try to do something different to ensure that their sound remains fresh and experimenting with new styles and influences helps you see what works and what doesn't. The exact same can be said for Fates Warning, experimenting by combining elements of metal, prog, industrial, and even some new age music. The result is a unique sound that stands the test of time.
This song is truly a masterpiece! Its rare to get a band these days were you can actually hear the emotion and passion in their songs. Probably why im listening to bands like fates warning over any band producing music these days!
Probably John Arch's toughest song on vocals! :D I almost lost my voice in a few places, so I changed octave quickly and dramatically! :D :D I thought I Knew it all!... Heheh! :-)
And I bought that 2 disc set with the dvd like a week after it came out. Loved the rare demos, and live performences, but the dvd was just hard to listen to. I could tell he was good, but the sound was so bad.
@MrEpiclyrandom Oh, I should have made it clear, I knew it was their 3rd album when I recieved it, my friend turned me on to them, so I knew at the time I needed to check out their earlier albums, so I finally did after almost a year of listening to A.t.G
@MrEpiclyrandom I was the same for about 9 months. Listened to this album non stop in my car cd player for close to a year. Then I got their second album Spectre Within and that didnt leave my cd player for about 6 months lol
@deathtoall87 Haha next you're gonna say Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson have voices that are too high for the heaviness of their bands. That argument is invalid. Next....
I remember seeing them on this tour in March of 1987 in San Antonio, TX. The show was called "Party in the Park" and also featured Killer Dwarfs, Omen and was headlined by Saxon. I still have my T-shirt actually. I remember Biff Byford couldn't believe the size of the crowd!
The highlight was FW of course & I remember this was either the last show John Arch played or one of his last shows before he left. Incidently, they found his replacement, Ray Alder obviously, in San Antonio.
and turbo from priest... acctually was not at first a fan of turbo or somewhere in time because both had the synth sound for first time..as i listen i now enjoy both alot but it took awhile for the change to set in...
@Beatrix13 this is this sh@t that music is made of, atleast musicians should realize it, i have one of the largist spand of music from creed, fates, godsmsmack-,zepplen, ect, ect, this was this sh!t if you don't know whats well writen whether it's britney or maiden, don't comment,
Indeed!!! Adding to your list...Accept Russian Roulette, Alice Cooper Constrictor, Black Sabbath Seventh Star, Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet, Chastain Ruler Of The Wasteland, Europe The Final Countdown
Iron Maiden Somewhere In Time, Judas Priest Turbo, King Diamond Fatal Portrait, Kirka R.O.C.K.
And...Motörhead Orgasmatron, Ozzy Osbourne The Ultimate Sin, Queensrÿche Rage For Order
Tarot The Spell Of Iron, Warlock True As Steel, W.A.S.P. Inside The Electric Circus
Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s Rising Force Trilogy, Zero Nine Intrigue...
I have these all. My older friend (40) and I have this inside joke about his musical taste: whatever band in question, his favourite album is always from 1986, no matter what. We laugh at this fact all the time, we both enjoy these albums...
Songs like this are what kept me strong back in the day. There just isn't music like this anymore. Bands today just don't have any idea what it's all about!!!!!
It already fifteen years since I heard this song for the first time. My musical taste has changed significantly since those days... but I still love this song & album. Thanks guys!
I forget how I found this song but it was the one that introduced me to metal ballads which is now my favorite genre.Without this song the music I have written would be nothing. This song molded me to who I am today.
Mike Portnoy himself LOVES Fates Warning. IMO, the five most important prog metal bands are (not in any particular order), Fates Warning, Queensryche, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and Symphony X. Oh, and Death.
The greatest f.w album. Arch was off the hook. The first album with aresti also. Such a perfect record.

Mike Portnoy himself LOVES Fates Warning. IMO, the five most important prog metal bands are (not in any particular order), Fates Warning, Queensryche, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, and Symphony X. Oh, and Death.

@ub3r2008 Lol if Death is prog metal then my top five would be Coroner, Toxik, Atheist, Deathrow, and Xentrix.
