Bradley Manning is not trained in handling classified information. He released documents which could have & probably has cost the lives of people. He swore an oath & violated it. He's a traitor, a fool, and a complete idiot. He will most likely spend the rest of his life in a prison cell and that's too good for what he did. His arrogance is beyond belief. How could he, a relatively uneducated private think he had the wisdom to release this infromation. Those of you who support him are scum.

You're essentially correct. The video in question Manning leaked was one in which the soldiers involved mistook combatants for civilians, subsequently opening fire and killing Reuters reporters. It should be noted, however, that the reporters were mooing surreptitiously across the landscape and carrying a camera that from afar resembled a rocket launcher. The soldiers acted hastily but did what they had do.

@comradebashu You really do not understand what it means to be held in maximum security prison. The U.S. is treating Manning no differently than any other person being held in maximum security. Also the police did not do anything in this video, they just stood there. Any protester getting hurt was because they squashed themselves like idiots against a riot line of police.

But if they're anything alike, than you have been trained never to question your superiors, and to follow any and all orders given, as was he. I agree that some of the personal information should not have been leaked, but what do you do as an officer when a lead officer becomes a madman and no one above seems to care?

If nothing still changes you object to the order and indicate you are unwilling to follow it 4. You request mast. Bradley Manning did not follow this at all, which is why he is in jail and going to be found guilty. BTW training is not brainwashing, you do not follow illegal orders.
@midshippie87 I had been lead to believe, by more than a few officers, that if you object and disobey a direct order from a superior officer during times of war, they simply shoot you for insubordination or treason. I'll add that my father was in the Korean War, and the main hang-out growing up around here was (and is) an American Legion Post. So you can imagine how many stories from veterans I've heard in my life, just by listening while shooting pool or drinking a few sodas. (Continued below)
@midshippie87 (Continuing) Perhaps things have changed in the modern military, but if his superior and fellow officers were insane enough to kill civilians for fun, killing an insubordinate officer wouldn't mean that much to them. So he might not have seen 3 and 4 as an option. You say that you are trained not to follow illegal orders, but many of them did. Perhaps it was from a "pack mentality", perhaps they thought one death was just as good as another, we weren't there and will never know.

@midshippie87 There was a video last week that had mentioned Manning trying to confront his superiors about civilian deaths, and being ordered to ignore it, but I can't find it on the search now. I get the feeling that we won't agree about this issue any time soon, no matter what's said. Besides, I fail to see how whatever you think of Manning changes my argument of the Constitution giving us "the right of the people peaceably to assemble", or that arresting protestors goes against that right.

I didn't understand why the sitters cooperated so much with their own removal. What that demonstration needed was a few 400 pound'ers who knew how to be really dead weight and, if necessary, maintain that even under pain. Do you know how difficult it is to move a 400 pound dead weight that is as flexible as a human being? Six cops at once would have some trouble with carting that person away.

You're essentially correct. The video in question Manning leaked was one in which the soldiers involved mistook combatants for civilians, subsequently opening fire and killing Reuters reporters. It should be noted, however, that the reporters were mooing surreptitiously across the landscape and carrying a camera that from afar resembled a rocket launcher. The soldiers acted hastily but did what they had do.

@comradebashu no, the question isn't whether he should be jailed or not. the question is the presumption of innocence until trial and conviction. you are already convicting him of treason before he's had a trial. under US law, we have to presume a defendant is innocent until proven guilty. the 'overwhelming' evidence you talk about is simply the word of another hacker. i'm not overwhelmed at all with the evidence, but even if it were good evidence, we still have to presume innocence by law

But if they're anything alike, than you have been trained never to question your superiors, and to follow any and all orders given, as was he. I agree that some of the personal information should not have been leaked, but what do you do as an officer when a lead officer becomes a madman and no one above seems to care?

If nothing still changes you object to the order and indicate you are unwilling to follow it 4. You request mast. Bradley Manning did not follow this at all, which is why he is in jail and going to be found guilty. BTW training is not brainwashing, you do not follow illegal orders.

@midshippie87 I had been lead to believe, by more than a few officers, that if you object and disobey a direct order from a superior officer during times of war, they simply shoot you for insubordination or treason. I'll add that my father was in the Korean War, and the main hang-out growing up around here was (and is) an American Legion Post. So you can imagine how many stories from veterans I've heard in my life, just by listening while shooting pool or drinking a few sodas. (Continued below)

@midshippie87 (Continuing) Perhaps things have changed in the modern military, but if his superior and fellow officers were insane enough to kill civilians for fun, killing an insubordinate officer wouldn't mean that much to them. So he might not have seen 3 and 4 as an option. You say that you are trained not to follow illegal orders, but many of them did. Perhaps it was from a "pack mentality", perhaps they thought one death was just as good as another, we weren't there and will never know.

I get the feeling that we won't agree about this issue any time soon, no matter what's said. Besides, I fail to see how whatever you think of Manning changes my argument of the Constitution giving us "the right of the people peaceably to assemble", or that arresting protestors goes against that right.

I didn't understand why the sitters cooperated so much with their own removal. What that demonstration needed was a few 400 pound'ers who knew how to be really dead weight and, if necessary, maintain that even under pain. THAT's the kind of rules we follow in war even today... They are really that strict. There were guidelines that were followed to the letter when those journalists were killed. Plainly put- it was bad luck and negligence on the journalists' part. They should have told someone... and maybe kept their distance from our enemies... because we kill them.

We had a permitted rally ahead of the march. The march to the memorial, as planned and permitted was silent. We moved behind their barricades across the street from the memorial. The five flower layers designated proceeded across the street and then the police changed the agreed upon plan to allow the flower laying. They sat down in the street.
