  • This is the real spirit of electronic NON COMPUTERIZED dance music . Still got the amazing , powerfull sound !

  • not his best, but still good.

  • Is this electro?

  • OK I like it because it has that iconic 808 sound and bass sequencer. But really it's just a fun enjoyable thing (which is what it's supposed to be) and musically very simple, nothing very surprising in it just a fun little record. There's a lot of informed, detailed discussion about this track and that's what I find surprising, considering it is just what it is no more no less.

  • DETROIT

  • I had to make a choice, follow my dream of becoming a record executive or chase the Artist side? As it turned out, I found myself in pretty cool situations on the business side: Capital Records, Sony Music and then Universal. I moved to Atlanta back in 1990 and played a key role in launching Cash Money Records, Nelly & others. My cousin Carl and I still toy around with the idea of me releasing some tracks that I've been sittin' on. We'll see and thanks for the encouragement. Doug

  • Super music !!!

  • This is ery good Can you dance to this?

  • i never heard this little gem before.wicked tune

  • kicking my ass.

  • The singing in this sounds like a combination of vocoder, ring-modulator, and the singer's own voice.

  • @VoiceEncoder I used a Korg-DVP1 Thanks, Doug Craig---Channel One

  • @DougCraigBiz Thank you for the clarification...I stand corrected!! Then it's combination of vocoder, harmonizer, and your own voice! Can the DVP1 do ring-modulator or is the harmonizer not being very harmonic? Here's another recording of the DVP-1...b4qOUbWFfbQ Has been verified by MixxTraxx who made the track!

  • Great Tune and sounds like the Daleks from Dr.Who.

  • Been lookin' for this song FOOOOOREVERRRRRR!!! Glad to find it here. Reminds me of the old basement house parties we used to have. Classice! Detroit fellas down!!

  • 88to92 Electro in LA was from 1982 right to 1989 and even New York had Electro still in 1985/86 with Mantronix and Freestyle stuff and then we got the Miami Bass stuff as well.

  • i love this song soo much! 5/5

  • @RoTheEvil Thank you man. Most of the Detroit Techno producers would stumble upon their beats and riffs. I was a music major and actually wrote out my songs. Thank you for loving one of my thoughts! Doug Craig--Channel One

  • @leblackpoudre You asked what are the Lyrics... Bad reception is not the case, Channel One is behind your face. Close your eyes and realize that Channel One wears no disguise. Turn those dials all across the set and channel one you'll never get. I say Frequency undefined normal tv never find ONE, My concept behind channel one is that YOU are channel one...your brain, your thoughts and not the TV. Now go back and read the lyrics again. Thank you Doug Craig from Detroit, Chillin in Atl

  • MFA Stand up and Represent!!!!!

  • HEAR,HEAR... ; )

  • RIGHT!I'm another native Detroiter and collecting 12"s in those days was like pure bliss. When this track came out it was so busy and full sounding...GREAT...got my copy at DAMONS records on Plymouth Rd.Buy Rite(Music Master)was also the best place to go and find all the classics.I'm Your Audio Tech was out about that same time.Has anyone posted Eddie Fowlkes IN THE MIX on Metroplex?Awesome track right there...

  • I'll post that In The Mix track asap.

Speaking of this 12", does anyone know why this 12" never got a proper release? It was only ever released on limited promo.Perhaps Juan and Eddie had a fall out or something?

  • In 88-89 so many new 12"s were being released at the same time and on so many differnt lables that it seems only the more common hits from the common lables were seeing airtime or club time and this track was about as rare as any at that time. You could only purchase it at select stores and when there gone, that's it...My copy has no promo stamp

then a couple years later I found one with a promo stamp in a second hand store for 50cents.

  • The Eddie Flashin Fowlkes tune on the other hand is rarest of all and the copy that I have came straight from Metroplex studio on

6 mile.I'm not sure if they ever released it to Buy Rite Music Master or not.I never saw it there.Maybe that 12" did'nt make the transition from Metroplex Detroit to Metroplex Macola.I'm sure that only the artist themselves know the history on this one.

  • I think Channel One was Doug Craig and things got a little messy in the "Metroplex" relationship after Technicolor. I think this was a one off that was distributed but "blessed or embraced" - politics? Not sure.

    Who was behind Thunder Records??

  • @artpumpin THANK YOU ARTPUMPIN.... Finally, someone got it right! YES and I mean a BIG YES Mr. Juan and I (Doug Craig) had BIG Messy issues surrounding Technicolor. I had a deal pending with MCA as Channel One and he was desperate for distribution so without my approval, he turned the Technicolor master into Macola which got in my way of being free and clear to do the artist deal. Now That's one for the Detroit History Books.

  • Respond to this video... Thunder Records. My ex-wife "Stacey Ritchie" (executive producer behind the technicolor 12") and I were behind Thunder Records. I started my Label career on the business side in 1986 with Capitol Records and didn't want anyone to know that I was releasing records (that was a gross conflict of interest) and I didn't want to kill my executive career before it could get it started. I ended my music career as a midlevel executive for Universal Records in 2004.

  • @RealFreshBlog

Hey RealFresh... I AM CHANNEL ONE.... My name is Doug Craig. FYI Back in the day, Eddie Fowlkes latched onto the success of my Technicolor Track I guess as a way to get into the game. Oh well...

  • @DougCraigBiz

Thanks a lot Doug for the all the info and stories!!

    Peace and respect

    Leon

  • This record is very much Juan, it came after technicolor. It was around the same time he did audiotech which is on a different label but same owner. This was D-bass records before D-bass was born. However D-bass is still active, They just released a Cybonix 12inch. Same people, Detroit west 7 mile Buy-Rite Records is where it all began.

  • Many thanks D.I.E. for your comment and info! Great to see that the D - Bass records guys are releasing new music again!

    I think I have a few D-Bass releases somewhere("robot!!!" LOL), I'll have to upload a few here :)

    Peace & respect

    Leon

  • @detroitineffect WRONG!! Channel One was 100% Doug Craig (Carl Craig's 1st Cousin). I wrote and performed/recorded Technicolor. Juan co-produced Technicolor with me.

  • @DougCraigBiz @Yoooooooo! I stand corrected, I was misinformed! Thanks for clearing that up but one question, WHY DID YOU STOP???

  • Channel One is great!!

  • Brilliant!

  • very rare & very great.

    thanks for posting.

  • i dunno what u guys are talknig about, but i really wanna know it!! im a techno lover, but i was born on 88... so anything i know about tecno is 00's elektro and 90s trance, what is that technicolor thing?? and who is juan?? hehe thanks!!

  • lol,oh man! r u seriouse?? Well, Juan Atkins is a man who, with two other men(Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson),invented techno!!!Juan Atkins made also alot of electro stuff and Technicolor is one of the most famouse one.

Btw Nor Trance neither electro is techno!!! Techno is simply techno, music based on rythm and repetitivness.Trance has nothing to techno, it has the techno roots, but is distinguish, completely diffrent kind of music.I b.86 so not much older than u,so it isnt an excuse,u r big boy!

  • Find in google "ishkur guide". Its a really good flash site which presents each kind of electronic music in samples. U can see what r the realations bettwen the genres, how they evoluted through years ...and what r the MAIN generes of electronic music

  • i have a problem to distinguish ebm form industrial. I would never said its alike techno. Yep Atkins made more electro than thing alike what we call now techno.

  • That's not true. Context here; Electronic music was around before Kraftwerk and during their peek years during the mid early to late 70's. Giorgio Moroder also had a big influence on Detroit and probably more. He's the king of electronic Disco as well as Stevie Wonder. All is relative, but there are some big distinct differences from House, Electro, Techno etc. But most is Disco influence.

  • its not about sub sub generies. I mean rather the calssic division (techno, trance, house etc.). I think even untreined ear have no problem with distinguish it.

  • It's listed here as Techno/Electro. As in some people consider it electro. Many others, especially from Detroit, consider it techno. It's not listed here as a sub genre, get over it.

  • okay

  • Electro is the original Techno (Detroit) music before the later styles of techno came in from other cities as well as out of Detroit in the later years. Electro aka techno is more like the Electro Funk that was coming out New York during the ealr 80's around the same time. I'm detroit. and remember those years.

  • Also very influential during the birth of techno was a local Detroit DJ on a black station, i think it was WJLB known as "The Electrifying Mojo", who was known to play funk and new wave, thus exposing many to the possibilities...

  • Truely the Greatest Dj of all times was,is-

The Electrifying Mojo...To those that don't know all I can say is imagine your favorite radio stations rolled into one and that was him.He also jumped from station to station which is a wonder how such a visionary could be not signed to a permanent contract and where is he now???The Great one lives on in my soul...Thank You Electrifying Mojo!!!

  • This was a mysterious label release from detroit, not sure Juan anything to do with this one, it was released in 1987, a year after Technicolor...only release on the Thunder Records label

  • detroit jit always like those bpms fast

  • Any time! Thank you for the comment.

  • Many thanks osbornknight for the confirmation! I was 99% sure this was Juan!

  • had it once but sold it regrets

  • I am forever indebted to you :)

Never had I heard this before and it freakin rocks!

  • The voice doesn't sound like Juan - its obviously supposed to be a tribute/rip-off of Technicolour by Channel One (which is definitely him), but the production and beat programming isn't really like his ... could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like one of Juan's. Unknown "one-off" label too, hmmm. Discogs ain't always right.

  • I am sure you're right my friend.

  • Yep, the production sounds more miami (bass) or new york rather than Juan Atkins (Detroit).

    Very, very interesting though :)

  • Listening to it even further LA Electro (years 1983 - 1985) comes to mind aswell.

  • Agree with you there mate.

  • very kool record ,wow1987!? its like a 1982/84 YEARS

  • Reminds me of Cybotron...Alleys of Your Mind....seminal sounding techno. Cool.

  • This is Juan Atkins I think! Discogs also has this listed as being by Juan Atkins.
