You dnt hve to do that u can just cut the aloe vera leaves in good sized chunks with the leaf of course and put it in a plastic bag and the in a refridgerator and it will be good for 4-5 days dnt listen to the comment below me because dey mostlikely dnt hve a grandmother from mexico dat knows a lot about aloe vera
If you are going to use aloe straight from the plant make sure it is used within 2 hours else it starts to deteriorate and get contaminated as it oxidizes like an apple does. Also, there are only 4 aloe types that have healing benefits, the best is aloe barbadensis miller. Obviously if its organic, that's great too! Don't ingest any of the rind or any of the gel that is really close to the rind inside the leaf.
I Bought my aloe leaf for 1 dollar and it was about 10 inches long in my supermarket :D . Trust me you can find it cheaper , just keep your eyes wide open
@Gottax3Nana Mine was organic but I do remember when I lived in AZ it was cheaper there because it grows there. It depends if you are buying organic or non-organic and where you live. But definitely worth it to get it FRESH :)
@EdentiaFarms i live in NY . But do u perfer the organic or non-organic aloe ? (: I Just bought it today to put it on my hair because i heard that it strengthens and grows hair . :D
@Gottax3Nana I try to get organic whenever possible but it is not always available. I feel better knowing the crops were not sprayed down with chemicals. I prefer organic because supporting organic farming is better for the bees who are suffering from overuse of insecticide in everything. Without them we have no crops. And, I also have my own aloe plant. It's not 'certified' organic but I don't use chemicals so its just as good. You can keep a small potted aloe plant in NY.
You can grow your own. I have an aloe plant in my laundry room. Used to grow bigger ones when I lived in Arizona. This leaf I purchased at a natural foods store. Check health food stores or Hispanic grocery stores. I think it was about $4 for a big leaf like that.
@MyWoodenBucket the aloe juice I bought from the health food stores. I drink it every day. You should look that up because it's very healthy. You could extract your own juices but I don't have enough aloe to supply my need for the juice. I put it in the soap because it's also good for external use.
I did not make the soap yet but I will probably use about 2%. Haven't finished writing the recipe yet. I have the aloe gel in my fridge and the rest of the aloe leaf is in my fridge, too. I think I will be doing aloe with Clary Sage Essential Oil and maybe some frankensense fragrance, too.
I just made the soap with the Aloe. for 4lb of oils I used 1.7oz of this aloe gel (blended). I also used 3oz of aloe juice as well. I will take a video of the aloe soap when its done. I decided on a scent blend of Clary Sage EO, Frankinsense FO and Sweet Orange EO. Smells delightful.
My grandma used to have aloe vera plants all over the house. Big fat ones full of gel We used it for cuts burns etc, now i would really appreciate something like that if I had it.
i have a plant and i mix mine with lotion and my face is soft and smooth

Aloe vera grows all over the tropics. Here in the Bahamas, all kinds of bushels grow in people's back yards.
