  • Having an axie of our own, vids like these make watching them (which is irresistible anyway) even more intriguing, even though we already knew they regenerated fast, of course :).

Though the test subject was not an albino :p (its a Leucistic axolotl, albinos lack pigment in the eyes)

Isn't it just amazing how old these creatures have grown, and ultimately even serve us in science after coming such a long way? ♥

  • Isn't that a bit cruel, cutting off tails and legs? I mean, sure, they bite it off in the wild, but...these ones aren't in the wild :( Poor little axies

  • haha. 4:32 BOOT TO THE HEAD.

  • Why another fucking nacionalty have a mexican axolotl there are only in México Xochimilco and even in México is pretty difcult get one.

  • at 4:36 the right one says talk to the hand

  • i;ve never seen an axolotl as fat as the one at :24

  • i think it is marvlous,

  • i would love to regenerate >:D i would be invincible! except if i die when im old ._________.

  • @Ealija no u wouldnt ud be a test subject forever until they find out how to replicate it

  • 5 star hotel!?, they keep em in confined spaces for observing, and it is cruel because the animals do it to eachother, which is natural, not humans doing it.

  • I cant believe that they are illegal in CA. I cant believe the people at the pet store were dumb enough to have on and sell it.

  • "They bite each other, haha" Yeah right, YOU are not one of them so leave them alone.>.<

  • @TsukiShia It's for research, the same thing that recently found out how to give you a new eye if you lose one.

  • @SetAbominaesPower

Then Im so lucky by not needing a new eyeball. If I were. I would refuse.

    This is cruel.

  • @TsukiShia oh boo huu nobody cares

  • @TsukiShia

"I think we can put our differences behind us, for science..."

  • @SetAbominaesPower PORTAL REFRENCE

  • It's cute to see how (and how fast) my axo's leg grows back.

  • I WANT ONE!!! Shit NJ laws....

  • can you keep it in the same tank?

  • @dankyle67 You mean two in the same tank? Yes

  • how does it grow a new heart?

  • @dominantgazelle probably goes dormant till the heart regenerates

  • YEA!!!! GO INDESTRUCTIBLE MEXICANS!!!!!

    i really, really want one.

  • this makes me think of The Lizard from Spider-Man.

  • whoah...if humans learn to do this we could just cut off our feet fry them up and grow a new one.! we'd never go hungry!

I think i'd rather die than eat my food though, i'll eat someone elses! NAMNAMNAM!

  • OMNOMNOMNOMNOM!!!!!!

  • said to have been born when the Aztec god, Xolotl, fearing his immanent sacrifice, threw himself into the water and was transformed into the creature we see today. Perhaps there is some truth to this story because of the amazing, even god-like, powers that distinguish it from its fellow amphibians and other vertebrates

  • 1:10 it is so cute! poor thing when it got cut :^( does anyone know how long they could stay out of water for?

  • i read for a good maount of time cus they have partially developed liungs

  • this must be old. scientists have already created a "powder" to put in wounds. its been used on a guy who cut his thumb off on an rc plane propeller

  • Interesting. Can you provide source?

  • yep, just watched the vid.

  • well to cavenoot, couldn't say it better:)

  • Axolotl´s are so amazing.

  • Alright... So it loses it's heart and then grows one back. What does it do in the meantime? How does it live while it's waiting for the heart to grow back?

  • It can regenerate back heart tissue, so if a portion is removed, it can grow back provided the animal survives the surgery. You can't take the entire heart out and expect the animal to live, but differnt portions can be removed at different times

  • at osamainlederhose: thats completely right! if they keep them and don't know THAT, then wtf? and to tooelow, well, you could, in a rare situation, keep axolotls alive, not nessesairely healthy, in a wet towl. but they couldn't eat.

  • Nah, see the people doing the film, the Max Planc Society is an organization which reports on interesting science and technology. The narrater does not work at that lab, which is probably why he did not know the axolotl was leucistic. I am sure the women knows but she probably did not review his script, also, since the public doesn't know the term leucistic, maybe he said albino

  • Haha, exactly what I thought as soon as he said albino.

  • Man, those "albeeno's" must be really rare because I've never heard of them ;}

  • im watching this video because i just fininshed heroes season 1 on dvd...:P

  • that axolotl at the beginning is leucistic not albino!

  • douse it breath out of water plz tell becouase i got one at home and also i wann try it out side of water

  • They cant survive out of water, they are just like fish so dont even attemp to take them out of the water.
