Joe Lynn is awesome! Ritchie or Yngwie? Ritchie by a mile! I think Slaves and Masters is a very under underrated album. Great songs, impeccable production and Joe was in top form and gave a fresher sound to Purple, with Gillan (with all due respect) Purple was getting kinda old and repetitive.

@Rayrocksloud - I love the record too, a lot of good albums from old master bands fell under the radar in the early 90s largely due to the grunge and pop scene which was favoured in the mainstream. I only discovered Slaves and Masters myself some 10 years after its release. Joe Lynn Turner, of course, is my favourite Purple and Rainbow singer of all time.

"Slaves and Masters" from 1990 often gets dicked by critics, but that effort is tops... "The Cut Runs Deep" and "Wicked Ways" are killer cuts, as is "Fortune Teller."

Ritchie or Yngwie? Both are a big influence one me and I love both of them a lot (and plus I actually like the folk stuff of Ritchie's) but I'm going with Yngwie since not only is he a godly shredder but he basically created power metal so because of that I am in great debt.

Slaves & Masters is indeed one of Purple's best records. Even if you don't like Joe's voice, just listen to the blend of Blackmore/Lord. It is one of their best collaborations. I personally like Joe's voice and wish they had recorded a second album.

How do you take shit for Stone Cold or Street Of Dreams? Maybe because they sucked the life and imagination out of the band and turned them into a second rate Foreigner. If your going to make AOR pop, at least make it good AOR pop. Radio play means nothing. While JLT Rainbow was dominating the charts, Dio and Judas Priest were selling millions of records while receiving little to nowhere airplay. Not one album this cunt sang on was ever certified by the RIAA.
