  • This might be the only year the (Jordan) Bulls and (Ewing) knicks were equal. In 89' the knicks had their best season in like 15 years going 52-30 while among the league leaders in team scoring with solid defense and rebounding from Oak and Patrick, with the run and gun style of G. Wilkins, Mark Jackson, Johnny Newman, Ewing, Kenny Walker, etc. The Bulls only went 47-35 but really started to heat up in the playoffs as they upset Cleveland nd N.Y. and playing Detroit tough

  • The only 30-8-8 in NBA history that season....SCARY...imagine if Pippen and Grant were further developed. Would've been Champs that year

  • @BigCrockDawg

    Exactly..

People don't realize that Magic Johnson's BEST season for total # of triple doubles is 18.

MJ almost bested that total in '89 with 15 triple doubles, and he only played the remaining 20+ games of that season at pt guard LOL!!

Just imagine what he would've done had they played him at the point for a substantial amount of time that season...

  • @ilovegod300

Agreed. But MJ proved to be a little too much.

  • @ilovegod300

Yes, and that Game 6 in 1989 was very similar to the Game 6 in 1993. They had to close it in Chicago, or face a loud New York crowd. Many elements of the Knicks were different at this time; there was no organ for the "Defense" chant, and instead of John Starks at the point, we had Mark Jackson.

  • @ilovegod300

Yes Riley did take credit for the Knicks' wrestlemania defense that made those series so exciting. Both Bulls and Knicks fans long for those days.

  • @travellinman321

    "And1 isn't real basketball"

    No argument from me..

    "you're comparing And1 to NBA"

    Yep, and here's why:

"Our rules are [designed] to [allow] players to [penetrate] for [high percentage] shots. This has [allowed] for [more] high quality [perimeter] shots as well, because of how much [easier] it is to penetrate [today]."

-- Stu Jackson, VP of NBA Basketball Operations; "Stu Jackson Presents", NBA . com May 3, 2007

That's what's CREATED the "individualistic" NBA plays today

  • What a stupid shot by Jackson with :05 on the clock. Damn, if I had a dollar for every time that the Knicks choked in the 4th quarter...

  • See that at 4:30 is what teens today just don't understand about MJ, he's so smart when he's gonna get double teammed & knows where to move. He went right spinned to the left then splits the 2 defenders & he makes a contested shot. When kobe gets double teammed & the teen today say "wow he's goes through stuff defenses, better then what MJ went through". Heck no, kobe just doesn't have the IQ MJ has when it comes to gettin double teammed. MJ just makes the defense look like it sucks.

  • What a pass from MJ at 3:45 his passing skills r so underrated.

  • Ah yes, the blown Cartwright layup at 6:27. I remember my dad and I went ballistic at that. The memories...

  • at 1.35 is prove.. my can get 50ppg or 60ppg. a season if he want to, so today game he might got 70ppg.

  • A prime MJ would certainly avg close to 40ppg in this era LOL!!

Him being the most VICIOUS attacker of the rim in history, while having the ability to PERFECTLY balance out his drives with a deadly mid range game, post-ups, catch-n-shoot & off the ball movement, he'd be a NIGHTMARE to guard in this era..

CBS Sportline's shot chart PROVED that today's elite wing players scored the MAJORITY of their pts INSIDE 15 ft last year..just imagine MJ circa 1988-93 under these rules LOL!!

  • Jordan was awesome!!! He is like 100 times better than today's basketball players!!!

  • 1989 was the start of a great 10 year rivalry between the Knicks & Bulls

  • Classic MJ

  • Knicks had plenty of chances to win this game. Didn't Jordan go without a score for like twenty minutes? Even when Jordan wasn't on the court, Knicks couldn't do much. Mark Jackson rushed three point in regulation was probably the dumbest shot of his career. Even Pitino grimaced after it.

  • ROTF @ Bill Cartwright.Too funny

  • Jordan's court awareness is unmatched. He is always able to find an opening on the court to get a good solid jump shot off. He is truly an unstoppable force on the basketball court the only way to guard Jordan at the time was to send the entire team to guard Jordan. Thats how good Jordan was if the entire team started to collapse on Jordan he found the open man for a jump shot or an easy layup. Jordan truly is the GOAT.

  • Lol Bill Cartwright at 6:23 is the funniest shit ever.

  • The 89 playoffs was my favorite Jordan playoff year. It was the deepest run he and the Bulls had to this point in his career, and the beginning of MJ being universally acknowledged as the best in the game, separating himself from Bird and Magic. His stat lines that year were amazing. Holding Mike to 30 was a victory for the opposition that year!

  • yes i agree and i think it showed people how badly MJ wanted to win that it wasnt just individual performances he cared about he wanted a championship just as bad as Magic Bird and Isiah

  • This series is very underrated, and I consider it the beginning of the Bulls-Knicks rivalry.

  • It was the start of the rivalry, some people say it was 92 but I say it started even earlier when the Bulls traded Oakley to NY for Cartwright

  • bill cartwright is much greater than michael jordan....for real. zikeee!!!

  • Jordan's sense of where the open spots were on the court is unsurpassed in NBA history imo. In addition to the ridiculous sequence from 4:30-4:38, look at the series of cuts he makes from 9:03-9:10, including the quick move to avoid the potential trap once he received the ball, and then cutting the angle on Ewing to the basket. GOAT.

  • All you guys who are doing a great job in compiling MJ's work...thanks so mcuh !!!

  • You're welcome..

  • michael jordan was a hawk fuck all your 'getting everybody involved shit' thats what everybody says

  • Get the fuck off of my channel with that ignorant ass shit...

All homers, ignorant posters & uninformed fanatics get shown the door on this channel..

  • My thoughts exactly........

  • Ha ha ha idiot Mark Jackson, the eternal poster boy of MJs dunks as a knick & pacer. No wonder he licks Kobe's balls to bilittle MJ's GOATness & greatness.

  • What does that "Divx" logo at the bottom right mean?

  • It's just the logo of the program I use to rip 'em from DVD format to DivX format to upload to YouTube..

  • johnny newman was a good player. he got overshadowed by ewing, mark jackson, g. wilkins, oakley, etc. NY should have kept him.

  • Yeah he was..

  • This is classic!

  • Had this game on VHS back in the day. Jordan got his first playoff triple double in this game. This was the year Bulls made it to ECF against Detroit. Bulls were not favored to win against Clevland or New York that year. Man those were some great games.

  • why didn't they kept Mark jackson ?

  • I'm too lazy to look this up, but the Knicks never once eliminated Jordan from the playoffs, did they?

I know '86 the Celtics beat them, and '89-'90 it was the Pistons, but did the Knicks ever manage to do it? If not, that's hilarious...

  • No..they didn't. they managed to best them in Game 7 of the '94 Semis, but that's the year MJ was on his retired/baseball hiatus. But while he was in uniform, the knicks 'Never' eliminated a MJ-led Bulls team from the playoffs..

  • Also the 85 Milwaukee Bucks, the 87 Celtics, and the 1995 Magic

  • Yeah that '85 Bucks Team was DAMN good..'87 Celts..there's resume & record speaks for itself. The '95 Magic Team were good too. I know alot of people don't like to give them their just due, but hell, they made it to the Finals. They were Swept, but they were good. I can't take anything away from them.

  • For everyone on here, watch out for this user named shabeki. He tends to leave moronic comments on people's pages. He's not the brightest guy in the world, but his idiotic comments are highly annoying.

  • Smooth as silk.

  • That last comment was very lame.

  • Basketball is a 15 man or more game..in other words, a team game..just like the other 3 major sports..Jordan knows that, it's why he's the greatest the sport has ever seen.

  • His 48" vertical leap is unofficial. It was probably much higher than that. My guess is that it was around 53".

  • Yeah that's true..

  • If Jordan wanted to, he could have been a great wide receiver in the NFL or a great politician.

  • With 4.3 speed & a 48' vertical leap. I'd think so too..

  • man jordanlover i know you are gonna comment on that move on 4:30 haha. it is amazing how he could split the defense anytime he wants, i mean anytime.

  • haha cartwright...he is a funny player like that.i mean he is 7ft tall, should have no problem dunking the ball at that point, ewing didnt touch him hard enough to distrub the shot..

  • 8:37 I remember seeing that move on his movie Michael Jordan's Playground

  • Good game...thanks

  • The game after "THE SHOT"

  • Holy cow @ the sequence from 4:30-4:38. Wow. Dude always knew where to get to on the floor (and how to get there) for a good look, no matter the defensive pressure.
