I have a really bad fake of "Spirit Tracks". The cartridge is all bowed up, like it has a bubble in it...The manual is hilarious. It is literally the review for the game, lifted directly from the NINTENDO LIFE website, pictures and all! I did only pay $2 for it, and it does "work", but only worth having as an oddity. Cool translucent box, though.

There's nothing worse then finding a game you maybe have spent years looking for and when you get in your mailbox, it turns out to be a fake with the cover that is just a mess and the game just barely working.
Good thing I never experienced that, other then the one time I bought True Crime 2 for my PS2 and the desk clerk at EB Games, as it was called back then, accidently put in a preowned cd of the game instead of a brand new one.

I've been victim to several fakes but I think they've all been GBA titles. One was a Bomberman Max and then a few Pokemon's as well.
I've knowingly bought tons of 8-bit fakes but when you get conned with one it's not cool at all. Is that the first time you've ever received a bootleg game (Aside from those few famicom carts)?

Great video James. Bootlegs suck and it's even worse when you receive something that was clearly described as something else entirely. Never had that problem exactly but remember buying Donkey Kong Country 3 on ebay but ended up getting DKC 2 and had a bit of a conflict with the seller saying I was trying to scam him but he was wrong and got refunded and then eventually bought it from someone else.
Its only happened to me a few times which is lucky as I have thousands of games. I get really wary with GBA games though. It took me 4 attempts to get a genuine Pokemon Emerald from Ebay.
ive had a fake ds game off e-bay which really pisses me off, so i reported them to nintendo and sent them the game.
I got a thankyou letter some 100 nintendo points and a genuine copy of the game back. (the game was mario 64 ds) i was very impressed with the way they dealt with things. :o)

And as a seller I do the same, I put tons of pictures and info. I had the bad luck of buying even a fake handheld back then.

The reason I have stopped buying handheld games from net/ebay is because I would get a lot of fakes. I haven't gotten a fake ps1 game ;-D But after I hit a total of 30 fake Nintendo GBA carts I knew it was time to stop buying from those places.
I no longer collect gba games because fakes will kill the resale value. Just too many fakes out there

@Chipsturs When you play 4 hours into Legend of Zelda the minish cap and save the game only to turn it on the next day and the save is gone!!! Yeah I would say you start looking into if the cart is fake so I found a few guides on this and started checking my GBA carts. I have 22 fakes to be exact, they are worthless & I can't resell them.

Really got to watch yourself with purchases made online as there are pirate copies everywhere - i've encountered a couple in my time and it's a drag to say the least. It isn't fool proof of course but these days I tend to limit my purchasing to sales that have pictures rather than relying on an item description.
@bluetonic78 You've made some very good point there mate, especially as i only had one photo to go on, it wasn't that clear and i also made the mistake of not looking closer for the official seal across the front.
For older game boy games i can spot fake game easily. At 4:41 i see fake game, and background on game card is different i mean writings, and i noticed, that this hole (don't know how it's called) on the right side in this video is different than on original. I am pretty sure that those pins are in silver color (fake) and not in gold color (original). I can't see the pins because you smashed it :-) I hate pirate games.

@Chipsturs It's the NES Version of Castlevania, it's a lighter grey than a normal GBA game and I haven't been able to play it yet (not sure if it even works).

Don't worry,your not the only one ripped off.I got screwed 2 times on eBay for the same thing (a SMS model 1).The first time all contents inside was shattered in small pieces and the second one did not have a cartridge slot inside.

The same thing happened to me when I bid on and won a copy of Castlevania: ooe.
When I got it, I instantly recognized it as a pirated copy. Alas, I feel I can´t take a hammer to it as I payed the equivalent of 33£ for it...
I still get pissed off every time it catches my eye.

HOLY CRAP THIS HAPPENED TO ME! I ordered a Zelda game on GBA off ebay for 4.99 (I should have known then) Got it in, the label was fake and the game fell apart!

@Captain8Bit Geeeez by the looks of things i might be bringing out Mad James alot more often then, as it seems there are quite a few of these about.
