ok maybe a stupid question so dont please don't go flaming. My e30 (325i m tech 2) has a fan behind the radiator. Do these new engines dont need this or something? I dont get it. Dont they get to hot?

@wbi007 Two electric pusher fans in front would work. You might need one for the radiator and one for the A/C. I have not seen a close enough picture to tell.

no the only M5 to have a v8 was the e39, the e34 had the last S38 legendary straight 6 racing motor in it, there was a 3.6 and later a 3.8 for the euros and the world, the U.S only got the 3.6 version :-(

Unfortunately, its already been confirmed. Its a 4.8L version of the 550hp V8TT that's in the X5M and X6M. It should make around 600hp and 550ftlbs. Great numbers and it should be faster than the current M5 but the overall character and throttle response will differ greatly from the n/a engines. BMW M sold out for increased profit and marketing.

Of course the E30 would win. It has a better power/weight ratio. Considering it's smaller and two less doors, so less metal is being used. It would beat the M6 too. Again, smaller, lighter, less lead being used.
