  • I have just started watching the dvds and am utterly entranced. What a brilliant little series. Now I am going to read the books. Thanks for creating this compilation. Au Reservoir x

  • Two fabulous series, and so true to the original novels, all of which I've read several times. When I need to be in a comfort zone, I pull out my two boxed sets of DVDs. I taped the first series when it was on PBS in New York back in the mid-80s, but little did I know that the presentation was slightly edited, or that there was a second series, until the late 90s. Absolutely flawless in all departments, and you've done a lovely montage featuring highlights.

  • great video ^_^

    I'm reading book now.

and just finished watching the last episode - pure genius!

Lucia and Georgie are the best <3

  • There simply isn't enough of this sort of quality tv around these days.

    Everyone in it was brilliant.

  • I love Mapp Lucia so much that I've got the dvd, books, audio CD,(read by Miriam Margoyles) & I've done the 'pilgrimage' to Rye!

  • This was such a great series!!

  • My other favorite series is 'Keeping Up Appearances'. Oh, and 'To The Manor Born'. Can't forget that one. Only the British can do comedy like this.

  • I think I've fallen in love with Geraldine McEwan!

  • Molto Bene!, Gratzie Mille! Really Wonderful!

  • A perfectly well done job in editing great clips of my very favorite series ever. Thank you!!!

  • Can you please post the series? I can't find it anywhere.=( Thank you.

  • This series was every bit as funny as the books.

I had to stop typing I was laughing so hard just remembering.

  • Thank you for this delightful bunch of clips.

  • Thanks for posting this gem, just finished Reading Mapp and Lucia - molto fantistico. This should be repeated on TV.

  • Love it, love it, love it and never tar-some

  • love it!!!!!

  • Thank you for this little tribute! I am re-reading the Lucia series this summer.

  • E.F. Benson would have loved the series I'm sure. I loved his books and to see this so beautifully done is transcendant. Thank you for putting this on. Here is to Lucia!!

  • too many great scenes to mention, but i loved it when "blue birdy" died and susan wyse wore it (was it as a brooch or in her hat??). the look on lucia's face when she first saw it. i also remember mr. wyse (with his bowing and nodding) congratulating someone by tapping his teaspoon against his china teacup and saying "felicitations". and not to mention poppy sheffield's adoring look at georgie's beard!!! will put those scenes up here soon!!

  • A brilliant tribute my friend,to my favorite TV Series of all time...!!! From video to DVD,to the books,to me once joining the "Tilling society in Rye.. and then visiting all the series locations, I,ve always been a total fan..!! Dont think it should ever be re-done....on film or tv ever again..it was perfect the first time around..!! but alas all too short..!! So wished they had done more back then maybe from the Mr Holt books..
  • Thanx for the share, shum. I can see why you like the series so much.

  • I'm just afraid that if they did do a film they would make everything too glossy & glamorous. Only the Brits can do tongue in cheek comedy like this, wrinkles & all.

  • The only problem with the series was that it was much too short.

  • @viking1938 Yes so tar'some when somthing like this is so short.

  • How we have enjoyed these DVD's and books. Every bit of them is a delight. It's just so tarsome that there isn't any more of it....Au reservoir...

  • More, more, more!!! I've just finished the books for the umpteenth time!

  • Wasn't it wonderfully filmed? Must dig out the videos again. Geraldine McEwan was superb. I've been using most of her lines ever since. Au Res.

  • Yes, Geraldine McEwan was perfect. I only hope she had as much fun being Lucia as we have watching her.

  • I love how details from the books are included, but left unmentioned. Little gems like the chintz rose trim on Diva's outfit make me scamper off to reread the stories!

  • Perfect!

    I love it soooo much!!

  • I really enjoy this show. I always laugh at how effeminate Georgie is and yet is somehow accepted by everyone else as straight. Does this make Lucia a fag hag? I really find Mapp to be annoying and love watching her get put into her place by Lucia. I have not read all the books by Benson, but this will indeed be on my "to do" list!

  • Georgie IS very effeminate, but I don't really think he is homosexual, I think he is more asexual, or just "Georgie". In the books, he "loves" Olga Bracely, and, of course, he is devoted to Lucia, but I think anything of "that horrid thing which Freud calls sex" is in a different universe from his mind.

The whole thing is wonderful, though. You NEED to read the books.

  • A CLASSIC

  • I wish a film could be made of the books, perhaps including Lucia in London and Miss Mapp. Who would play them now.

Would the same actress's still do it?

  • Well the same would be too old!

But really, the casting (sans Olga Bracely) is perfect. I don't think it could ever be topped!

  • A feature film would be fun! with maybe Miranda Richardson or Kristin Scott Thomas as Lucia, maybe Cate Blanchett as Olga Bracely, Tilda Swinton as Quaint Irene, maybe Imelda Staunton as Mapp...what about Stanley Tucci as Georgie? He was fetchingly dapper in 'Devil wears Prada' But to be honest the series was so well cast it would be really hard to top it...maybe even Dawn French as Susan Wyse??

  • What a smashing idea. Your choice of actors are spot on. (Imelda Staunton as Mapp = YES). Perhaps Miramax would be the company to produce it ? Au Reservoir.

  • I seldom get past the sight of Lucia pertly skipping (at :16 seconds) before I'm laughing so hard that I have to hit Pause.

The series--both book and TV--are sheer perfection in every detail.

"I feel like August 1914!" Love it!

  • Never have I seen a more faithful adaptation.

A brilliant dramatazation based on a very entertaining series of books.

  • I have these on DVD, I have read the books time and again, ditto the DVD's. This dramatisation was fantastic, perfect casting, and incredibly faithfull to the books. Love it.

  • Please please please post more clips. I had the dvd box set several years ago and lost it when I moved to Spain. How I miss this series.

  • Wonderfully accurate hats and costumes, in beautifully accurate colours too

  • its some time repeated on uk drama and

    itv 3

  • I watched this as a kid, then read all the books! My favorite! Post more!

  • Please will someone post the series or one episode - I know it was not a typical kids thing to watch but I loved it!

  • lets have more. It was also the last peformance of the late, great Irene Handl who played a delightfully dotty duchess.

  • nice edit, i've read the tom holt additions, very enjoyable they are too.

  • Oh! more of this please, it's such a delightful tickle! I love Geraldine and Nigel. They are so camp together. :D

  • A lovely interruption to my embroidery! And now back to it ... how it does wahrk me.

  • Wonderful to this Mapp & Lucia again after all these years. Does anyone know the name of the theme tune from the television series? Thank you

  • Very well done, very skilfull, Mapp and the whole of Tilling have helped to keep me sane over the years, if you have a stressful day, put on the dvd and sink into the wonder of yesteryear and the world is put to rights again oh and I could not imagine anyone else except Geraldine playing the part of Mapp, again many thanks.

  • molto benne !!!

  • Molto behne !!! Hope you dont mind....im putting this out on live video

  • I love the program. The scenes I especially enjoy: "..the obituary of Dame Catherine Winterglass." "Ohh.." "Then you've heard of her!" "No"; "Dye it." "Dye it!?"; "The iron monger is here, ma'am. He says he'll have to put in extra large screws, seeing as how-" (quick glance at Mapp) "-the other ones were pulled out."; "They sleep in the big bedroom, overlooking the street - together!"; "It's a letter from him. Shall I read it to you?" "Of course! Don't be so silly." I could go on and on.

  • absolutely fantastic programme, showing on itv3 at the moment. only the boooks are better! has anyone else read the two extra books by Tom Holt? they are also fantastic

  • Great series much missed! Such thinly veiled evil!! Rye, Benson's inspiration for Tilling, is beautiful and many of the series locations are instantly recognisable.

ITV3 are reshowing the series and the DVD is easily available on ebay.

  • P.S. I think Geraldine was the perfect elegant Lucia and Prunella the perfect frumpy Mapp, and I mean that as a compliment of the utmost acalade to both these fabulous actors!

  • thanks! i never get bored of the program or the books. There's so much I use from it everyday! I'm even called quaint irene on myspace at the moment. Molto bello!

  • Dawnbreaks, if you ever go to Rye, most of the houses on Watchbell St or smalle streets nearby will be recognisable to you, particularly Swan House which was used as Mallards. If you have never been then do go if you can, I can promise you will not be dissapointed, it's beautiful! I stayed at the Hope Anchor Hotel AKA the Traders Arms.

  • thanks! My parents have been, so it's my turn next!

  • Thank you so much ! Personaly I would have prefered Penelope Keith .Your editing was a masterpiece . As ex Tillingite it was a great pleasure to discover such a treasure , Thanks again .
