Arnel is about as close a match as you'll ever find to a voice as gifted as Steve Perry. Steve however, has much more treble in his voice. He has a clarity and intonation that I've never heard in another singer. He has one of those singular voices that will forever be imitated but never replaced. Karen Carpenter had a voice like that.

By the way, great job djmixer7. What people are refering to as different sounding is the high end of the older version is crisper than in the newer version. Listen to the cymbal sounds as well as Schon's jams. No doubt they are both cd quality, but definitely one was just mixed with less emphasis on the higher freqs. Thanks for putting this up here...

It's hard to compare a studio recording with a live one. Someone singing as themselves is naturally going to sound better than someone trying to sing as someone else. Arnel's voice may be crisper and cleaner, but Steve's is just so much more soulful and mature. He is the standard against which Pineda, Augeri, Soto, etc., are measured against. Frankly, the only Journey song that I though was really great after Perry was Remember Me, and that would have been better if Perry had sung it. Great job!

I, personally, think that the sound too similar to compare. The quality of the music itself in this video is off. It'd be much to better to compare if the quality of the Arnel recoding was clearer. Therefore, it's kind of impossible to compare. However, the transitions were AWESOME! It was as if somebody was just playing with the soundboard while one person was singing. Great job, man!
