i've been a big fan of jack pickford for many yrs; i always check 2 c if any other of jack's pix have been posted, "brown of harvard" is 1 of his best, post that 1.
It's notable to note that Vincent Price played "Dr. Malcom Wells" in the 1959 remake of "The Bat" from 1926 which is the inspiration for Batman, who played Egghead on the 1960's Batman tv show and later in 1990 played "The Inventor" in Edward Scissorhands by Tim Burton. Wow, I just linked The Bat, The 1960's Batman tv show, and Tim Burton's Batman in an entirely different way.
yep! or, one of them at least =) other films that inspired Bob Kane were 'The Mark of Zorro' for example, and 'The Man Who Laughs' for the character of The Joker (both on YouTube as well, if you'd want to check them out ^^)
@IMZEECATMAN From Wikipedia's article on Silent Film: "Showings of silent films almost always featured live music, starting with the pianist at the first public projection of movies by the Lumière Brothers on December 28, 1895 in Paris. From the beginning, music was recognized as essential, contributing to the atmosphere and giving the audience vital emotional cues."
Does anyone else want to see a crossover where "The Bat" comes to Gotham and has to fight Batman? Perhaps even in the beginning, Batman is getting the blame for the robberies?
This is COOL! thanks for posting it! It looks like Batman to me!.. Actually the Bat looks more like the"Fliedermaus" from the Tick..who was inspired from Batman,so I guess it just worked its way full circle. Great movie! I like the use of model sets and the special fx. ...At 5:17 you even get subliminal Obama campaign propaganda 83 years early!
I cant beleive someone would say it had nothing to do with Batman, this is the very movie that inspired the Batman look he has grapling hooks bat signals it all screams of Batman.I would love to get my hands on this and the sequal.I beleive this is the unofficial first Batman movie.
Really so a masked man dressed in a Batsuit.didnt seem at all familiar to our beloved DarkKnight.listen Im not Knocking Bob Kane and bill finger hey if you have an idea run with it.and he already admitted this movie inspired Batman.I just want to get my hand on this movie both the first and second so I can add it to my Batman collections
You can say that again. Be sure to see "The Man Who Laughs" (as posted by this same user) for more rampant Kane "borrowing" of another familiar character.
i've wanted to see this movie for a long time, . jack pickford had a very interesting life, there is a video bio on him that came out ten years ago, very good. check it out if you can find it, his troubled personal life, another tale of drink, drugs, hollywood ruin, early death. check "taylorology" for lots of mention too. .

Definitely one of the better versions of this story. The Bat's mask is outstanding.

you should have laid the soundtrack from "The Dark Knight" over this.

@jokerburnsgotham Danny Elfman would be more exciting his score from 1989 Batman

Find a suitable track and play it, alternative get the piano out and accompany it yourself :P
vaudevilleUK 2 years ago 2
@GeonRevolution most silent films soundtracks were done with live orchestras that would play in the theatre for every screening.
andgalactus1 1 year ago
@GeonRevolution silent films don't really have music. youtubers just add that to make it less boring.

This film the AVGN says on his Cinemassacre's Bat-A-Thon was considered the very first "Batman" movie, bar none!
Bob Kane made the idea of creating a character and the rest is history.

Also read 'Partners in Peril', a story from The Shadow magazine that was likewise 'borrowed' to form the first Batman comic script.
