  • @GeonRevolution they used to play that live in the theater , but its lost

  • It's available WITH music score from Sinister Cinema.

  • who's the unknow

  • i've been a big fan of jack pickford for many yrs; i always check 2 c if any other of jack's pix have been posted, "brown of harvard" is 1 of his best, post that 1.

  • the is the most silent movie i've ever seen. no music at all or sound effects or anything.

  • what I find weird is that in the main credits of this silent film it says original score, but how can their be an original score if theirs no music?

  • Definitely one of the better versions of this story. The Bat's mask is outstanding.

  • you should have laid the soundtrack from "The Dark Knight" over this.

  • @jokerburnsgotham Danny Elfman would be more exciting his score from 1989 Batman

  • @jokerburnsgotham i did that

  • Is there a score to this silent film?

  • wow I had no idea this was here! Thanks for the film

  • Is there any music?

  • This is amazing.

  • It's notable to note that Vincent Price played "Dr. Malcom Wells" in the 1959 remake of "The Bat" from 1926 which is the inspiration for Batman, who played Egghead on the 1960's Batman tv show and later in 1990 played "The Inventor" in Edward Scissorhands by Tim Burton. Wow, I just linked The Bat, The 1960's Batman tv show, and Tim Burton's Batman in an entirely different way.

  • I know this is silent, but could you have at least added music in? I feel like i'm deaf.

  • yep

  • before there batman there was the bat that is were batman came from

  • James Rolfe's Bat-a-Thon :) That's why I'm here.

  • question. where is the sound?

  • @neowarrior1

its a silent movie, 1926 you fucking idiot!!!!

  • reason i'm here is because i want to see every single horror movie ever made:D

  • the only reason everbody is watching this becuse this is in some way the first batman movie

  • I wonder if Ronland West and Adam West are related lol.

  • @NIMPAK1

I also wonder if Richard Fleming is related to Ian Fleming.

  • This is actually the first batman if you think about it.

  • I know its a silent film but there aint as many subtitles as the normal silent film

  • Huh, I guess this was literally a "silent" film. Oh well, interesting enough.

  • I heard this was the movie that inspired the maker of Batman to make, Batman. :P is it true ?

  • Probably.

  • aye

  • Yeap! I just read it in the bathroom reader. Thats why I'm here lol!

  • yep! or, one of them at least =) other films that inspired Bob Kane were 'The Mark of Zorro' for example, and 'The Man Who Laughs' for the character of The Joker (both on YouTube as well, if you'd want to check them out ^^)

  • Yeah its true. but it was actually the remake called the Bat Whisphers that inspired him, but yeah

  • I know this is a silent film but where's the music?

  • Find a suitable track and play it, alternative get the piano out and accompany it yourself :P

  • @GeonRevolution most silent films soundtracks were done with live orchestras that would play in the theatre for every screening.

  • @GeonRevolution silent films don't really have music. youtubers just add that to make it less boring.

  • @IMZEECATMAN From Wikipedia's article on Silent Film: "Showings of silent films almost always featured live music, starting with the pianist at the first public projection of movies by the Lumière Brothers on December 28, 1895 in Paris. From the beginning, music was recognized as essential, contributing to the atmosphere and giving the audience vital emotional cues."

  • wasn't there a remake with Agnes Moorehead in the 50's?

  • the one with agnes moorehead and vincent price was a remake of a different "bat" from the '30s with bela lugosi.

  • Does anyone else want to see a crossover where "The Bat" comes to Gotham and has to fight Batman? Perhaps even in the beginning, Batman is getting the blame for the robberies?

  • This is COOL! thanks for posting it! It looks like Batman to me!.. Actually the Bat looks more like the"Fliedermaus" from the Tick..who was inspired from Batman,so I guess it just worked its way full circle. Great movie! I like the use of model sets and the special fx. ...At 5:17 you even get subliminal Obama campaign propaganda 83 years early!

  • thats spooky. good spot.

  • I cant beleive someone would say it had nothing to do with Batman, this is the very movie that inspired the Batman look he has grapling hooks bat signals it all screams of Batman.I would love to get my hands on this and the sequal.I beleive this is the unofficial first Batman movie.

  • bob kane said it was his inspiration to create batman

  • Bob Kane said the 1930 remake of this film, "Bat Whispers" influenced him.

  • HomeoftheGoodGuys, this isn't a Batman movie. It inspired Bob Kane, but it has nothing to do with Batman.

  • Really so a masked man dressed in a Batsuit.didnt seem at all familiar to our beloved DarkKnight.listen Im not Knocking Bob Kane and bill finger hey if you have an idea run with it.and he already admitted this movie inspired Batman.I just want to get my hand on this movie both the first and second so I can add it to my Batman collections

  • this movie inspired Bob Kane to create batman

  • Many silents had scores and unfortunately they were lost so they added new music to the films

  • I demand this movie be re-re-remade.

  • Thanks for putting this on here, Netflix didn't have it, and it saved me from having to buy it off of ebay or amazon

  • Wish there was like some piano music playing or something.

  • This film the AVGN says on his Cinemassacre's Bat-A-Thon was considered the very first "Batman" movie, bar none!

Bob Kane made the idea of creating a character and the rest is history.

  • You can say that again. Be sure to see "The Man Who Laughs" (as posted by this same user) for more rampant Kane "borrowing" of another familiar character.

  • Also read 'Partners in Peril', a story from The Shadow magazine that was likewise 'borrowed' to form the first Batman comic script.

  • y?

    cuz its classic???

    old

black and white?? dudeu havent seen the movie

  • this is the movie that inspired bob kane to make BATMAN (it's true)

  • yep!

  • @thepezpunk "inspired " ? some of the senes in the first comic come from this film

  • I didn't like this first part, but after that it only got better and better... ROFL all evening

  • ummmmmm... duh!

  • Thanks for this wonderful vid'!

  • Thanks for fulfilling my earlier request to place "The Bat" on YouTube. Glad to see that you're active again.

  • This comes to my other silent movie favorites

  • i've wanted to see this movie for a long time, . jack pickford had a very interesting life, there is a video bio on him that came out ten years ago, very good. check it out if you can find it, his troubled personal life, another tale of drink, drugs, hollywood ruin, early death. check "taylorology" for lots of mention too. .
