  • You sold it to me, I'm getting one with Christmas money.

  • Could u use just a normal 9 volt AC power adapter for this???

  • Sounds great

  • witch is the rockiest/ metaliest setting? please show me xD

  • I know a bunch of people use tube screamers for Peavey Valvekings and i was wondering how the Bad Monkey would sound on it in comparison to the TS?

  • @SkateSF10 hey man i just got one of these and id say depending on what sound you are trying to achieve will determine if you like this pedal. you wont get a 'metal' sound as such, its more of a rock or grunge sound. its very cool if you like that stuff. TS are the bench mark pedal, not much can beat them.

  • so do u think it will work on a line 6 spider iv cuz i need an overdrive pedal that works on solid state amps

  • New to pedals here, in general what do mids do?

  • @NegmaDeath don't know if you're answered yet.

Metal is most of the time ceated with lesser mids and more high(gain)

Seventies rock is a lot more mids than High's.

More mids and less high get's you better trough the mix in my experience. Less distortion and more volume also

  • Not bad,but I personally prefer the Digitech Tone Driver over this,or even better the discontinued Zoom Power Drive or the Zoom Hyper Lead-but to each their own and rock on man.Nice playing btw...

  • @TheTeenRiot alternative to what , good jazz and talent?

  • I have a marshall JCM 900 2 x 12 combo amp. .It is the sound all kids who buy these pedals are trying to get. Quit jiving a round & buy the amp, the real deal , a high gain British tube amp that goes to 20 not 11.

  • they upped the price on these

  • This or a palmer germany overdrive

    I think this

  • OK this is gonna sound weird but I don't have my guitar yet and I'm getting one of these but the grunge pedal.... I need a clear description of ow you plug these pedals in... please help. oh and by the way.... bad monkey or grunge?

  • @CharlieBitMyNose1 Unless you have an FX loop (Which you won't need to worry about for a while, in fact I don't think you need to worry about pedals at all if you're just starting.), Pedals go "in between" your guitar and amp. You'll need to cables, one to go out of the guitar and into the pedal, and one to go from the pedal to the amp.

And when you get an amp, whatever the guy at the store says, don't get a Line 6 Spyder. But Marshall MGs aren't as bad as everyone says, for a starter amp.

  • @kioshiRawk : Marshall MG DFX amp.s can be modified by replacing the shitty speaker with a real UK Celestion driver and then using an amp. simulator pedal such as the ARTEC twin head tube emulator you have decent basic solid state rig for small gigs and jamming at a home with the walls.

  • are u using a mic on the amp?

  • @TheGuitarstation1 Nope, I'm plugged directly into a Line6 UX2 studio, which was running into my macbook running Pod Farm for amp modeling and Garageband for recording.

  • @machogriz wtf

  • nice you should try this with a usa big muff pi very versatile

  • Nice, but isn't that the amp output you're using rather than the mixer output?

  • nice demo - my bad monkey sure does add some nice warmth to my xt

  • Unfortunately, this pedal is better designed to hit the front end of a tube amp, not a modeling amp. In this application, it's very sterile, harsh, and just plain nasty. This is a Tube Screamer with a bass and treble control. Used as such, it really rips. Good playing can't make this thing sound good....but thanks anyway.

  • @mazsenior AGREED +1000 Throw this in front of a VOX AC15 OR A BLUES JR it sounds like heaven. Also throw this in front of a high gain amp also kicks ass. Best boost for the buck i say. I see no point in this demo or even using it with solid state.

  • I just bought this pedal cause of this review.... Thanks for sharing it.

  • man , is this thing good for playing metal?? and specially for melodic death metal??

  • @whitetower94

get the digitech death metal pedal... that'l probably work

  • @whitetower94 "melodic death metal" , is that an oxymoron , like "military intelligence"?

  • wat amp r u using? and is ther alot of gain in tap/?

  • @h3at32 I'm using an emulated amp (probably a Fender Bassman, but I can't remember exactly what model I used) in Pod Farm by way of a Line 6 UX2 studio. The emulated amp has no gain dialed in, as you can tell by the clean tones, so all the overdrive is straight from the Bad Monkey.

  • @h3at32 a bad monkey is a medium gain pedal so it adds to your gain in your drive channel of your amp- however it is one of the few pedals that works with modeling amps. I used a PODXT Live into my PC for recording and it pushed a slightly crunched blues tone into pretty aggressive screaming lead- does not matter which modeling amp used really... except for a Recto Dual Mesa Boogie which is super high gain. You can only use so much gain before your sound gets out of control and unmanageable

  • why in the hell were you twisting knobs before you even turned it on?!?

  • @thedeem0N Because I had been playing around with it before I recorded the video and I was setting the knobs all back to 12 o'clock

  • Duuuudeee.

You rock. What songs are you playing? Or scales?

I just wanna know how to play like that.

  • @xxIceManxx2011 I don't remember exactly, but most likely they are major scales or minor pentatonic. Check out my other videos to actually see me playing and you might get a better idea of what I typically like to play.

  • what do you think, this or hot rod?????

  • @MRpurplesea Not sure.....never used a hot rod

  • @MRpurplesea I think the hot rod. I don't like the weak sound of this guitar. the hot rod you can play more classic rock and funk

  • I think that I like the Digitech Screamin' blues better.

  • 4th one sounds like ramones tone

  • What kind of amp are you using?

  • I'm actually using a line 6 UX2 Studio with Pod farm. I think the amp is a simulated Vox AC30

  • your putting a pedal into pod farm??

    never tried that before...

  • Yeah, it works pretty well. I like doing that better than using the built in pod farm effects

  • is this good as a booster pedal??

  • It can certainly function as one if thats what you need it for

  • @ikilledstacey I'v seen a demo for a marshall DLS 100 head and the gain was boosted with this pedal so i would say yess and it's very good for it's price, you can get this for like 40 ponds so not bad

  • Hey, I was wandering if you could tell me how god the sound is actualy when you use the the direct output to a mixing board, because if I choose this one it would be just for this future. Thanks

  • Good question. i'll see if I can demo it for you using the Direct Output.

  • every gain pedal sounds bad into a mixer.. a guitar direct to mixer sounds bad!

  • Hey guys. I need some help. I need an Overdrive pedal that has good dynamics and can provide some crunch too. Which out of the Boss OD-3, BD-2, SD-1 and the Digitech Bad Monkey will be the best for me? Any suggestions?

  • I should be able to help you out a little bit. I've got the Bad Monkey and I just picked up an SD-1. I'll see if I can record a shootout video tonight between the two of them. Then, if you'll check my other videos, I recorded a couple demos of a BD-2 as well. It has a Monte Allums mod so it will sound better than the stock BD-2, but it will give you a general idea.

  • Thanks a lot man!

  • Just uploaded the SD-1 vs the Bad Monkey!

  • Hey! Thanks a ton dude. Tried it an hour ago but there's something wrong with my internet, not letting videos buffer. Thanks anyway! You'll see my comment when i watch the whole thing! :D

  • The Monkey is the best budget Overdrive on the market....like a TS9 with more gain and controls for treble and bass.

Nice video. It's cool that you demo'd it as a boost only at 45 seconds or so. You covered bases that people forget about.

    Nice.

I have a Monkey and a Maxon OD9 (TS9 Reissue) and the Monkey avoids the mid range hump that TS9's give. Great pedal.

  • I don't know.....for the $40 - $50 price range, its tough to beat

  • so do you.

  • 5:20 which is that song?

  • its no specific song, just a regular chord progression. I think its G, D/F#, Em, C, D

  • Ok , thank you :)

  • get a Marshal Amp and Dimarzio pick ups on a solid body 80's Ibanez Guittar ok.

  • i was unsure which distortion pedal to get, but thanx to this, i'm gettin 1 fo' sho'! thnx!

  • i got it for 48 € in spain

but got the MXR ZAKK WYLDE too and ,,, it costed 0 euros , but its 160$ worth

so i decided to use MXR jaj

  • i may considere buying this cuz lately ive been playing a lot of bluesy stuff over metal and i think this would be jsut what im looking for, thx for the vid bro

  • dude I'm so getting this pedal. I'm tired of borrowing pedals lol, but yeah. by the way, do you happen to have the grunge pedal by digitech? If you do can you make a video like this one and play grunge cuz all the videos for the grunge pedal heve retards playing metal....or maybe the pedal was mistakenly named "Grunge" instead of "Metal" idk

  • perhaps the pedal also works well for metal? ever consider that

  • Thank you ive decided to get this pedal now... are you positive if they pushed up the price

  • ah, this is just what i need. i play clean most of the time...most distortions or ODs are too crunchy for me, this is perfect. gonna get me one soon.

  • after watching this vid, i've made my decision; I'm gonna buy this!! thanks for the video dude

  • awesome! glad I could help in your decision! Hope you enjoy the pedal

  • i have this pedal. through my fender hot rod deluxe it sounded "good" but through my ceriatone jtm45 "holy ^&#(*&&#)" very much worth the money. boys you have to start with a good amp period. i have had all the goods, from line6 podxt live to jtm45. the line6 stuff is fun, but without being a snob there is no substitute for a tube amp. and further yet a good one. look at ceriatones webb sight for point to point wired clones of some of the most sought after amps in the world.

  • Pedal sure does stand its own against the TS9's

  • Utah boyz being bad. LOL
