  • I feel like crying after watching this video, I've had lymphedema in my legs for over 10 years, never heard of lymphatic massage before, my doctor told me there was nothing to be done about it. Why are doctors so ignorant?

  • Excellent. Thank you very much for sharing

  • how do I purchase this in the UK?

  • @Bally2k10 It's on Amazon. Not sure if they ship to UK but worth a look.

  • @katzzam eh?

  • @Bally2k10 there is amazonuk.com the DVD is about 1 1/2 hr. boring, but useful. You will fall asleep watching, so be prepared to learn small segments at a time.

  • the thing is this: this is a promotional clip from the makers of this video. for professionals like myself, there are instances where getting a video for my CE requirements might be helpful- especially afte practicing for 20 years and already having taken many of the modalities offered. it allows me to earn my credits, and reinforces/refreshes what i already know.

as for posting it on here? yeah, i sure as hell want to know what's in it before i shell out the cash and buy the course!

  • I've been taking oxycontin for 8yrs and my body has turned on the pills. The more I take the more swelling in my leggs. If I take just a little within hrs my leggs get real skinny. It's weird , I wish I wasn't addicted to oxy cuz my problems would b gone. Mabey this can help someone that is going through the same thing. Peace.

  • As far as not showing things on Youtube because sleepyeyes feels nobody will pay the professionals to do it - there's no way I'd consider going to a professional for bodywork until I saw a demonstration of what exactly he/she would be doing! This was a great intro and made me feel more comfortable setting up an appt.

  • i'm studing to become a massage therpist....and i now that certain things should not be on youtube for everyone too see......think about it

if people know how to do MLD people like massage therpist won't be getting paid...bcaz people are going to want to do it themselves

  • the info is, and always will be available to learn anything at all.

thats why we have libraries ...

  • i am a therapist. Its fine to have it on youtube. People give it a crack at home, of course they are trying to save money, but they dont really no what they are doing and come back to the clinic anyway

  • if what you're doing can be done equally well by someone with little to no training, after watching some videos on youtube, then you're basically a fraud for charging money for your own "skills".

Do you think a doctor would object to surgical techniques being shown on youtube? Idiot.

  • @whatwouldmattdo

Those who have lymphoedema or lipoedema benefit greatly from treatment from a trained professional. It is also beneficial if patients do MLD on themselves each day but often it is not possible to adequately do the whole body without restricting the very areas you want to clear

Only those who are professionally qualified tend to get the results that are needed. Many who claim to do Lymphatic Drainage apply techniques that are either not useful or can make the swelling increase

  • I disagree, there is much more to MLD than watching a video. As with other forms of massage, there is a lot of depth that can't be gained in 2min 15secs. I am a therapist myself, as yet haven't uploaded any vids, but I agree with finchshui above that it helps people feel more confident about booking an appointment. I think you should reconsider this position, youtube has only been with us for about 5 years and has dramatically changed the way people use the internet... only more to come!

  • @sleepyeyes163

if you are truly studying to be a LMT than you should realize that most techniques cannot be properly preformed by a solely youtube educated person. also if you will ever try to practice on yourself there are areas of the body that you cannot access without excessive twisting and turning which is going to inevitably lead to contraction of several muscles. Most of the time contraction of any of the recipients muscle groups is going to be counter-productive to any bodywork

  • @sleepyeyes163

That is exactly the type of ignorance that makes me very angry

Most with serious conditions cannot afford the cost of treatment that would help them, which can often run to £10 - £15,000+ per year. Without self-massage & good advice some are destined to become grossly swollen & disfigured, housebound & suffer from leg ulcers & serious infections

Good therapists are few & far between as many share the ignorant attitude you demonstrate, keeping useful information from patients

  • @sleepyeyes163

In your case you can be forgiven for being so young & perhaps not knowing better. But there are many mature professionals around that do not give useful information to clients because they think it will do them out of a job

This is a limited, ignorant & inaccurate attitude of mind, which leaves many people not knowing how best to manage their condition - sometimes suffering a lot in the process

I would hope that you would aspire to have more integrity than that

  • @sleepyeyes163 you must be young and stupid, that's ok, it's not your fault. good luck to you in your profession. If that does not work, try cosmetology.

  • they shoulda cleaned the pool before shooting this video tho. i'm just sayin...

  • This is a great video for lymphedemic, bedridden or sedentary patients with doctor supervision.

response to the2ofme- if she has lymphedema, then it may be best to start with abdominal work (trying to clear the lymph pipelines first), and then go down leg with proximal movements as in this video. Pressure and technique all depend on the individual case. You should try different therapists and styles.

  • massaging from the feet upward is key..I am self taught because my wife was diagnosed with severe lymphadeama and we couldn't afford to pay for proper treatment..so I downloaded anatomical diagrams and learned to massage in the direction of the closest lymph drainage areas for all parts of the body..AND ITS WORKED!..her swelling is kept to a minimum, as is her fluid retention, and especially her pain..most successful pain relief points are the soles of her feet in regards to reflexology charts..

  • I am interested in this video, as my spouse is suffering from lymphedema post prostate radiation. This clip gave me a good intro to the DVD. Thanks!

  • Hi!! I´m in Mexico City and I´m a certified therapist in Lymphatic Dreinage massage and it is important to take your spouse with a certified person to show you how to do it because it is really important to follow a sequence and to do some steps to make it works, because if you dont know some anatomic things and the flow of the Lymphatic Liquid it could be dangerous and it wont work. I hope this comment helps you.

  • can massage really drain water from our systems?

  • great question. Im curious myself, if so.. how?

  • I am a massage therapist and if you can find a really good therapist who is certified in lymphatic drainage it really works. Ive watched this dvd 100 times. It's great stuff. SO yes it really works!!

  • tabitha501:

Not only does it drain water but body waste as well.

    P.S. Greetings and Salutations.
