I have a Sony Ericsson W580i I got on sale during the Christmas holiday last year and it does internet connection as well. You go to the manufacturers website and download programs from there and you can transfer files to and from your phone/computer and the internet connection does pretty good. Once I was out of town and did the connection and was able to stay on it for an hour without losing connection and it's pretty fast (depending on where you're at etc). So definitely check outthephone.
3G is faster, it's proven. And when you get down to speeds on a real computer, 3G blows EDGE out of the water. I am waiting for a 3G iPhone because 3G also has better voice quality than the GSM network.
my 3G PPC6700 works as a USB modem and with Bluetooth. It is a wonderfully crappy little device, great for business use and watching videos/streaming music when your waiting for appointments, it is just kind of unreliable and crashes a lot.
Still wouldn't trade up for an iPhone as the lack of internet sharing is weak.
im noob i got the n95 and been told by laods of people to switch to gsm from 3g to save on the battery usage, so wots so great about 3g anybody PLEASE
Sprint doesn't even have a 3g newtork. And to the comment under me most newer phones from Cingular have Wi-fi so Apple sacrified 3g for nothing. The only thing the IPhone has is a beauty look
Yea if they dont update the iPhone within 16 months of the current realease, there is definatly a BIG problem. For the europe launch i expect there to be a 3g version of the iPhone. Then i also expect a updated iPhone 2.0 sometime next year, maybe a preview at MWSF. My only hopes for it are that it has 3.5g and wireless n, just hopes.
Also, I really hope that the iPhone 2.0 is open for everyone and comes with a SDK for developers.
Honeslty it just depends on the person. At work I have wifi, my college has wifi. All my friends have wifi. So the percentage of time were I am not around it is pretty slim. Also youtube is just fine on edge. Thats just my view on it. Plus I know a lot about 3g and its not all what its cracked up to be. Not every market (area) supports 3g. Its not that widespread yet so that is probually another reason why they did not choose it. They want everyone to have the phone.
3G rocks in my area, i get 350/kbps on average in my area, i use it to do full streaming video presentations off my home computer when I am out at clients. I work in marketing and advertising, and many clients do not have wifi access I can use, so having a nice 3g connection has been invaluable to me.
I can not wait for iPhones to go 3g and hopefully have the ability to share the high speed connection with my Macbook Pro.
Just to let you know regular edge runs at 2.5. The ihpone runs on a little different edge with some type of upgrade. Trust me I know, the iphone runs at 2.75. Still slower but its not 2.5
I've swapped it out 4 times actually, the problem according to Sprint is it runs Windows Mobile 5.0. They have had me do a couple of ROM updates, but its not much better. This is why I think the iPhone will be such a huge success, and then I can get an iPhone 2.0 with all the features I need to run my business (on a personal phone plan)
yuh....windows will need to step it up a notch....i really dont understand why apple went wit att instead of say verizon *Vcast !!!* but w/e there loss hopefully it doesnt hurt them
yuh my friend told me that....i waz like ...why would they not do that....i guess they dont understand that this is the next gen Cell....Companies....UGH!....i love verizons vcast and i think that would of been great on the iphone....o well lets see wat att is goin to give i know they have 3G in some areas but only a few big cities...but nothin like verizon...cuz verizon owns
Sprint in my area is pretty awesome for 3G, and they have a great Roaming plan so I can use Verizon 3G at no cost. I don't know if Verizon offers free roaming, but if they don't I would switch ;-)
uhhh i acctually dont no...i dont pay for it...but i dont think i could eva switch wit verizons vcast it comes in handy on long car rides....i have a story...i went to cingular store which is now the new att store *a small store* wanted to try one out...diddnt have one...as i waz leavin the dude goes its not worth it...i waz like...ur on crak...*to my self* wit the att network its prolly not worth it....lol
My PPC6700 is great for watching videos & such, I stream video & live tv from my home PC, works great... Spring doesnt support the TV on the PPC6700 though it was definitely advertised when it first came out to include both Sirius Radio & SprintTV, my first bill even said it was included, however after calling a few dozen times I found out it was a mistake & they dont support such features on smart phones, only dedicated phones & crap. I often use it at the beach while my dogs play. Kicksass!!!
Why do you have to get online to be able to do your presentations ??

nearly alll 3G networks hav been upgradet to 3.5G and that beats up to 7.2Mbit/s out of the line.......
and EDGE becomes useless

At the time of posting 3g was still the fastes possible. 2 Months later, Nokia gave birth to their n95 which rocks the 3.5/HSDPA boat.

Ever heard of usb 3g modems. You know the once plastered all over the papers, advertising broadband on the go.
Considering your such a tech head I'm surprised you don't know this. But I suppose you don't read news papers, as your always on the internet. lol.

Sprint doesn't have a 3G network? You clearly don't know what 3G is.

whoa lets not go bashing the guy
i think apple sacrificed 3g for wi-fi which (in my opinion)is way better
wi-fi = free FAST internet
3g = expensive decent internet

yes, running at somewhat faster dial up speeds is such a big improvment.

I think getting 350kbps is significantly faster then dialup. I was able to upload that video using my PPC6700 through my laptop.
