No matter how good the music...it was still dreadful. The story, despite some originality, was not told in a clear and concise way. The acting, apart from Paul Giamatti, was shocking, and that goes for M. Night Shyamalan, who needs to stop casting himself in roles. Overall, it was no better than a 5/10 at best.

This movie had a Great Message ! Made well, but was based on M. Night's story telling to try & keep his kid's from sneaking into the pool at night. I find M. Nights movies going more "Fantasy" lately. His roots are in his first films. I wish he'd get back to that kinda directing & writing. I think M. Night Shyamalan has been very brave trusting in the audience to be open in mind and in heart enough to accept this tender and unususal story that tries to moves us to recover innocence, faith and hope in ourselves and in the others
This movie is about purpose and worth. In the mind of a storyteller he is telling us that we too have a purpose, that we are worth something. You might not know what your gift is from God, but it is there. He has a plan for you.
There is a simple clarity to this film, a bedtime story told in my opinion by a master storyteller. Listen to the story through the ears of a child, then and only then will you hear what M.Night is saying. He is speaking to the child in all of us. How very difficult it must be to be judged for expressing that which the judger cannot possibly comprehend. Lady In The Water is an amazing story, and I am a better child for listening! I just watched batman begins (that has music by both James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer). Zimmer is the master of creating dramatic scores but Newton Howard has more soul and emotion. I somehow feel more when I listen to his music.
Personally I think the plot was amazing but the execution was poor. With a plot like this, it had so much potential!!!! I liked another movie I saw of his, The Village (which for some reason nobody liked but I loved!) but this one just didn't do it for me. The soundtrack, however, is beautiful :)

When I sit up at nights and watches series like How I met your Mother, Scrubs and 2 and a ½ men, I just sit there waiting for this kind of movies that makes you feel so wondeful and makes you believe that everything is possible and life is about not giving up and keep going if you so have to confess your deepest feelings or have to fight the whole world.

@LATiNAMAMi369 i loved the parts :45-1:00 & 1:30-1:552:20-2:40 (this reminded me of balto lol) 4:00-5:00 was just amazing. i bawled whenever cleveland was healing her and talking about his family. i really enjoyed the piano in all of this. i love how he stayed with that same tune throughout all of them 7:08-15. i liked 7:45-8:15 and deff the end.. yeah i pretty much loved all of it
I watched this movie on the tv for the first time like 2 hours ago and still can't really focus, mostly because of the music. Music like this truly "deliver" emotions in my opinion, and that comes from a fan of rock/metal, hehe. I just want to share this movie and particularly its score to everyone I know!
James Newton Howard's scores seem to just kind of place a feeling in your soul that no other composer can really fully accomplish. JNH is one of the reasons Shyamalan's films are so great
@DarthRoy1292 Agreed 100%!!!! I'm 19 and am proud of the copy I own, people just don't seem to like original thought anymore, they just want more of the same. THat's why I LOVE M. Night's movies (except Avatar), they give you relatively cleaner movies, usually with a message, they're always fun, and even on weaker efforts, I can always enjoy what he did because he's always shooting for something new to bring viewers.

A lot of people judge M Night based on his early movies that deal less with story and more with just cheap scares. I think what Shyamalon tries to imbue with his masterpieces isn't just a collection of cheap thrills, its a STORY. A story that drives you to care for the characters, and then adding thriller elements to his movies. Movies like the Village and Lady in the Water are prime examples, but all his other movies carry the same clear want, but star it less. I personally loved LitW.
i agree. The Happening is different altogether, but another one you might like. pretty crazy movie that makes you think and is without cheap scares. a little disturbing too if you don't have the stomach for it.
@pwngo I know this is a bit late, but try watching that new piece of shit of his: The Last Airbender. All notions of respect for his 'art' will fly out the window. BTW, the music for this film WAS good. Music can get away with being linked to a shitty movie.
@pwngo I whole-heartedly agree with you. I think you have to be a thinking person to get these movies and look past how "scary" or "not scary" they are and look at them as a piece of art, which they are, they have heart. Between the story, the acting, and I would say just as largely, the music. M. Night & James Newton Howard together are incredible in the true sense of the word, similar to a Depp/Burton/Elfman, but on a different platform of film making.
I actually kinda liked the movie. Not his best for sure, but it wasn't bad. I thought it was really cool how they all were pieces in the puzzle they didn't think they were. And the idea of "The Cookbook" was pretty cool because he was going to do amazing things and didn't know it. It's that idea of fate that are in all his movies. The music gets me more then the movie does though.
This movie was inspired by the bedtime story for his 2 daughters every night before bed. He told a little more of the story to them every night, just out of his own head. There's also a childrens book that he wrote called Lady In The Water. I loved this movie and still listen to the music today, as well as that from The Village (Hillary Hahn is just amazing) Paul Giamati was also just wonderful in this movie..the part where he healed Story and cried about the death of his own family,amazing!!

I saw Lady in the Water this evening, and I almost started to cry at some moments.
The music is fantastic and the movie is even better.
I would place it among the best movies i've ever seen among Forest Gump, V for Vendetta, The Thomas Crown Affair and Finding Neverland.
This is an amazing movie that is worth to be watched over and over again just because it's so amazing.
This movie get's inside you and touches your heart and soul.

I watched this movie on the tv for the first time like 2 hours ago and still can't really focus, mostly because of the music. Music like this truly "deliver" emotions in my opinion, and that comes from a fan of rock/metal, hehe. I just want to share this movie and particularly its score to everyone I know!
Parts at 5:39 and 7:04 are beautiful.

James Newton Howard's scores seem to just kind of place a feeling in your soul that no other composer can really fully accomplish. JNH is one of the reasons Shyamalan's films are so great

@DarthRoy1292 Agreed 100%!!!! I'm 19 and am proud of the copy I own, people just don't seem to like original thought anymore, they just want more of the same. THat's why I LOVE M. Night's movies (except Avatar), they give you relatively cleaner movies, usually with a message, they're always fun, and even on weaker efforts, I can always enjoy what he did because he's always shooting for something new to bring viewers.

JNH is the best composer ever!! He is better than James Horner. I know that Titanic's soundtrack was epic but that is pretty much the only work of his that I find impressive. But everytime I hear JHN's music I get the chills. James Horner kinda takes from his other scores like I heard the same hook in the Troy soundtrack and in the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and in Titanic and Avatar they are very similar. But JHN delivers every time!!!!! I LOVE YOU JHN!!! Keep writing that music!

A lot of people judge M Night based on his early movies that deal less with story and more with just cheap scares. I think what Shyamalon tries to imbue with his masterpieces isn't just a collection of cheap thrills, its a STORY. A story that drives you to care for the characters, and then adding thriller elements to his movies. Movies like the Village and Lady in the Water are prime examples, but all his other movies carry the same clear want, but star it less. I personally loved LitW.

i agree. The Happening is different altogether, but another one you might like. pretty crazy movie that makes you think and is without cheap scares. a little disturbing too if you don't have the stomach for it.

@pwngo I know this is a bit late, but try watching that new piece of shit of his: The Last Airbender. All notions of respect for his 'art' will fly out the window. BTW, the music for this film WAS good. Music can get away with being linked to a shitty movie.

@pwngo I whole-heartedly agree with you. I think you have to be a thinking person to get these movies and look past how "scary" or "not scary" they are and look at them as a piece of art, which they are, they have heart. Between the story, the acting, and I would say just as largely, the music. M. Night & James Newton Howard together are incredible in the true sense of the word, similar to a Depp/Burton/Elfman, but on a different platform of film making.

I actualy liked the movie, as well as the music.
But I must admit... the music WAS twice as better than the movie it's self..
But The "Cook Book" was like, aweosme. And I loved the twist at the end of the movie.

I actually kinda liked the movie. Not his best for sure, but it wasn't bad. I thought it was really cool how they all were pieces in the puzzle they didn't think they were. And the idea of "The Cookbook" was pretty cool because he was going to do amazing things and didn't know it. It's that idea of fate that are in all his movies. The music gets me more then the movie does though.

This movie was inspired by the bedtime story for his 2 daughters every night before bed. He told a little more of the story to them every night, just out of his own head. There's also a childrens book that he wrote called Lady In The Water. I loved this movie and still listen to the music today, as well as that from The Village (Hillary Hahn is just amazing) Paul Giamati was also just wonderful in this movie..the part where he healed Story and cried about the death of his own family,amazing!!
