I have a bunch of great NES Metal and have been requesting bands to do Solstice. This hit the spot, until someone can do it better, if the can. Great job on this, I envy your ability.
BTW I can re-edit your video so it fits for time if you like, feel free to private message me.
amazing. this is so perfect, ive watced this intro 1000 times and jammed out when i was just a little dude, you guys rock . it was like something i alwayse imagined should exist
8-bit version beats all. I would like this one a bit more if it didnt ad-lib that terrible part at 0:58-1:05, seriously do you think that you can write it better than Follin? =/
My ceramic dragon bong and I beat this game in 1993 and fantasized what a cover song would sound like, I lived long enough to finally hear it. Thank you pojo 81!
since the first time i ever threw this game into my NES, i've wanted something like this to exist. now i check this off my list of things that must happen before i die.
Sir, you've got me in a slow clap. YOU are what all the gamers of yesteryear including myself love to hear. I'm pretty sure I speak for a majority of us when I say... "Thank you".
I know I'm possibly blaspheming here, but this was the greatest Nintendo theme of all time. I loved playing this game just for the music alone. And you just made it that more amazing. I have been waiting for a guitar version of this for most of my life. Thank you. So much.
This is pretty much epic. The only thing that could possibly make this better is just more live instruments. For instance, maybe change some of the riffs to violin riffs and use actual flutes, etc. But, until anyone decides to do that, this is pretty much going to be "the best thing - ever."
Pojo, I just wanted to say that this is truly awesome - I've always been a huge fan of Solstice as one of the greatest and most underappreciated old NES games. Tim Follin's soundtrack was amazing and all of it deserves to be given as great a treatment as this - my hat is off to you.
omg I can't express how much you rock dude! First off impressive playing just absolutely amazing. Plus the fact that too one of the best NES games songs and zomfg just took it from awesome and made it EPIC!! :D!!
Thanks for the views and comments everyone! My apologies on the link to the mp3 going dead and for me taking forever to update it. But, I finally got around to it and put up a fresh link...hopefully this stays up this time. Enjoy!
I hope you do some Equinox (Solstice II) covers and Plok covers as well. : D I'm not sure which I would like to request though, but I might soon. Awesome man!
Very good job! I think it probably sounds close to what Follin had in mind when he composed the song. Some of his NES instruments scream like: that's probably be supposed to be an e-guitar. Though I think that the portion of the original tune from 0:00 - 0:09 was probably meant to be an wind instrument.
Have you considered submitting this to Overclocked Remix? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea to submit there, but it would definitely expose this supercharged track to an appreciative audience!
Wow this is so... too much guitar. You should have done more of the instruments and made the guitar sound less... 80s. Don't get me wrong, this is pretty sweet, but def. not as sweet as the original.
As far as tabs/sheet music, I can't say I'll have the time to do that up. I used a midi file I found online to serve as a foundation and to learn the trickier parts I couldn't pull by ear. Loading the midi file in Sonar let me split the instruments into tracks, piano roll on the tracks itself let me go through note by note.
Is there any way you could post the sheet music for this somewhere? ...and/or do the ending theme? I've had a similar idea to this, though my version's beginning is different.
One of my old subbers mentioned your rendition in a vid I made about the original NES tunes, so I was expecting a good YouTube cover, but man, this is a notch above most. Your playing is delicious to my ears.
Props on the song selection too, while we're at it. Tim Follin is the fucking man. Maybe you can rock out to some Silver Surfer, Sky Shark or even Plok in the future. Keep it up dude.
Nice! I always enjoy hearing remakes of Follin's songs. They generally work well with guitar, bass, & drums, since he basically created prog rock tunes and stuck them in NES games.
Amazing, wonderful, flawless. You have no idea how long i waited for a cover of this, and as it turns out it gets done in the most perfect way possible. Honor to be your first sub and hope to hear more amazing covers in the future.
two questions. are you playing the guitars or was this all done with a program? Secondly, i hope it's not too much to ask but i'd appreciate the mp3 of this badboy. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for the comment. Same as you, this piece blew me away when I heard it on the nes and I knew it had to be redone with live instruments...surprised no one did yet that I know of!
Now your questions:
1. Yup, I played all guitars (not exactly live, some parts needed 20+ takes)
2. Yes, after you asked I figured others might want it too so I put it on a host...and a link to it in the description.
@pojo81 RE: Other covers: Ryan8bit also did a guitar cover, although I can't find it on YouTube. He's done some good stuff, but his Solstice is sloppy compared to yours - he should have referenced the slowed-down (ie; original speed) PAL version!
That's just....awesome work. So much years I waited for a band or a musician to cover this properly !!

This put together with Randil´s TAS would be perfection. Still freakin´ awesome. Love the game and this guitar version.
