Paid my first visit to Sweet Maria's yesterday and now have my green beans and my West Bend Air Crazy popper...I am SO excited to go out on the back stairs and try this! Any tips for this particular popper?
@jaideux Thanks for your purchase. Hopefully you have had good results by now. Have you had a chance to read the tip sheet that came with your popper? We did our best to include all necessary info. You can access it from the Air Crazy product page on our site. Just Google "air crazy sweet marias"
@sweetmarias Hi there! I did find the tip sheet and am hopefully perfecting my roasting! I seem to have no problem hearing first crack but it seems like I don't hear second crack....I think I may leave my beans roasting too long while listening for it...but I keep trying...:). Thanks for being in the Bay Area...can't wait to cross the bridge and come back to buy more green beans...you guys are great!
Good video! A little tip - Put cold water into the scoop that you place on the top of the popcorn maker, it will absorb the heat and stop the lid melting :)
I was lucky enough to find a WestBend Popery I at a thrift store and without any other mods than adding a tin can in top to act as a chimney I can roast very very close to a full cup of green beans. It does need a little bit of agitating with a wooden spoon from me at the beginning to get things rolling and during the roast to help the chaff escape.
Two batches in the same night and I'm set for a gull week of freshly roasted coffee.
I highly recommend this popper it's build to last and can
@wlchase this popper was running too hot, and didn't show any signs of having the high temperature cutoff kicking in. that was literally the first roast i did on it, so i really wasn't sure how it would do, but my experience with the WB Poppery is that many work without any mods. After a couple roasts I pulled it apart to photograph the high temp. cutoff so we could document that in another video... -tom
That is so awesome!!! I'm totally doing that!!!

What a great idea! I'm excited to try this at home. I'd be even more excited if Tom would come to my house and roast my coffee for me! LOL

You didn't have an over-temp cutoff to bypass?
