Solved ever bicker I had witt the tranny aside from it being FWD and 4 speed
All LS motors have oil consumption issues, best fix is to get a air/oil filter and install inline with line that runs back to the TB from crank case. mine goes the a 1/2 qt every 3k
How do you hook up? I know the impalas have smaller tours than the gxps I spin a little but its not long..and these cars are hard to launch..takes practice..you definately can't just stand on it

The Impala SS are so nice. My only complant is that GM fails to put 6 speeds into vehicles until recently. And this car is such a quick vehicle that they should have made it a RWD or maybe even an AWD. Even for the newer Silverados and Tahoe, Why iis it htat they are just now doing 6 speed. GM is slow on the market. But anyways, Nice quick ride.

we had my 2008 impala super sport at 162 mph on the dyno... lol they are fast cars.. cram a ls4 327 ci in to a full size car.. make it front wd.. and u got a crazy fun car lol.. it is fun and i ran 13.96..
the only reason people get a hard on over the 94-96 impala ss is because it was RWD. They were very underpowered for their size. they weighed over 4200 lbs and did 0-60 in over 7 seconds. seriously, the new imps look way better have more power and are hell of a lot faster!
they had minimal styling to them. it's really a matter of preference really. I do like the mid 90's impalas don't get me wrong, but compare it to most cars of today and they are extremely dated looking. heck even the new impalas are starting to look dated. everything else i said is pure fact tho. they were very bulky, underpowered and not that fast at all.
I think they look really cool, a big american cruiser. I`m well aware that these cars were already dated when on the market but having driven a 96 Impala SS made me love them so much. They`re not superfast but definitely not underpowered.
ive been in them before, they are pretty cool. when i say underpowered, i mean for their size. there is nothing wrong with 260 hp, thats a decent amount of hp. but for a 4221 lbs sedan, it could be more lol. if this car came stock with 400hp, id take it in a heart beat!
many 3500 lbs V6 sedans today are around 300+ hp. but then again back in the 90's 260 was considered a lot.
I know what you mean ;-)! 260 hp isn`t too much in such a heavy car but one must not forget that the 5.7 liter V8 delivers a fair amount of torque. A 400 hp Impala would be sweet though!
it does have plenty of torque for sure! it would be nice if they did use the LS3 on the next upcoming impala (if they offer an AWD on the super epsilon platform that is) but unfortunately i don't think we will be seeing many V8's for quite a while tho :(
actually, they were quite quick for their size, and as u can see all over youtube, very easy to hook up and make fast with minimal money. Changing the gears in the diff is one of the quickest ways to make it a heck of a lot quicker

Cause if It does I don't understand why GM de-tuned my engine to make 250hp and 223ft-lbs instead of 260hp and 260ft-lbs, while your Impala SS has 303hp and 323ft-lbs. Mods on the car have helped a bit on top end, cut out big time but still with how tall this tranny is geared just kills the car overall. Hell 3rd gear tops out at 160, 4th(D) is 200+
the impala SS monte SS and Grand Prix GXP should of had the 5T70-E or the 6T80-E but they put the 4T65-E which was only a four speed. these cars could have been much faster. I guess GM didn't want them to be too fast.

shit man, reppin 6-7 mpgs there. thats the difference between the ss and the ls. ss has so much power, ha trust me, i drive an 08 ls. gets up quick but once it hits 105, takes forever to get any higher

@bach5953 youre fucking stupid,yes the 94-96 impys were epic,but as far as hp-weight they SUCKED my moms V6 lumina has the same 1/4 mile time.4000+lbs and les than 270hp while the are 3500lbs and have 303hp.Now lets see,which number sound better?you fucking retard.

it's to bad ya don't have vids of your cars up. What all work ya have done so far to them? right now waiting for the new tranny to come in but with that and the intake swap and re-tune I'm about to do she'll prob put down low 13's high 12's on the quarter.

Hey man nice SS! I have the HHR SS with the 4speed auto, do you know if our cars share the same transaxle? Cause if It does I don't understand why GM de-tuned my engine to make 250hp and 223ft-lbs instead of 260hp and 260ft-lbs, while your Impala SS has 303hp and 323ft-lbs. I hope you know something because it's frustrating and I cant find any answers about it.

Listend I have raced the 3 diffrent impala SSs And from dead stop it even and from a roll say 40-?? I have had half a car length! My buddy has a 2009 turboed cobalt SS and it beats me by car lenghts and he has seen me beat these SS impalas

dare I even issue a challenge to meet me anywhere in Texas and I will smoke your poor little car while I'm in cruise trim.
1. A cobalt SS and Impala SS stock vs stock run nearly the same times on the track +/- .2 sec, which ever hooks up first wins.
2. If he is taking you by "lengths" there is no way you are beating the imps
3. You sure you were racing them? or did you pull up rev you fart cannon and speed away going "tee hee"?

4. If ya did a 40 roll the imp will have stayed in 2nd gear and dogged it's way upto what ever speed they stopped at, this would have been the only race you might have won.

It didn't even get to 140, it was done at about 138. And it took it about 30 seconds to get from 120 to 138, that's pathetic for a 5.3 liter V-8.

Mods on the car have helped a bit on top end, cut out big time but still with how tall this tranny is geared just kills the car overall. Hell 3rd gear tops out at 160, 4th(D) is 200+

the impala SS monte SS and Grand Prix GXP should of had the 5T70-E or the 6T80-E but they put the 4T65-E which was only a four speed. these cars could have been much faster. I guess GM didn't want them to be too fast.

motor 95 5.7L LT1 260hp - 06+ 5.3L LS4 303hp
95 cast iron block/heads - 06+ alum block/293 heads
both have horrible tranny problems
top speeds 95 had fuel cut off at 5500 rpm(157ish mph), no idea what people got them to, 06+ speed limited to 160, aero drag limited to 154.
curb weight 95 4,221 lb 06+ 3,764 lb
dare I even go into 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?
