  • O_O cool

  • interesting method for defusing seamines

  • Didn't the U.S. Navy do that with an old aircraft carrier too, for the same rason (starting a reef)?

I wonder if they still do that - what with the scrap metal prices so high...

  • @bogomir67 yes they do. earlier they did it with old tires but that went horribly wrong: corals didn't want to live on tires and the tires are now floating around at the coast haha :)

  • yea hotel for fish! extended stay.lol

  • Making artificial coral reefs..

  • LOL

  • Even when they are being sunk to make a reef, it's still sad to see a good ship die.

  • @skeilak Grandma, 7/11 called. They don't want you back in their store because you shat you Depends while standing in line to buy your gin and cigs.

  • damit i told them i wanted that!!! i would have drove it around and made a house on the back

  • I saw valve BLOW :D

  • why this ship sink in the ocean,,,

what about a ship can go dry dock, cutting / welding the pieces, and throw to recycle center to use it again a new boat / ship,,,

dont dump boats / ships in the ocean

  • @bestamerica Its expected lifetime was in the sea. And because it over there and leave :))))

  • borkon,

not good idea leave death ship under the water ground,,,

cause worse junkie ship and toxic rustly kill any fishes

  • @bestamerica

I know). But it is a kind of tradition. Do not do all this, of course (my English is not so good) :)

  • borkon,

    alright thank,,,

but it is a bad kind of tradition,,,

english is still easily to read for me,,,

    no problem at all

  • why do you post the same question on every ship sinking video? Are you just trying to make your point or do you suffer from short-term memory loss?

  • It will make a good artificial reef in time. I've often said that it's much better to see these old derelic vessels sunk as reefs rather than see them cut to pieces in some Asian yard by poor old men and teenage boys. I think the larger vessels that have to be scrapped should be done so in western yards where a decent wage is payed, and safety and environmental laws are rigorously practiced and obeyed.

  • oh no what a tragedy

  • Thanks..... I guess I should go and collect from my participation in the movie....

This is the actual sinking of a well prepared ship in order to create an "Artificial Reef" ..... 5 years later is full of fish and small coral polyps.... but I guess you would not understand what a FAD is....

  • @CarlosVilkerman On You Tube, invariably there are going to be attention seeking idiots like this patd2k7 who allegedly 'knows what really happened'. You could have posted a vid just showing puppies playing, and some fool would invariably make some sort of negative comment about it. Nice vid, CV

  • All this shit were putting at the bottom of the ocean is going to one day come back to haunt us...

  • when they sink ships like this they strip them of everything un-ecological like plastic, oil, chemicals etc.

when they sink it they crate artificial corals for fish and octopus and other sea creatures.

  • Thank you At last someone with the intelligence to know what s going on. Question is? How do we educate the rest of humanity in the correct way? Everything we do is not an Al Gore you gonna hurt earth thing. ( Remember he invented the Internet. He s for carbon footprints, his power bill is over 10, 000 dollars a month. But he s right. I don t think so. The earth will continue to renew its self. Man can have only a minimal effect.

  • i know but people here just talk and don't think

on the other similar video where they sunk an old warship someone commented : "It would be wise to sink them with nukes and get rid of both"

and he actually had thumbs up given...

  • Actually.... "artificial reefs" work in several ways. First as a "fish aggregating device" and also as an available niche for other species to settle and exploit thus building a thriving community or ecosystem. You are right.... the ship must be clean of any ecologically non-friendly agents.

  • I think this is a waste of good scrap metal.

  • Its a good point.... but in some countries or actually in most countries.... they don't have a guillotine in order to cut the metal inside of a dry dock.... so if you were to cut the ship into pieces with acetylene torches... the pollution would be greater for many reasons.

  • @nomad1187 plus it creates a great habitat for wildlife

  • i think this is a great idea using old vessel's in this way good video too carlos v .

  • Where is this located? It looks an awful lot like the east coast of Canada somewhere.

  • Venezuela. Edo. Aragua

  • Haha, Far Far away from Canada.

  • what is a Underwater cameraman Carlos Vilkerman ? or who? lol sry but i dont speak english well

  • blow the stupid ship up, should of crashed a plane into it!

  • "should of crashed a plane into it" really? waist a multi million dollar bird and fly it into a ship to sink it? killing the pilot to? i don't think so bud.

  • He must be some crazy Jap, Thats what they did in WW2

  • this is a great video; not only is it putting a ship out of its misery, but also creating a suitable habtat 4 underwater animals!

  • who shot it?

  • Carlos Vilkerman. Underwater Cinematographer and documentary producer.

  • dam

  • Great video, as both an Environmental Engineer and a fisherman, I know the value of structure/habitat for the support of game fish populations and habitat for other invertabrates in the food chain. It is kinda sad to see aging ships sunk, but when you consider their ultimate purpose, it seems fitting.

  • Thanks for all the comments. Yes... the music is Enigma. Yes.. The purpose of sinking the ship is to create an "Artificial Reef". Its a way to create a nich where live coral polips can settle and proliferate thus creating a place for many other invertebrates and algae to live. Biomass increases very rapidly. The black smoke is a side effect of the pirotecs. We also added some special effects for a documentary. It wasn´t any oil. Now a days.. we don´t use explosives just to protect marine mammals

  • I think that is very sad. Taking the ship where it shall spend its life alone.

  • pretty good. it kinda gives you an idea of how the titanic may of looked before it got rusted over.

  • Yeah i did wonder how it looked before rustin up.

  • coooooool

  • Does anyone know what song this is?

  • Enigma: The Eyes of Truth. It's a great song. I used it for the ending of part 4 of my music video.

  • now we no what the sea dimond struck to sink

  • did they do that on purpose?

  • yeah i think so

  • they sink them for coral reef development

  • i was about to ask why they would waste a ship like that, thanks for sharing.

  • yeah maybe

  • I liked the music... it was appropriate for the scene, and very evocative.

  • omfg , omg its scary under water

  • I so agree!

  • 01:30 the new owner arrives xD
