  • ST:TNG exudes humanist philosophy. There's one more reason why ST:TNG rocks and, of course, it has to do with yet another enlightened concept; that concentration of too much power in one being's hands is dangerous. Every time a being with great power (not just Q) appears on the screen in TNG, we see it being viewed with suspicion and scrutinized ruthlessly, not worshipped.

  • Using format factory to convert clips to WMV format before putting them into movie maker might help... if you haven't tried that already.

  • I used to be libertarian and a christian. I used to watch a lot of TNG too. It did make me think about things sometimes. In TNG, they don't seem have money. They don't need it; they just walk up to a replicator when they want things. It seems the people on the Enterprise do their jobs because they like them and not because they're economically bound to them. Communist utopia. I'm not a communist, and I'm not sure I can really credit TNG with turning me into a liberal atheist, but here I am.

  • @OneAndOnlySnob: Actually not a communist utopia. Try to build a starship or create a multi petaWatt powerplant. There is still trade, but it's barter, not cash based. After all, the Federation trades with many species, many of which still use money and there are still many species *within* the Federation that still use money. All you ever see is from the Star Fleet perspective, not civilian.

  • I like all the Borg and Q episodes, but one that sticks out for some reason was when they travel faster than warp 10.(I can't remember the episode) Some alien dude takes them far into space where nothing has been charted or known. Despite knowing full well that it was a fictional place, I wanted them to research it and describe it in detail. Unfortunately the alien dude takes them back and in the process dies/disappears. Maybe it was the worst episode, but it was intriguing.

  • which episode is 3:08?

Q episodes are awesome :) nice video.

    LOL WMM FAIL XD

  • That was the first time I realized that startrek was circling the drain. Now it's dead as dodos! I'm so fuckin' sad! Where have all the good series gone? Fucking producers! They wouldn't have come up with all this bullshit programing if the majority of americans weren't dumb little PLEBS! PLEBS ARE NEEDED! But not wanted! Not by me! Fuck that! They shouldn't be in charge! FUCKIN BUSH! Sorry! I'm drunk and venting! PEASE!

  • I know this mighrt sound/look like ass kissing but FUCK YOU IF YOU THNK THAT. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS! Dude, Shwanerd, never fail to amaze me with your insights into shit n stuff. (yeah i'm drunk! what of it? wannafightaboutit?lol) I started watching from "encounter at farpoint" and I loved almost every ep! I had trouble with Yar dying of course. Seemed too abrupt. whatever. Anyways, dude, you are so cool for thinking that TNG is the BEST! "enterprise"? bah! bullshit catertering to idiot

  • Roses are red, violets are purple, We are the Borg, resistance is futile.

(not mine, but its funny :P)

  • Star Trek? NNNNNEEEEEEEEEERD!!!!

    :P

  • I liked the "Genesis" episode.

Didn't follow the series that much really, it was something I watched when nothing else was on.

  • Great video! I never really watched Star Trek, but this was informative. A bit of random fun facts people may not have known, Gene Roddenberry was given a Space Burial! Seeing as how I was about 2 years old at the time of his death I would never have known, but it's still pretty cool. Apparently there is a plan to launch some more of his ashes along with his wife in 2012. That's damn cool. I want that done when I die!

    Anyway, good video!

  • I liked all the Borg episodes.

  • I don't know if I'll have a chance to make a video, but my favorite episode was the one where a genetically enhanced super soldier escaped from the penal colony of a planet hoping to join the federation. He outmaneuvered the enterprise in a small prison transport, outsmarted Data, beat up Worf, and basically took out anyone who stood in his path. It's my favorite mostly because of how action oriented it is, but it has a very real lesson in PTSD and exploitation of citizens for "state security"

  • i am a new star trek fan, the new movie prob wasn't the greatest star trek movie, but it's the first one i have seen so now i want to know the rest of the story.

    much love and respect.

  • I watched Encounter at Farpoint before I ever know about Bible. That pretty much killed any chance to believe that stuff forever. I am simply unable to think about being with so much power to demand worship and be worth of that worship.

And of course, we are gods ourselves. We just need to evolve a little. Grow up.

There are many episodes I like, I can't make full list.

"Who Watches The Watchers" is definitely one of them.

  • Next one will be "The Measure Of A Man", where Data's rights are questioned, because he was created by human.

From DS9 i can name "Homefront"/"Paradise Lost", which is very actual now ("You're willing to destroy paradise in order to save it?").

In VOY it's definitely "Blink of an Eye". That idea to be able to witness rise of whole civilization is just so interesting.

When I read about DARPA's interests in robotics i always think of "A Taste of Armageddon" from TOS.

  • It's just too many of them. Too many quotes, too many ideas.

Star Trek is not perfect, never was, never will be. There are many flaws, many silly mistakes, many simplifications and inconsistencies, but there are also many gems to be mined, shaped and consumed in our minds.

    Much to learn.

    Much to hope.

    Much to dream.

  • I couldnt stand watching star trek, I actually find the whole thing very confusing.

  • If I'm not mistaken, Next Generation was what Rodenbary wonted the original Star Trek to be. Back in the 60's he got away with a lot of stuff but he was also forced to do a lot of stuff because of executive meddling back in the day. Apparently he had more freedom when he started NG.

Anyway, grate show. Did you ever notice how the opening credit sequence mimics the original?

  • yes it was a excelent show and you talk about a lot of interesting stuff great vid Q was excelent yes he was such a dushbag lol

  • I'm more of a TOS Star Trek fan. I think the cast synergy worked really well and the other series I found were too boring overall. Too bad Spock isnt a very good example of a secular humanist, hes still the shit though.

  • The only Star Treks I could stand to watch were the ones with Patrick Stewart, Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The rest - meh...

  • I don't know why Star Trek didn't get hold of me, Stargate somehow did, but I have noticed a trend of atheists watching Star Trek/Stargate...I don't know how to put it into words :\

  • I always enjoyed all the series though Voyager took a bit longer to get established and I think I lost my way on Enterprise.

Just one niggle I have in the bad science department though is the biology is completely screwed up - human alien cross is much less likely than a toadstool human cross.

    Other than that

I really like the Next Generation crew the most.

  • i wish i could take the time to memorize the startrek monlouge

  • The green just goes along with the whole free iran movement :D

  • I am not sure, but most likely, the same reason was used against TNG with CBS, of course in Insurrection, Data does mention transgendered species in his speech at Riker and Troi's wedding.

  • Before BionicDance gets a chance to comment on this video, I'll say it now for all to hear: Star Trek pwns Star Wars, for this among other reasons.

  • Star Wars just does't have that warming feeling and stuff as Star Trek does.

  • As we all know, Gene Roddenberry was a humanist/agnostic and was up front with his stance and wanted the Next Gen to be non-religious and non-mystical just like the original series. I watched the original series on TV as they were put out. The other great series was 'Lost in Space'. I give Star Trek a big nod for helping me pursue science as my life and job.

Hail MF Science, as Spike would say.

  • Personally Voyager and DS9 are tied for my favourite show, but TNG has a lot of episodes that fall into my list of all time favourite moments from all the shows.

  • Hope you don't mind my 2 video responses.

  • @CJCA915

    Not at all!

  • Much as I'm a Star Trek fan in general, DS9 (the series furthest by far from the original premise) remains my favourite. It's probably because of the overarching storyline rather than any philosophical points, though I did appreciate the smatterings of grey morality.

It's also the most forgiving of religion and the like. Bajor usually provided that sort of commentary, including an early episode which basically mirrored the creation vs. evolution debate.

  • Oh, also there was an episode dealing with homosexuality later, albeit in a veiled way. Dax's (male) former host and the (female) former host of some other Trill had been together a century or so before, but their current hosts were both female. The lesbianism wasn't the issue to the Trill though; the issue was that reawakening former host's relationships was condemned. Subtle.

So DS9 still had its neat points, but the plot's really its selling point for me.

  • I thought the same thing about Q hehe. Loved to hate him for the most part.

I've always loved Star Trek... each and every series and movie :)

  • I might recreate the TNG intro as my next animation project.

  • Star Trek TNG was the best!

Oh and you need a haircut! :)

  • Yea, Gene wanted to have gays and lesbians in TNG, but they threatened not to take the series on CBS or w/e, if he did.

  • @CJCA915 Well there IS progress... The revamped Doctor Who and its spinoff Torchwood are full of homosexuals/bisexuals... Perhaps statistically too many.

  • Well, true, but Gene coulda had gays and lesbians in TNG, I am not a Doctor Who fan.

  • On a side note, I'm a transhumanist :P

  • You dress up like a human? O_o

  • the reason atheists love startrek is cos theyre faggets! PRAYZE GAWD!!

  • Star Trek FTW!

  • My favorite was Voyager :P

  • Same here....fav 2 part episodes being Scorpion, Future's End, Endgame and The Year of Hell. =D

I LOVE Threshold...okay, I'm joking about that episode...it was probably the worst of the entire series. ^.^

  • Phail.

Although at least it's not DS9.

  • I've been watching the entire star trek shows collection...

I just finished watching TNG for, I think, the third time in my life... and that's the entire series...

Honestly, I hope we can embrace the ideals of star trek
