I have been a long-term admirer of Sissel's art, but honestly, this is not her best performance. She seemed to have some trouble with her voice on this special night, it doesn't sound as brilliant and powerful as for instance on the 2001 concert in Drammen theatre. That performance was absolutely flawless. And still here Sissel easily outsings almost every other singer.

I agree that we all need to get a life. Sissel is by far the best singer I have ever heard. She is truly a good person and nothing is put on. Sissel is the genuine thing unlike other singers. I met a friend of Sissel's when I was in Norway and he said that of all the entainers that he knows Sissel is an angel. All I can say is If you don't like Sissel don't listen to her.

@phcphcphc, there are indeed a couple of things that Karen got but Sissel doesn't when it comes to singing: Flaws and errors. Besides, if your brain is hooked into pop genre you're not able to appreciate Sissel doing this song. You would need a musical brain.

What is just as beautiful as Sissel and her voice is all these positve comments. I hate it when ever I go to place a comment on youtube and so often find rude words and insults for no good reason. Sissel was married for 11 years, I believe, to comedian Eddie Skoller but they divorced six years ago. If she is currently married, it's a well-kept secret as her marriage and divorce was of considerable public interest given her international reputation. There is simply no mention anywhere that she is currently married and simply refers to her family as "My family."

I don't know the lady but it saddens me that one who brings so much light and love to others had to live through divorce.

All these versions of Solitaire are different, though none matches the feeling and tone of Karen's.

Even wikipedia only cites the Carpenter's version.

Also, Karen's passing creates in her version a truly bittersweet dimension no other artist can provide.

@GoodTimeTraveler When Sissel sang this with Neal Sedaka (WHO WROTE THIS SONG) playing piano, he seemed very , VERY PLEASED. That was in 1991 and her voice is even more beautiful now. Karen's version was very good. Sissel's is different and AT LEAST as good.

@ktbelle2000 Actually, she sings almost equally well in all the languages she's sung in (maybe 10). But your points is well taken. Many of the songs she sings in Norwegian or one of the other Scand. languages are so beautiful I can't listen to them without tearing up.

THis song is pleasant, but her voice is too breathy and wispy...she has a nice voice. Different range from Karen Carpenter's version.

Karen sang very low in her contralto range and then soared up several octaves...during this very RANGE-y song. Karen's version will usually be listed as the definative version...it was a Top 20 hit for them back in 1975 USA...
