@Bobanjudee you have a point but not a valid point , next youl want him wearing a hard hat and heavy steel toe cap boots, you see its not like in the mines in Australia where you have someone hold your hand all day and most the work is done by machine ,more chiefs than indians, no this is the real world, this is where the majority of people are self employed unlike people like yourself that couldnt function unless you were told what to do and when by a boss, a good plasterer doesnt stand uder it
@outbackproductions....do you know what Calcium sulfate hemihydrate or gympsum hemihydrate aka. Plaster of paris will do to the surface of the eye if not flushed thoroughly for thirty minutes?... Naahh, you probably don't.
@Bobanjudee after 30 years i think i have an idea but, you are a typical asian who doesnt listen to a word spoken
look at the reply you got last time a good plasterer doesnt stand under it...
thats the difference, the education and training in trade skills is a lot higher in the uk than the asian country you left when you went to australia with your hands out,
the training you receive from the first day onwards teaches you to never stand under it
@Bobanjudee so you must be 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off in the mines that gives you plenty of time looking things up on the internet, makes me laugh though someone whos never held a trowel in his hands trying to give advice on another persons trade, stay in the mines where you have your hands held all day, i just see your uploads and you dont have the strength to hold a camera for more than a couple of minutes
@outbackproductions I'm Australian born and bred but married to an asian nurse, not a coal miner as such but a self employed OH&S safety consultant engaged solely in mine surface construction and infrastructure. I've held a trowel and done some cement rendering but will never be as good as you blokes and yeah, I'm no Stephen Speilburg.... but I'm bloody good at sending men home to their families after a days work, in the same condition they arrived. Do your self a favour and wear PPE.
@Bobanjudee it all starts to make sense now, health and safety consultant, lets face it Aussies would need 3 of you to every worker, they have to do a days course to make a coffee in a cafe, called a barista, you have to wear helmets on cycles by law, ha, thats not a bad thing you say, but then they all drive 4x4s with fishing rod holders sticking out the bonnets, make me laugh, i travelled the world and have never come across such poor workmanship or such bad quality buildings as australia
@Bobanjudee Australians wouldnt know a plasterer if he jumped out a cupboard and bit them on the nose, all they have is Dry Lining and they call that plastering, well dry lining or australian plastering is not only crap substandard building quality, but its not even a proper trade, its a weeks course at lafarge or british gypsum, although it would be a 3 year course at a tafe, tossers
Ok, i want to learn to plaster. I'm ready to take the plunge and do the C&G 6 week course. Would i be able to do it i am able to do basic skimming. And is the level 1 course enough to go self employed. Thanks.
@mrsparky786 Hi yes the level 1 is a good introduction course but i would say it would be best to progress onto your NVQ 2 after completion, al people are different and some people take to certain skills like ducks to water and some people dont, but if your forward thinking positive in attitude and are physically capable then theres no reason why not
nowadays yes, but just a few years back, if its skimming on board then 50 metres in the morning one hit, then 50 in the afternoon, maybe thats float and set, float 50 in the morning and skim 50 in the afternoon
i bought all 6 vids came on tuesday watched them 6 times already. ive been in collage 4 months finish in june but iam still going to book a course whith these guys. this is what i will strive to become a true pro like chris. ps ive been around construction for 25 yrs and you now when you sea class.
Marble plaster (venetian) it has a multitude of names, but the marble plaster shown is traditional lime based with fine marble powder making up more than 50% of the mix
I can't wait till Tuesday. I am back off half term on my plastering course. 6 weeks???? I am doing a minimum 2 years. Can't wait to see my mates, and it is City and Guilds.
Hi! I'm leaving the forces in February time and I'm hoping to et into plastering. I've looked at your website and I'm looking at doing the 6 week City & Guilds course.
Once I have done the C&G course would I be ready to set up self employed doing domestic plastering?
hey hows it going im a plasterer in ireland and i was wondering how is the building trade holding up over there cause in ireland there is nothing being built here
hiya, yes there are suppliers in spain, last i heard there was a supplier in Gibralta, there are also knauf plasters in spain, the other thing is because the spanish plasters are extra fast set, you can slow them down with the addition of lime putty
I think i'd like to learn plastering. Im 26 and have never had any idea of what to do for a career. Feel like time is running out. How long do these courses last? How much do they cost? Are you qualified to be a plsterer after completion of the course??
i would suggest a short course to begin with to make sure that this is definitely what you would like to do and its definitely for you. then if you like it and im sure you will then id suggest either the city and guilds course or the nvq course, both are very similar in content, then when youve finished these you will be qualified but you will still need to keep learning and gaining experience by working alongside other people
i am a plasterer, its an enjoyable trade but dont be fooled into thinking a one week coarse will teach you enough to be able to go out and do your own plastering,it takes months of day in and day out untill you become any good, alot of coarses are a money making con.
yes it is an enjoyable trade and it does take more than a week, thats why Goldtrowel is a City & Guilds training centre with CITB accreditted instructors, so after your weeks introduction course if youd like to take it further you can, Goldtrowel Specialise in plastering, solid plastering, fibrous plastering, venetian plastering, external finishes that other plasterers havent heard of
alrite m8? Im a scaffolder by trade and to be fair ive had enough of it, im sick of the lay offs and lack of work in the winter so ive decided to become a plaster, i understand it take a long time to become as good as u but what course hould i take to be able to get on site and actually earn living doing it? cause like u said b4 alot are mony making cons.
city and guilds always carries weight but i beleive the nvq course is just as good if not better for less money, but a lot of the building industry has a kipper season usually over the christmas period where you could have a week or two with no work
yeah i know what ya saying but a week or 2 without work sounds great to me compared with the 5-6 months i lose every year due to lay offs in my game. Thanx for the advice because alot of what i was reading was misleading, there is a training scheme saying u can be qualified in 2 weeks, which is aload of bollox i know and i need summut that will carry weight as u put it, so i can get on site. Once again, thanx for the advice m8!
I'm going to build a house next year. Which course will enable me to do the plasterwork myself ? I've no experience, but I'm pretty patient, methodical, and confident.
id say start with the NVQ course and see how you get on before committing to further expense as many people find thats enough to get you boarding beading & floating and setting to a pretty good standard, obviously speed will come with time but quality and cleanliness first
thats what my dad used to tell me. when you limies used to eat spam like it was going out of style... i'll be honest in america plaster is a dying trade... if i lived in the uk i'd atend a class.. the guy (bald one) with the fresco..fucking amazing...excellent work
Q. what do you seal your venetian plasters with? after burnishing i leave mine for 24-48 hours then use bee's wax applied by hand. PS i like the marble effect in your video, is that just two diffent colours>? i reckon i might have to do another course to pick up a few more techniques. have you got a course in the south west?
@outbackproductions Hi is this still £20 a night for 2 nights. Only i wanna do ur City & Guilds course. Would you be able to arrange a good deal for me for accommodation. As £2000 for course and then accommodation adds up a bit. thanks.
we show covering the joints when using hessian jute scrim apart from that theres no need to cover the joints in plaster when using fibre tape unless the wrong boards were used ie tapered
thanks rackaline, yes hes 3 coating trowel float trowel over heavy artex, some people float with bonding over heavy artex but cant skim then till the afternoon
if he had walls to hit as well then it would be better to either board or float with bonding but if its just a ceiling reskim then the old fashioned method of cross hatch trowel float trowel saves half a day and comes out perfect every time
Done the course,. advanced course, started out for myself 2 years ago, now blow spreaders out the water that have been doing it for 10 to 15 years, i do between 80 to 100 metres of excellent quality plastering if i mix etc myself or double if i have a 2 man team. The course is that good, im booked for 6 weeks in advance, by kitchen companys, buliders and more importantly private work.....all this is due to being teached properely
hi i am about to do the 5 day certified course will i be able to do jobs good and what kind of money will i make i am in a dead end job so this is it for me it has to work what do yoiu think
well i am on holliday untill next monday but as soon as i get back i am go ing to giv them a ring about the course could you tell me how much all the tools would cost to set up i allready have a van so i just need tools but how much is it about
You old timers dont half do some fannying around, probly why ur all fat fooks. Best bit of vid is the rendered wall effects, quality workmanship. P.S SPEED UP GUYS!!!
jimmy plastering can be really exciting if you can get away from just the normal everyday work
to think about specialising in marble plastering and gain £40m2 with some great finishes or ornate work creating something from nothing, stick at it and go to the top, your age will not matter when you expand your horizons, some guys have been plastering for 20 years and still only skim or re skim (no offence to those guys) but dont get stuck in a rut
