Not entirely a chemical reaction, the soda has carbon bubbles in it and when you put the mento's in it it starts to bubble because it is a hard textured candy, thus the carbons rush to the mento all at once causing it to explode

it is not a chemical reaction lol this is a physical interaction, the roughness and the pores on the sugar crystals of the mentos cause sites of bubble nucleation, causing bubbles to form quickly, which is a thermodynamically unfavorable event. This catalyzes the release of the stored CO2 in the coke as the gas seen and boom it shoots into the air...and If you say the equlibrium held between HOCOOH and CO2 + H20 death will be had, Think before you argue with a trained chemist about chemistry =D

Im saying that I do not believe their disprovement of the theory? care to scientifically explain whats going on then , because if it was a chemical reaction then the by-products could be detected by running a sample through HPLC/ GC-MS before and after the fact....of the "reaction" explain
