  • great voice

  • Now he is so long holidays in Japan.... becouse in Japanese society he became main gear and did non-stop running for 1 year, he became an ash...

  • Damn aint that something. This dude is like....iono wtf? It always trips me out to see someone who I would assume is a gangsta in America speak any different language.

  • 4:41 SAKURAAAAAAAAAA LOL I DIED WHEN SHE DID THAT

  • Im writing a 2 page paper essay on jerome for my music class lol.

  • He is as Japanese as he is black.

  • I am pleased that this young man has been such a positive role model for African Americans. But I am not so much amazed, as I am Jealous!!!. Can you imagine the number of Japanese girls that comes flying into this guys face every day? Wanting him so bad they are crying? I can't imagine that much ass!! I'm Kokujin American living in Arizona. I LOVE Asian women, especially Japanese girls, but I can't find ONE were I live!!!

  • hes cute!! and i love his voice too :)

  • Looks like Japanese Will Smith.

  • Knowing nothing of enka, his music is great!

  • Um this major uprising of being amazed that his japanese is perfect, don't be his grandmother was japanese so he's actually 1/4 japanese and she taught him the language. It's really not that amazing. But it definitely is cool

  • my favourite enka singers <3

  • he's actually mixed. his grandmother was japanese. so hes not just black

  • damn, this guys pro!!

  • does he have an album in the US?

  • AWWWW...kawaii ne....learning from a young age...awesome.....Kanpai Jero san soshite Kanpai Aiko san.

  • 何かヒップホップ系の格好させられてるのがなぁ・・・

    まあ好青年だね

  • he sounds like gackt but with a deeper voice xD . when gackt gets serious, and he puts on the shogun face. xD just kiding.

  • @megamanthehitmam That's what I was saying, he sounds like Gackt!

  • My Hero

  • Singing Enka, particularly Enka is very difficult too.His voice is gorgeous! His voice is beautiful even without the background band playing.Lots of singers need fancy elaborate costumes and loud music, but JERO's voice is genuinely beautiful, and big presence and voice!

  • For those wondering why her voice is high, its a singing technique. If you keep your talking pitch high, its easier to maintain your high range when your vocal chords are used to the stress of the higher range. Even with natural high range, its easier to lose your higher register than your lower one. SO just some tips.

  • @ChiimuZaRen

I've actually never heard of that theory... interesting...

  • 宇崎竜童ザンの海雪新人賞以来、一昨年の秋の天皇賞ウオッカ鼻差写真判定ダイワスカーレット勝ち以来、新曲を聴いて居無いなそういえば、そうでアマリリス。ジェロ

  • rest in peace to granny Takiko for encouraging him to keep hold of his roots :)

  • he looks g

  • enka is such old school music that young people dont really want much to do with it. so its amazing that a young man from america would take interest in it. pretty cool.

  • LOL I'm sorry--I just keep hearing anime, man! LOL But seriously, I like enka and LOVE Japanese culture (and women)!

  • i hate her talking voice. it's annoying :/

    she sings well though

i know they have to be in rainjackets at 45 sec but it looks like KKK cheering for Jero...which would be odd XD

  • @explodingmoons Your view about clothing is interesting. The whitish outer wear is a nitted cardigan jacket with hood that is pretty popular among young women in Japan. I see the same thing here in America, too. Ms. Moriyama's girlish tone of voice is her regular voice. Some Japanese women talk with that tone, and they may receive different reactions from listners.

  • He must have really loved his grandma.

  • very talented guy, wish him all the success

  • I think one reason hes really liked is cause he just didnt pick up japanes for a singing career. He lived life growing up with lot of influence from his grandmother and her culture which they share.

That in no way takes away from his beautiful voice and good looks :P

Just adds alittle more to the mix

  • @ssjwes Yeah, I think his dedication to his grandmother and japanese heritage helped him win over the enka fanbase. Since many of them are grandmas themselves. He's well educated and well mannered. I hope he has a long and successful career as an Enka singer.

  • Wow! I bet he gets alot of Japanese booty! Do ya thang brotha!!! lol

  • I HAVE TO LEARN JAPANESE NOW

  • why do adult japanese women have such baby voices? it's annoying.

  • @heomak i find it pretty sweet

  • @heomak Ms. Moriyama's girlish tone of voice is her regular voice. Some Japanese women talk with that tone, and they may receive different reactions from listners.

I do not why they talk like that, but it is not a fake. It may be difficult for them to change the voice now.

    utakikoeru 3 minutes ago

  • He isn't half japanese, he is only a quarter and he learned japanese in school.

  • I remember my gal telling me about him, I thought she was saying, "Jello" b/c she has a heavy accent lol.

  • それは本当に兄の男よ!..我々は、すべての色かもしれませんが、愛は普遍的である... 5月は、あなたの旅のステレオタイプや人種差別を終わらせることを祝福するよ!

  • His voice is amazing!!!

  • guy's got a sexy voice! their voices really compliment each other. -- here is another black person who has used dramas, anime and all the free learning tools on the net effectively--albeit my Jap is somewhat vulgar :p

  • @LIBqueen except, he didn't learn japanese through the internet. He is partially japanese himself. Everything he learned, he learned from his grandmother, who was japanese.

  • from the side he looks like a younger hyde from l'arc

  • That girl's voice is annnnnnnnnnnnnoying! As for Jero, I'm rooting for him all the way! Never underestimate kokujin! I too am studying Japanese and I hope to be recognized like Jero!

  • can someone roughly translate what they said please? i love the japanese language :)

  • Jero is amazing, but do any of the older people on YouTube remember I George, the Black Singer who sang in the 50s & 60?!

  • @CulturePeaceForever I do. I was a little when Ai George (?)

sang in radio programs. He had dark skin. He was a good singer and he had many fans.

  • I wish I was in Jero's place!!!! I love Japanese women!!!!

  • Jero is truly one of a kind.

  • 歌はもちろん日本語がうまい

  • Resurrection of Enka

  • thats so sweet that he started to sing enka, because of his grandmother(:

  • Thank you so much for this! How did you record it?

  • I love this video! They both have excellent voices!

  • Great video! I just wish if the actual interview can be translated?

  • his voice is awesome!! ^^ hers too!! enka is just so great <33

  • kono hito wa o saiko desu

  • 最高ですか本当に?

  • @skabossJ

    What I wrote wasn't derogatory.

What could be more out of place than a Japanese reply to a Japanese video? Oh, I know... you getting pissed off at me because you're illiterate.

  • By the way... that's some fucking amazing skateboarding in that video you've got featured on your channel.

  • is there a subtitled version of this online?

  • i would love to understand what they are saying, please somebody translate

  • yeaqh, black singer is taking over Japan

  • this dude sounds straight japanese that is amazing

  • what's amazing? that hes black and speaks japanese? so you think black people dont know other languages or arent capable of fluently speaking them? dont make me laugh

  • hahahahahahaa i cant breathe

  • I don't think that's the point...

  • Tomy understanding, people are excited about him because he is helping to revive the dying Enka genre. :) So that is an awesome thing. :)

    God Bless ~Amy

  • youtube's comment system is somewhat messed up but my comment was either to someone farther down the page or perhaps the comment that was removed by author. i forget. they reply; my response

  • About 49,000 US military personnel reside in the main land of Japan. Most of them rarely mingle with the Japanese, nor speak Japanese.

From elementary school through college, Japanese learn English, but most of them rarely achieve fluency in speaking the language. (writing and reading is a different matter)

It has nothing to do with skin colour. Don't make me laugh.

  • my reply was to erndola's comment farther down the page. repetitionrepetitionrepetition . yes there are what ifs, but in all likelyhood

dont make me hurr hurr hurr

  • @aeoko2 he is the first enka singer

  • @m7i7z7u7k7i7 I thought that he was just the first African-American Enka Singer in Japan

  • @aeoko2 Well, he's black and is a Japanese enka singer which is shocking and impressive.

  • @aeoko2 he's part japanese though so i'dexpect him to know a little anyway, but yeah he's great

  • @explodingmoons

if you read a few pages back you'd see that my comment was in reply to user 'erndola' who said that he sounds japanese and 'that's amazing!'

    which shouldnt be too amazing.

    readreadreadread.

  • @aeoko2 yeah. good idea. im totally gonna go back and read through all of these comments.

    thanks a lot......

  • @explodingmoons yeah maybe you should so you can have an idea of what you're speaking about before you say it.

    your welcome.......

  • @aeoko2 Jero is of African-American and Japanese descent, and his Japanese grandmother taught him Japanese as a child. It's not just his interest--it's his culture.

  • @SuperGamer87

yes. i'm quite aware. my comment was originally directed to a person who said they were surprised he was able to speak japanese

  • @aeoko2 or rather, was amazed. it was user 'erndola'

  • @aeoko2 He's half half

  • @aeoko2 No. What's amazing is that he's black and singing enka. How many black guys sing enka music? None other than him.

  • @HachiZenki like ive said multiple times in this videos comment section, my reply was to someone who said it was amazing that he spoke japanese so well. get it straaaaiiightttt

  • @HachiZenki It is not very common. It is unusual. And it is so great! Music can bridge people of other race and language. He has walked on the bridge and reached Japanese Enka songs. He is amazing!

  • @aeoko2 Lol, it's the stupid media. Got the whole world thinking we're only in America or Africa rapping. There were black kids on my street growing up who spoke fluent spanish. I don't remember where they were from. Not america, that's for sure. Also the blacks from french speaking region. Back in the day a black person with a british accent used to shock the hell out of people for some reason. Black people know all sorts of languages.

  • @aeoko2 Oh don't be so stuck up. Even if this was written 1 year ago. PUHLEASE. Let someone be fucking amazed that a black guy dressed up in casual street wear is a famous japanese enka singer. It's a cultural rainbow!

  • @selty He doesn't dress well but he is amazing singer and person.

  • @aeoko2 Its not the fact that he is black and speacks Japanese; the amazing thing is that he has made enka music such a hit when he released his first single. That type of music was first introduced in the 1940's, so that's pretty cool of him to do.

  • @aeoko2 lol its that he is classically trained in this genre which most people outside of japan wouldn't have an interest in or even know about.

  • his japanese is nearly perfect!!

  • haiyah6 ,

Where do you think anime voices come from? ...Real people..lol

  • He reminds me of Pumashock!

Except he is actually of Asian descent and can speak the language

  • I have no idea what any of them were saying. But it was cool as hell! Very enjoyable.

  • wow those girl interviewing sound like anime character

  • lol

  • Well, you see, anime characters speak Japanese and....Japanese people also speak Japanese ^_^

  • oh really my gosh? but when did japanese ppl start sounding like anime characters? i thought they were called characters for a reason? i didnt think they mimicked human.. most voice actors make up the voice that they are speaking... who would guess that real ppl wanted to sound like that..^_^

  • Don't worry I know what you're getting at. When I was young I thought that going "EHHHH!" was something only anime characters did, until my first Japanese teacher did the same thing =)

  • You learn informal when you learn from anime though.

  • @kjburger12

Who wants to know how to say "I am going to kick your ass." in 20 different ways?

    Anime is very informal. :)

  • I watched too much anime and started picking up on some words so I decided lets learn this corccetly! Did I spell that right? lol.

  • @kjburger12

    Lol...

  • That is girl speak, and it is fairly normal, and they can turn it on and off. Listen to Hirano Aya sometime, sometimes she is very moe, and sometimes she talks normally. But most younger women and girls tend to talk like this, and some Kanno Yoko never seem to stop or just naturally have a voice like this.

  • Hell yeah, Aya can turn her "girl speak" on and off like a light switch. I think they just do it to satisfy the "cute and feminine" perceptions of woman. But IMO, they already sound feminine enough, they don't always have to go SUPER KAWAIII!!!

  • Isn't he like part japanese?

    or something like that?

  • Yes.

  • His grandmother was Japanese. She married a Black American GI shortly after WWII

  • His Grandmother was Japanese - married his Grandfather who was a US Service Man during WWII. She adored him and taught him that style of music as well as as Japanese.

  • yep, his grandmother is japanese

    check the first few minutes

  • I don't pay attention much XP

  • Jero-san. Thank you very much for sharing your beautiful voice with such amazing songs! I'm trying to learn Japanese so the combination is an ideal way to help me learn it. I hope that you will have continued success on all of your future works. I hope that you will have a long career of bringing happiness to both East & West. Thank you from your fan in Canada.

P.S. Does anyone know if there is an English language fan club for Jero-san?

P.P.S. I so wish I was the girl sitting next to him.

  • haha you fiend!

i totally agree with you though, it'd be real cool to meet him. and if that's how i'd sound speaking fluently...that ain't to bad at all :D

  • 嫁さんが勤める介護の現場でジェロが歌ってるのを見たお婆チャンがなぜかパニックを起こしたそうだ。

    あり得ない映像なんだろう。

  • waider さん、日本じゃなく日本語ですよね。。

  • jero and aiko should sing some duets.

  • Ohhht this is so good to see! I'm so glad Jiro-san is able to represent african-americans, especially ones that want to move to nihon! ily Jirooooo!!!!^^

  • Speak english or japanese, not that stupid mixed language.

  • ummm I said 1 Japanese word, and if you don't know what 'nihon' means then maybe you shouldnt be the one criticizing ME!

  • lol okayyy you said not to speak mixed language and i only said one word in japanese which doesnt classify as "mixed language". Plus why is it such a big deal? No ones challenging whether you understand japanese or not, it's great that you do, but that fact there's an arguement over this is pointless and immature. I'm done with this.

  • go jero!

enka has always been cool! you are cool if you're good at enka ^^ for example if you're in karaoke everyone could sing pop, rock songs, but once you break out the enka, you WILL be the highlight of that night ;) (or the entire michael jackson thriller dance -.- )

  • She has a child's talking voice.

  • wow they sound great together!

  • jero and aiko-san rules

  • wow. she has a really mature sounding singing voice.

  • aw, that is so cute!

    kawaii! jero!

  • goshhh! he sound so SEXIE! when he speak...I can listen to him as a lullaby song...he sound so soft and sexie for a black guy...very HOTTTTIE!

  • what you mean "for a black Guy" black dudes are known to have sexy voices. Berry white ring a bell.

  • ''He sounds so soft and sexy for a black guys?'' Black people are the sexiest people on the planet. I would much rather be with a black girl than a Japanese girl.

  • Whats with everyones obsession with the "N word" in Japanese?

Its getting increasingly annoying that any video that has a black person is going to have several people bringing up race...

  • Ditto. It is the most annoying thing on youtube. Jero san omoshiroi desu yo. Let that be it.

  • wow he acts really japanese in his mannerisms. surprising. i love him!

  • Jero is one of those individual whos making the world see that we are all the same, no matter where you come from or who you think you are we are all part of the same planet.X)

  • i totally agree! i think we need more people like him in the world

  • jero for afro-american ambassador

  • oh yeah jero's gettin laid tonight

  • oooh, thanks for clarifying that for me!! ^^

  • WooOOo, jero! i love him!

  • "kokujin" directly translated means black person, "hakujin" is white person nihonjin is japanese person.

  • I'm really impressed :3 I don't think it should matter who you are or where you come from if you want to do something you love...If you do it well and people like it, that's all that should matter... You know, plenty of people sing opera (that's in ITALIAN FYI -lol), when they weren't born there or have italian background , but they have beautiful talent and that's what matters..

I've haven't really listened to much enka, but he's made me interested in it, I like his style XD Keep it up JERO! <3

  • I heard one of them say, "Cocojin" someone told me this was like a japanese term for "nigger" but they wouldn't really say something like that on television, would they? I'm guessing a more accurate description of the word would be someone with a darker skin tone....? I really don't know :( But I do know this guy is a great singer, and a good example that you don't have to be japanese to be a great singer of Japanese music. He has japanese in him anway, so it really doesn't matter i guess (^o^)

  • gaikokujin just means foreigner...and sounds better than gaijin, which means outsider, I don't think it has to do with his colour

  • It doesn't have anything to do with his color. It's a word for outsider, which could mean anyone of any race. And Gaijin is supposed to be more of an insult while gaikokujin is more polite.

  • Tashika ni!:)

  • kooooooooooonichiwa...

  • its kool but i dont think the older generation would like a black enka singer but true say its the west that dnt realy like blk peopel not the east however the east may have also picked up this trait from gobalization

  • His voice is so sexy!

He is Japanese / African American

  • his voice is sexy

  • I don't understand shit :))))))))) they seem funny

  • respectful too. impressive.

  • jero is amazing !!!!!!

  • he is so cool !!!

  • Even Jero's speaking voice is cool! It's very nice and calming..

  • nice

  • Actually I just read an article on him where he said it was his management teams idea to keep the hip-hop look. He said he thought ppl wld think he was attempting to parody enka but the response to the combination of hip-hop & enka stylings was very favorable. It sounds like japanese r&b ballads to me; very nice Jero.

  • He seems like an interesting guy, but people will and will continue to stereotype him with the way he dresses. Does he really need to have the whole "hip-hop" image? Oh well, if that's what he wants. He's still a good singer.

  • it's not the image. he said one time that that's the way he dresses anyway.

  • konata meets jero

  • he is so awesome
