I spent all night last night seeing how far I could get playing along with this workout. It's a lot harder than I thought and covers an incredible amount of useful techniques. Forget the 'cheesy' aspect and just go with the lessons. You won't regret it. It's a masterclass, trust. Frank is the MAN!
This DVD is amazing. This is the hardest and best Guitar work out I have ever seen. I have just learnt section one and that was very difficult. I can see why he is the master the man is truly amazing.
aaaaargh now everytime I see him I think of that slash character from steven kings tv mini series called, the stand. the guy who played satan. ahhhhhhhh.....I keeo thinking he is gonna transform and bust horns out from his head. ahhhh.......
could they not find better guys for the back?! they can;t even play the exercises their technique is so tense and sloppy how frank oked them is beyond me.
Thanks for uploading this .I had a friend send it to me[ Highly recomended ]The guy is fantastic on lead and he said this helped him like no other ! THANK YOU !
Can anyone tell if Frank is resting his wrist on the body of the guitar or the bridge. To me it looks like he's holding it up in the air, slightly above the guitar. when playing, I usually like resting my wrist on or around the bridge. Is this bad for me too do??
@Jawbreaker1000 at times yes and other times no. There are some techniques that need to be done while resting your wrist agains the bridge. You might find it helpful to rest the arm just below the elbow on the top of the guitar but for some things you play you would need freer arm movement.
@Jawbreaker1000 (more) Two things; First find a guy who you admire and let him show you what he does. Second, practice precision and try some different things while trying to perfect what you are doing. Find ways that are the most comfortable for YOU. Every player is different and you have to develop your own personal opinion on what works. Talk to better players and take what works for you and leave what doesn't.
(even more) When I first heard about Franks sweep picking technique I was not into it. I felt that for most runs learning to master alternate picking was going to give me the most benefit. However as the years have gone by I have found that the efficiency of keeping the pick moving in one direction couldn't be beat by any other method. That being said I still think it's important to be able to reverse pick direction while moving in the opposite direction.
@Jawbreaker1000 (more continued) Check out the Levitt books from Berklee press. There are some good picking exercises for string skips. Try playing your scales with each note doubled e.g. Pick down up, down up, down up and go up the whole neck in each key then reverse using up down, up down. 2nd e.g. Cmaj scale:
C (down) C (up), D (down) D (up), E (down) E (Up). After you do two strokes per note, try four strokes per note but this time emphasize a different stroke. (Accent 1) on each note.
(even more continued) When you are trying to figure out what works you really have to commit to it until you feel you have mastered it and really given a technique a chance. As a music teacher used to tell me: Perfect Practice makes Perfect. If you can't play perfectly, slow down the tempo until you can. Also once you have perfected something move on. Take the things you have mastered and use those for warmups and once warmed up start working on things that you can't play or are difficult.
@randommoosebrains ya...its still frank...but not only without 90's leather pants..but the way he playing also change...from rock to jazz....but its still cool..but i still like the young frank...
@MrJazzbox I think I heard of him. gambale himself used to teach at L.A.M.A but he said in a recent guitar player interview that they kept complaining that his carriculum was too advanced for the students. he kept deluting it until there wasn't much of any valuable concepts left to teach.
@hfish83 I know that. I was a student at MA2000 in Italy some yaers ago and they uses the same guitar curriculum maybe 10 years ago but they are trimming it until nothing interesting left...and it became uninteresting for me...you know I don't need to learn how to play a G7 chord I need to learn how to improvise over it...anyway LAMA remains the best school in the world!!!
When Frank opens his mouth, it's complete bewilderment, you expect him to be a complete boof.
